Goku’s base is not too much different from the start of the tournament. Zenkais haven’t existed for our guys since Namek, and the small imporvement Goku has done during the tournament is purely from all the fighting. Still, it’s very marginal; we see in this episode how Vegeta says Jiren used more power against Goku in the first encounter, meaning they ”fared” better against him in this episode because he was holding back more than he was back then against Goku
@grydon6422 id say the zenkais ended more around cell saga. They became obsolete against buu. But whispers did say earlier in super that the zenkai is reaching its limits for goku and vegeta due to their age and current strengths. Gohan though could probably still benefit from it since he still so much younger.
So for some production information on the series and why this episode looked a bit different, 122 was supervised by Hirotaka Nii and Koji Nashizawa in the first half with Yuya Takahashi supervising the second half (after the eyecatch). He was even able to provide some of his own key animation. Takahashi would first appear in episode 13 during some of the Beerus/Goku fight, but fans wouldn't really notice him until his work on 110 where he animated a rotation scene with UI Goku and Jiren. He would then go on to supervise some of episode 114 alongside Yuichi Karasawa while providing some of his own key animation there as well with Kale powering up in the beginning. Takahashi was a kid while the original series was airing, and so his art style calls back a some of classic Z, particularly Yamamuro's style from the Buu arc.
So glad Alex finally sees the difference in the animation! The only thing that felt weak in the episode was the Final Flash compared to Vegeta's against Cell. Did also anybody noticed that they had Goku in his SSJ2 state as blue? 5:22
10:35 that's the same look cell gave vegeta from his attack, "what's this" 😂. Even though both times it didn't work what's crazy about this attack is the sheer destructive power it has both cell and Jiren recognized that even though vegeta's weaker this attack could still do damage like tien's tri-beam because it uses that much energy to launch, even when he used it against Magetta (metal man) he was only super saiyan and was struggling to breath and it still broke through his lava attack.......the final flash easily one of the best moves in dragon ball
