Hats off to the dude behind the scenes that's working on this thing. The fact that he's looked at numerous handhelds from China and was disappointed because none of them were checking his boxes (which is relatable) and he's just like "F it! You want something done right, you gotta do it yourself", that's impressive.
considering the staggering number of devices on the market, I'd be a bit more impressed if... the developer added a +2 ghz processor, anything less won't do Game Cube or PS2, stacked shoulder buttons and triggers, 2 USB-C ports, 2 Micro SD card slots and HDMI out. Also wouldn't hurt to add a full A, B, C, X, Y, Z face button configuration, that'll make Genesis, Arcade and N64 SOOO much better. I don't understand what makes this device stand out other than being created by one person. I can't believe the developer said, "all the other 100 handhelds out there are crap so I'm gonna create one that has it all" yet it's lacking so much.
I think the retroid pocket 4 will the perfect machine, if they bump the ram up to 6 gig and lifted the gpu a little I think they'd get ps2 and GC cracked
true, but they really need to add analog triggers. If they don’t, all that extra emulating performance will be pointless for some people. I enjoy racing games and well super mario sunshine is my favorite gc game. Without analog triggers I wouldn’t even purchasing it tbh. At that point I’d rather just get a 35xx or mini
The choice for the consumer to switch the design of the D-pad and joystick on the left side doesn't look like much, but not having to settle for just one design is a GREAT move!
Sorry to be honest but this handheld doesn't do it. We're waiting for something that can run PS2 and GameCube and a little Wii and 3DS. The S922X can't even run AetherSX2 because it doesn't have Cortex A75 cores and performance isn't too great, and the 800x600 screen is not competitive with I.e. Retroid and it doesn't scale very well for retro consoles.
I totally agree that the original spec is now somewhat dated and won't meet our expectations, but I believe that the developer might move on from the S922X and use one of the other processors that was shortlisted. If this ever does come out it will be interesting to see how it turns out.
@@ChronikSpartan If he ever sees this I hope for a RK3588S handheld..nobody has made one yet but I think it's powerful enough for most of the stuff I mentioned
Hi dude. I'm a bit late to the party, but this thing keeps getting pushed back when it comes to international orders anyway (I now see that it's set to happen in early January). Anyway, I was wondering, since we now know that the system will come with 3 choices for ram : 4, 6, or 8. So, if only to avoid the RP3 1GB "upgrade" shady cash grab, would it be possible to benchmark all 3 of their ram configurations (4 vs 6 vs 8) sooner than later? As I mentioned elsewhere, it would really help the consumer to avoid spending on an upgrade that might have no effet for their particular usage, or even worst, no effect whatsoever... So far I saw 3 RUclipsrs with test units, but any with various ram configs or only 8gb? Usually companies tend to only send their best configuration (a trend that is anti-consumer). I'm also wondering what brand they will end up using (probably no name...), the exact specs, etc. It would really be appreciated if you could let us know dude. Thanks for your time. OH! and the ability to chose between a D-Pad or Thumstick "dominant device, by choosing their position, is absolutely HUGE! I play mostly with the D-Pad, and it's something that has always annoyed me on devices of this range, especially the RP2+. The little problem is that people who got preview units found the D-Pad to be average (plus D-Pad and rubber membrane buttons in general feel a bit worst in general when the case is metallic, so maybe it didn't help? Still, Having a small metallic device with that level of power (with only the Odin beating it when it comes to Saturn emulation, my main reason to buy this unit) and with a D-Pad where it should be... Take my money :D Still, it would be great to know whether the chipset would bottleneck in the 6GB config, thus making the extra cash for 8GB useless. I don't know much about this device so it's hard to say. But looking at all the (preview units) benchmarks, clock and thermals, I do think that it could safely be overclocked for a 10-15% performance increase. The dev could implement power profiles like in the Odin; plus with it's quite beefy battery, and low power profile would be great for low end emulation. Anyway, if it's the case, more ram would be helpful. Either way, it's still quite pricey eh... Especially for 8gb + metallic :(. With the shitty USD-CAD exchange rate, with all fees, it's going to be the equivalent of a $500 investment!

Yeah it's definitely the pocketability factor. But the issue comes in the fact that they also aren't analogue, which has a huge effect on game streaming!
I was skeptical about the KT Pocket KT R1 at first, but after trying it out, I have to say the Helio G99 SoC's performance has literally exceeded my expectations! The build quality is solid and the buttons and controls feel really nice to use. Plus, the battery life is decent for a handheld device.
