  • For anyone wondering, I don't put that much editing work into my voice over videos as I do my animations. The main reason for this is because they mostly just offer my opinions and that is it for the most part.

    I also got into animation and did everything in FK in SFM, cause Ik just Felt wierd. It wasn't until I got into Blender and later went to school for Maya that I realised. "Oh shit real animators use IK and REALER animators us FK/IK switches and know when to use each"
    this video was such a relatable ramble to anyone who started getting into animation with SFM

    I know this video was made 10 months ago, but I thought I would leave an opinion as someone who started with blender, and still uses blender. The one issue I have with blender is that there isn't a specific workshop, and on websites, there is lots of crappy models. I've messed around and made a few projects in SFM and I truly believe that its really good at just shoving you right into animation, and because thats the only thing you can do, the UI is a lot better for beginners. I've also noticed, SFM has WAY better performance than blender, so if you happen to have a pretty bad computer, SFM would probably be the way to go. Otherwise (with a little bias) I would probably just start with blender. (also, SFM is extremely outdated, and blender actually gets updates)

    You know, I have been looking up a lot of blender and SFM stuff recently and trying to based my models around SFM, even though I never used it or make any models for any source game. This definitely shed some light I was unaware off about SFM. All those weird rigging, scripting, and auto-rigging scripting requirement; did I mention the bone rig is strange when imported to blender?
    I wasn't expecting someone that is relatively unknown to give me the right insight during my mad research into rigging. Thanks for saving my time!

    Yep, this is basically my experience with SFM.
    Still use it to this day and I have a love-hate relationship with it because how broken and limited it is, despite it being easier to use. I plan on making a full transition to using other programs, in specific, Unity 3D which you can use for making animated films aswell, while using Blender for modelling.
    I guess I've just put it off simply because I'm just so familiar with using SFM, but I think it's truly time to finally make the final jump.

    Really nice video! do you have any tips to start out? Which channels to watch? or what did you do👃

    I like both! I feel like blender has less limitations and sfm is the opposite. Both are great but for starters, sfm Is better. If you want to get more advanced and learn and improve more, switching to blender would be a good choice

    I've been fooling around with SFM for a little while now, still going through the basic tutorials but taking a lot of time between vids.
    Been really considering focusing on blender just because I've found you can't mirror limbs like I've seen others do in blender tutorials, and it's been bugging me a lot. Aside from that, sfm has a bunch of weird little outdated things I'm really surprised are still there, like the general advice for best exporting a film utilizes blender already, so I'm thinking like you, made as well use just blender and cut out the middle man.

    There's a lot that can be done in Blender, and unlike the abandoned SFM, it's getting updates. However, I think SFM is great for starting to love animation.

    Guess i stay with SFM for now..
    I don't have time to learn new software anyway.
    Better get better at SFM

      That’s a bad mindset, the problem is you won’t get better with Sfm, it’s heavily limiting your abilities. If you have time to get better with Sfm you have time to get better with any other software.

      @@Duckbusinessmani mean blender is better, but i ain't waiting 5Months to render 5min animation, so imma stick to sfm

    • @Duckbusinessman
      @Duckbusinessman 3 месяца назад

      @@keyseven5298 then thats just an issue on your part with being awful at optimizing a scene. or not decreasing the sample rate. for the longest time i used blender on a laptop that was considered low-end in 2010.... up until this year. Being lazy is just your problem. I know this comes off as rude probably, but i just cant stand people admitting that they have better options but just dont have the willpower to do anything about it.

    • @keyseven5298
      @keyseven5298 3 месяца назад

      @@Duckbusinessman truth is no matter how much you optimize in blender, sfm will always render faster, because sfm is a software required to run fast, also it depends on lighting system as well,
      I have used both sfm and blender and as a beginner animator, sfm is better for simplicity.

    • @Duckbusinessman
      @Duckbusinessman 3 месяца назад

      @@keyseven5298 well yeah, duh. Of course it runs faster. But the cost is the results are worse. Animating and modeling is about patience. People never get better when they just wanna pump out stuff fast. Ive used both too, and am now in a semi-professional field at the moment. Blender is a miracle that its free, it competes with paid softwares. (which i have also used). Blender is just better if you want to have even half decent results. Ironically, the amount of time it takes to make your SFM scene look even remotely like blender, blender would already be done rendering.
