I've been birding hardcore for about 3 years now, and a lot of that has been in the Sierra mountains. I have heard Mountain Quail a hundred times, and have caught glimpses of them twice. But not even an ID photo to show of them ☹️

Great photos and video. Now that you have the location they like to hang out in, looks like it might be worth taking along a small portable hide and wait around for a few hours to see what emerges.
Most definitely! Something I’ll probably try again in the future. Going to take a break for at least 1 or 2 summers first though haha
Great shots! I'm in Arizona just west of Phoenix and we have lot's of Gambel's quail behind my backyard fence that have that similar beautiful blue color. Quail are so hard to photograph because they're so fast and skittish!
Thank you! Yea those Gambel's are beautiful as well, never gotten to see them myself. Quail are definitely a tricky subject to photograph!
