I first met Johnny Phillips in Risley November 1981.He was working in reception when I arrived and he was a powerhouse of a lad, pure muscle. When I got sentenced in the summer of 1982 we were both on the yip’s on B wing at Walton.Curtis warren was also on the same landing as us.Curtis & Johnny were total opposites.Johnny was constantly bouncing around the landing, whereas Curtis was a quiet lad who just got on with things.2 of the Noonans from Manchester were also on the same landing,Dominic & Damon. You would never of guessed these 2 & Curtis would turn out to be what they were.It was a different story with Johnny, even at that age,you knew how his life was going to go.

Absolutely. Philips would force people into minding things for him, he'd then go back a few days later wearing balaclavas with his bully mates and tax them after battering them. Then he'd go back to get his things a few days latet an they'd be bullied into his debt because they didn't have his things. Everyone, including the victims, knew that this was a regular earner of his. Typical bully an couldn't take getting beat by a better fighter & man.

That's right. There were a few bent coppers back then. That one over the water, Elmore Davies was CID and mate of Warrior from Gladiators. ED got done for passing in info. Warrior got done for his involvement on Curtis Warren's drug ventures. Another cop, Gregory O'Leary, got done for his passing on info from police computer and ironically had been part of the murder squad investigating Ungi's murder before they put him back into uniform and his later jailing.
Liverpool was a cesspit of corruption and drugs at the time with easy access to smgs and people not bothered about using them in built up areas. The Home Secretary Michael Howard took a keen interest in the city and John Haase was apparently able to hoodwink him into getting a pardon due to info he grassed up over arms.

A fight to see who rules Liverpool Drug Market. An interesting video Ben. Would love to see a video on George Bromley Snr life & his death.
