So, the part of the dialog that was in the novels but got cut in anime - the scene at the Tree when Subaru was moved to tears: - I love Emilia, but... whenever I see you, my heart trembles. There... you can think of me as a horrible guy now. - You are a terrible person, Subaru-kun. - I know... - That was a lie. I love you. - That... I know. ... - While we are at it, I don't mind being a second wife. - ...Only if Emilia will allow it... - Alright! Then I'll have to do my best to convince her!

Subaru was just done with the humiliating and disparaging insults he received, so he accepted and decided that they were right. And it wasn't easy to give up. He relied too much on his own ability. It was painful. The agony he went through to realize what he is was long and painful. Good thing Rem was there.
The author really deliver a good example of what could happen to isekai mc in another world where you don't know anything and there's nothing much you can do. At some point, Subaru mental breakdown to the lowest point of his life feel so real, not mention he's just a teen alone in unknown world.
When Subaru is done to be the victim it's time for him to be the prey. Sounds actually true judging by how he always ends up in the worse spot than before

To be fair to Subaru, his “not easy” was a bit of dramatic irony at play there. I don’t know anyone else who would trudge through horrible death, betrayal and despair that many times across multiple timelines to help someone. PTSD is an absolute dog, and I sometimes wonder if Rem would have thought the same had she been privy to the full depths of his exploits.
Crusch wasn't actually rejecting him for business reasons, she rejected him so harshly because just as her camp are organising to take down a nightmare that's been killing people for 400 years in the kingdom he arrives and begs for help against ANOTHER nightmare in the kingdom without even any military strength to offer. While doubting Emilia's supporters' own strength because Roswaal should be defending their territories.
Also I believe someone mentioned in the comments last video about the What IF Spinoff novel about Rem actually running away with Subaru, there's actually a lot of these What IF Spinoffs, for example, there's one where Subaru really does become Pride, and doesn't save Emilia in the first arc, and slowly goes insane after 80+ tries. Really interesting reads. It makes me think how downright horrible Subaru could get if Rem wasn't there to reign him back in, after seeing him become the villain in the spinoff. Though I know nothing about S2's content, and I am very fearful of it as people are hyping it up.
