- The Dirty South Roubaix is a bicycle race in Southern Illinois that starts and ends in Alto Pass. Over 700 riders from all over showed up on a foggy morning to tackle either the 100K or 50K race course. I'm not a racer, so I sat this one out. But my friend and fellow RUclipsr Shawn, from "Hiking With Shawn" braved the 50K race. The sun came out, burned off the fog and a sunny day was had by all.
I binged your videos last night, Paul. Thank you so much for sharing all of these. Keep em coming!! :D
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!
Thanks for posting Paul! Gravel is lots of fun (and railtrails too!). Hope retirement is treating you well! Take care! Alex 🇨🇦🍻
Thanks Alex. Yes, retirement seems to agree with me. I threw away my alarm clock the other day, because it was broken. But actually I broke it on purpose. True story. Thanks again for watching. I hope to see you down the road (trail). Stay safe and ride on!!😎
Events like these have such a good atmosphere, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. We had a fun day! Stay safe and ride on!

Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!
"I'm not a racer" BALONEY! Race yourself. Next year it better be you out there, too
Seriously. Dude. I'm a lover, not a fighter. LOL!!
Wow Paul! Love the mix up of content! Like you, "I'm not a racer", but we touring bikers love our gravel and I must admit, I'm gravel race curious. Maybe I'll do the the Paris to Ancaster here in Southern Ontario. I love that these types of races play up the fun, not the racing. It's the experience that's important. I love that you can "race to COMPLETE, not compete"! I hope you try the fun of riding with Shawn next year. You have the legs for it and it would be a blast. Off to 'go ride my bike'. Thanks for this cool video!
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. I just found out, the Tour de Shawnee is on May 5th this year. I might look into riding this one. Stay safe and ride on!
It was a blast! I did pretty good but it was so much fun! Kudos to the organizers for a great race and setup🙏🙋♂️
What a fun day!! Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!!😎

Ahh yes it reminds me of my years at SIU in Carbondale. used to drive out to Alto Pass and Makanda all the time and to Giant City State Park. Great memories.
Thanks for watching. I love southern Illinois, Giant City and the Shawnee forest. Stay safe and ride on!
I love the fact that he is not just a bicycle rider I also love that he is my wrestling coach.
GO COACH GO!!!
Shouldn't you be getting your science homework done? 😎
Yeah I know some of us should definitely spend some more time on that...
I just found out about this race last week, and this week you posted a video about it. I’ll for sure be there next year! Thanks!

It was a great day! Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. As soon as the weather improves I hope to be out touring. I haven't decided exactly where yet. Do you have any suggestions? I was thinking western USA. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!!😎

Right here in southern Illinois. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!!😎

Amazing bicycle culture in america
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!
That's a lot of Spandex!
Lycra.
Spandex is what Olivia Newton John and John Travolta wore in that awful fitness movie back in the Eighties.
@@charliedillon1400 Spandex is a generic name for any elastane fabric, while Lycra is a brand name for DuPont's spandex product.
My opinion, it's ok for fat men to wear spandex. Just not in public. I'm a fat man! LOL!😁
I saw a pro race on TV maybe 15yrs ago where there were hidden batteries inside the road bike frames. Like weights in the belly of fish during a size/weight contest. And those Germans looked a lot alike too
I guess that's one way to win!? Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!!😎
Fun. Reminded me of my first event feeling at the Tour De Donut in Troy, OH last August. You can do that one - it's a race, but also a tour, whatever you want and you eat donuts! I believe there's one in IL too. Check them out, join in, fun.
The original--Staunton, IL 1988 Yes, great fun.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Donuts and biking riding... my kind of ride! LOL! Stay safe and ride on!!😎
Great stuff Paul. Do we know where our pal Shawn placed?
Thanks for watching. Shawn finished the 50K (31 miles) in 3hr, 15 min. I'm not sure what place he took but that's much faster than I could finish. Stay safe and ride on!
Hey Paul !
Un-related question. Have you ever tried hauling a trailer ?
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. No, I've never toured with a trailer. I've seen other's using them. So far, paniiers have worked for me. Stay safe and ride on!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!!😎
Hi! Im plannig a bije tour chi to nyc. I was wondering if you've used the calyment trail near the dunes in norther idiana. And if you think its practicable for a 200lbs dude on a road vike with gear.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. I have not used that trail. As long as the trail is at least firm packed crushed gravel or paved, your road bike should be fine. Stay safe and ride on!
is the full course length 100km or miles?
100 kilometers
SoILL!
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!!😎
🫡
Now go ride your bike 😂 ,,I like your video's
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Hope to see you on the road. Stay safe and ride on!😎
I thought Paul was also a roadie….
Bike traveler, not a racer. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!!😎
Dirty south?
A 100K (or 50K) bike race in southern Illinois on gravel and paved roads. Over 700 riders. I didn't ride in it, but it was a fun day anyways. Thanks for watching.
@@paulsuchecki3985 I'm switching to gravel from mtb. I just find it odd that it's called dirty south being up there.
