The horse breeding bug report too. We definitely should mass bug report netherite being too difficult, using the horse breeding bug report as precedent
interesting decision to do a string pickaxe, I thought they were originally going to be doing a copper brush? edit: it was changed to stick copper feather like I thought
They definitely were. Wonder if they'll go back and censor out the section of the original Minecraft Live video that showed that version of archaeology and then tell us we were always at war with Eastasia?
I assume they wanted it to be super easy to get. If you spawned in near a desert temple on the first day of the world you could loot it pretty much right away.
It would be cool if we could use the dyes to change the color of the chests! :) Like shulkers. Maybe even change texture, with the anvil (Chest + iron ingot) gives a chest with a metallic texture. Many times I found that the chests did not match with the decorations.
13:40 You could for example, make a pot with 4 skull fragments (or fewer if it's against a wall) and have it be some kind of poison that with Redstone if broken would cause wither or poison to afflict all players within a certain range and depending on the items, if it can store items you could put arrows in the archery pot to give a subtle hint as to how to beat a puzzle instead of just a chest with a bow and arrow. With the prize pottery shard it could be something like a price hidden in a room of vases and only the one with the prize would contain the prize and once again with Redstone you could inflict damage on players that open the wrong pots. Many more ideas are possible, that's just what I thought for those 3. I'm blanking at the moment on the arms up shard though. Maybe I might think of something later.
For some reason here lately it amuses me when games add cherry blossoms to their world, which bloom perpetually when I believe their real world bloom season is very short.
Maybe if they add more shards in the future we'll get something a bit more visually interesting. If they add a smithing template to the loot table for suspicious sand it would make it worth finding for a lot more players.
I like these features, but there's nothing more behind them. It seems like a lot of the features they're adding are pretty barebones. I hope they develop them further, but it seems like they should have already done that at this point. Archaeology seemed more developed when they introduced it as a concept than what we have now. For example, I think they could add some cool mechanics with the Sniffer, like being able to find more than 1 redundant flower. Also thought of an idea where the Sniffer would eat overhanging fully-grown Vines that touch the ground. It would be able to trim up a lot of overgrown areas that way and would give the Sniffer more utility. I mean, it doesn't even drop anything. Also would love to see an archaeology shard that would work like the Storage Barrels mod, allowing us players to store a lot of one item in a single space.
Call me a hater- but really. There is an inability being demonstrated to build upon any existing system in this game. Always adding shiny new things which are then themselves never fleshed out. If you don't like some of these features, don't worry! Mojang will never touch them again after 1.20.
I think it's a fear of changing the fundamental parts of the game. They can't improve things without upsetting lots of people, so it's easier to just add new features. The original mobs and structures are too iconic to change, and altering mechanics for balance or more fun game play would be controversial. I don't think there's a solution.
It's also sad, because I remember a video, something about "what makes a Minecraft mod vanilla-like?" One of the points was about the exact thing you mentioned, that features should be built upon existing systems, which is how Mojang implement new features. Or at least that used to be the case..
My question is: but with all these mobs with quite complex animations (warden, frogs, sniffer), don't the old mobs look outdated from this point of view?
For how much effort it takes to find a sniffer and for them to dig up the seeds, the torch flower should really have a more prominent use other than decoration. Like a new type of dye such as flame dye, or even a new sign effect similar to the glow ink sack.
Hope they do more with the torch flower; it's pretty but come on, give it some interesting function. Let bees make a different type of honey from it, make them emit light, or attract mobs, or something.
honestly i really love the sas in this one from destroying stories to bug reporting netherite hard and no fun allowed lol. honestly never even thought it was a bug big animals not getting kicked out when they grew, if anything i thought the bug was the big animals not coliding correctly preventing them entering.
I instantly had the idea to e.g. use the different signal strenghts from the jukebox to select pistonpolt intersections or something like that, so you always have some music in your hub
Ilmango said that juckbox could be used as a 4 bit encoder, so this is possible, or even use more than one to create a very compact selector with a huge variaty of outputs
Curious what your stance is on the horses. I see no downside to it, considering horses are still garbage, even if you can optimize their stats now. I will await that video. I am also not going to knock the concept of the pottery/archeology right now. There information is still scarce on it and is subject to change or be expanded in the future. 28:18 The insane contrast between these 2 mobs is hilarious to me. Look how nice the camel animation is compared to the stiff horse in the back. Feels so outdated now.
Why use a max speed horse when you can just make dolphin/soulspeed highways, piston bolt nether subways, or just the good ol' elytra? The amount of effort to make the best horse is not worth it at all. But imagine if we could make enchanted horse shoes and give them soul speed. I want my horses to be like sonic and have those stiff legs spin in a circle while they move.
It seems like there is still a lot of effort that goes into horse breeding. It's just that now it's more accessible to the general audience and more intuitive. If there are three stats, each of which have a 50% improval chance. That's still 7/8 horses that have some kind of deficiency. So the breeding is much more selective for all three, but casual players can reliably select for specific traits too. Horse breeding wasn't worth it for most players before. But it seems like now it can be done more reliably and intuitively. Seems more like they just added a huge amount of content for the more casual audience. Which I think is good. And it doesn't break the existing farms either. And the difficulty still has nuance as the number of traits selected for make the process more time consuming.
@@TheAce5399 Have you tried laying a big floor in a farm with dolphin/soulspeed highways, piston bolt nether subways, or elytra? Yeah, that kinda doesn't work :D A horse can be used for so much more than just the common fast long distance travel.
Now we need different colors of those pink flower carpets on the ground. More flowers in general, more bushy but short flower patches, more tall flowers, different colors of flowers, flower fields 🌝🌝🌝
Oh wow. Hi :) Gonna watch the video now Edit: great update review as always. How does a sus sand store what you got the first time? Did we just get a tile entity that can be broken by a piston?
i'd like for sus sand to be expanded to dirt, clay, gravel and soulsand; maybe netherrack and tuff, which would need chisels instead of brushes. maybe even something like sus sculk, but i think neither a brush nor a chisel would fit that, maybe a scalpel, furthering the quasi-lore that sculk lives somehow. the different sus blocks would have their loot-lists, like sus soulsand could mostly drop gold (maybe rings) but also seldomly ancient scraps or something soul relatet, also nether-pottery? sus tuff could give raw ores, maybe seldomly a budding amethyst? sus sculk could drop xp, or when used with bottles in the offhand bottles of enchanting, maybe echo shards or enchanted books; maybe there is a small chance that sus sculk releases a screech spawning a warden, so it could be very risky. also (this idea is not my own) players could be able to craft sus blocks with items of their choice for their friends to find, which i totally agree with also if one would include a chisel for tuff, one may also use it for mining, like you could use the chisel to get raw ore out of stone with the stone remaining, and maybe having like fortune 2 or something. i think there is a whole lot of potential
suspicious sand has two loot tabels desert well and desert pyramid desert well loot table: 1 pottery_shard_arms_up, it is 3 times as likely as any other item in this loot table 1 brick 1 emerald 1 stick 1 suspicious_stew with night_vision, jump_boost, weakness, blindness, poision or saturation 1 rools so one of these, but pottery shard is more likely desert pyramid loot table: 1 pottery_shard_archer 1 pottery_shard_prize 1 pottery_shard_skull 1 gunpowder 1 tnt 1 diamond 1 emerald 1 rools so one of these, everything has the same chance
As the sniffers need a bigger pen, this might be one of those cases were allay colection is the way to go. Or you can have the sniffers in a fixed position and feed the dirt on a timer.
@@Awyllie101 True. Makes more sense to push the sniffers back and forth over a row of 20 blocks, either on a 8' timer or detecting the sniff (if possible).
The bees reminds me again of how I want to do bee farms in the future- I was a bit worried I had just assumed that having 15 bees for 4 (all pointing into the same air/vine/fence block) would eventually sort itself outon its own so that the bees take orderly shifts, so I did the logical proof on the backs of some market receipts I had lying around, and even if all the bees initially leave the hives (in groups of 3) just 1 tick apart which is just about the worst possible initial state of the farm, it only takes about 6 minutes for them to start taking orderly shifts so that _(aside from maybe a few ticks or less when their shifts change)_ there's only 3 bees above the shared flower at a time. This only works when there's the extra 3 bees per 4-hive-module (so 15 instead of 12) though, with 12 bees you not only loose out on the hives always being in a honey producing mode, but also the bees will retain their overlapping shift schedules. The only thing left to test is what happens to that sixth honey level... surely it's wasted... this bothers me, but it might be easily fixable.
I think that they missed a chance on how to make more of the pink flowers. Instead of using bone meal, it could appear if there is a block of cherry leaves above a solid block with an air block between them (or increase one stage if it is already there, but not full). It could work only for naturally generated ones and ones that come from growing a sapling, not ones manually placed by players, so you could avoid creating the flowers where you don't want them.
The archer and skull shards can be used to portray an ancient warrior civilization. The arms and prize shard can be used to tell stories of prosperity.
Here's how I always wanted horse stats to work: with a simplified genetics system. Let's say that each horse has 8 genes that affect its speed, with an "Activated" allele and an "Deactivated" allele. If a horse has all 8 of its speed genes activated, it is max speed. If it has none, it has min speed. Thus there's 256 possible speed values (though this number could be tweaked.) This can also apply to jump height, and something similar for health. I used 8 as an example, but different numbers would be fine depending on how difficult Mojang would want it to be to breed a max stat horse. Breeding takes randomly selects which parent to inherit each gene from. So parents that are already fast are more likely to pass down more speed genes. But also, two horses with the *exact* same gene will never breed a faster horse. You could also add a small random mutation factor where occasionally children have random alleles instead of one from either parent.
Arms up > Archery > Skull > Prize I feel like the story being told here is that of someone shooting another person with a bow and looting their items. I think we would need more shards to really tell out own stories but as of now it does allude to something that's not only in minecraft lore but is common in a lot of PvP servers. Also if you align them in pillars one could possibly make a story through that, I do wish there were more shards though, if they intend these to have some narrative purpose.
so this is a small thing but here if you wanted to know the total amount of unique pot combinations is roughly 160 how you work this out is for each side there is currently 5 states it could be (5 instead of 4 because the blank side is also a state) then since we have 4 sides these can be it will be 5^4 combinations 5^4 25*5*5 125*5 625 (post edit) the reply made me think about it a bit more so we have 5 values which are the same when rotated (easer to show as base 5 as there are 5 states 1 side can be) 0000, 1111, 2222, 3333, 4444 leaving 620 values if we assume that each pattern has 4 different values but the only way to tell apart is the starting rotation then we can combine them for example 1234 2341 3412 2341 so we do (620/4) +5 155+5 roughly 160 unique patters
There are actually fewer than that - a pot with pattern ABCD is the same as a pot with pattern BCDA or CDAB or DABC. My gut instinct for calculating this is to divide by 4 but that obviously doesn’t work given that the total number you found is odd.
@@titaniadioxide6133 honestly my calculation is very rudimentary the main reason it's an odd number is the fact 0000,1111, 2222, 3333, 4444 (think of those as base 5 numbers) come will have the only permutations if we take those out of the pull we get 620 results for most of these numbers it should end up like this bellow for the same but rotated 1234 2341 3412 2341 so basic maths of us dividing 620 by 4 you get 155(+5) unique patterns

so if Iunderstand it right: Torchflowers have no use other than breeding sniffers or crafting orange dye, but for the latter, it's much simpler to use roses and sunflowers, since 2 tall flowers can be bonemealed as much as we want, and red + yellow = orange. I mean they're still a nice decoration, but that's it. Sniffers also have no use other than getting ancient seeds as far as I see, right? The horse breeding bug report too. We definitely should mass bug report netherite being too difficult, using the horse breeding bug report as precedent
Thank you for teaching me this line
interesting decision to do a string pickaxe, I thought they were originally going to be doing a copper brush?
edit: it was changed to stick copper feather like I thought
They definitely were. Wonder if they'll go back and censor out the section of the original Minecraft Live video that showed that version of archaeology and then tell us we were always at war with Eastasia?
I assume they wanted it to be super easy to get. If you spawned in near a desert temple on the first day of the world you could loot it pretty much right away.
That's almost definitely true, but it's still a bit silly. Is it really that hard to return to a structure the 5 minutes later it takes to get copper?
@@MrToby11 I imagine the recipe to be stick + copper + feather would not be that much harder to get than 3 string
@@bloodwolf2609 Yes but the string could be found in the desert temple.
I think the sus sand should turn into normal sand when it falls or a player breaks it, rather than it just vanishing.
It would be cool if we could use the dyes to change the color of the chests! :) Like shulkers.
Maybe even change texture,
with the anvil (Chest + iron ingot) gives a chest with a metallic texture.
This snapshot left me with a bittersweet taste
Imagine growing a cherry tree into someone’s base from the outside
here's hoping for a massive beetle as one of those potential ancient mobs

I wasn't interested in minecraft archeology before, and by the looks of it that will remain the case.
You had me in the first half (XD)
Maybe if they add more shards in the future we'll get something a bit more visually interesting. If they add a smithing template to the loot table for suspicious sand it would make it worth finding for a lot more players.
@@zkeletonz001 The archeology back then in the trailer was way more interesting, But probably didn't work out for them.
New snapshot, cool. Thanks for your video, ilmango.
The horse breeding sass is on point XD
Mango being passive aggressive about the clay pots is funny af
He was even mad about the horses and passive aggressive tone mentioning the bug reporter
That sea pickle idea looks PERFECT for a mini cactus design!! Also screw pots
It would be nice to be able to combine a regular sand block with an item in order to create a suspicious sand block containing the item
@@giantroboteye5371 The solution is to man up and just do it
It's also sad, because I remember a video, something about "what makes a Minecraft mod vanilla-like?"
One of the points was about the exact thing you mentioned, that features should be built upon existing systems, which is how Mojang implement new features. Or at least that used to be the case..
My question is:
but with all these mobs with quite complex animations (warden, frogs, sniffer), don't the old mobs look outdated from this point of view?
i agreed!
thats why i uses fresh animations resource pack to counter it
And that's supposed to mean that they could never update the animations? That would be a really dumb logic
@@racernatorde5318 never said
@@thethinger860 Mojang could update the old mobs. But that'll probably take 10 years
I agree. The new mobs do not fit into the feel of the old game
Let bees make a different type of honey from it, make them emit light, or attract mobs, or something.
funny this snapshot adds treasure hunting and dinosaurs and the most intersting thing added is a pink tree
honestly i really love the sas in this one from destroying stories to bug reporting netherite hard and no fun allowed lol.
honestly never even thought it was a bug big animals not getting kicked out when they grew, if anything i thought the bug was the big animals not coliding correctly preventing them entering.
Sniffers also sometimes drop Moss blocks on death, not only XP
It would be really fun to be able to put two tall flowers into the decorative pots.
Do you remember that they simplified the horse around 1.15 or so? They were more sophisticated before. Weird decision in hindsight
The only advantage I see to the old system is to have a bit of pride on multiplayer servers for having the fastest horse.
I think they should get pottery shards but they are a blank canvas to dye like banners. Still rare and add more customizability
suspicious sand is like a new fishing ? nice.

with/without loot table
It‘s the year 2069. Mojang just released minecraft 1.87.
We now have 120 types of wood.
Still can’t move chests though.
Oh wow. Hi :)
Gonna watch the video now
Edit: great update review as always.
How does a sus sand store what you got the first time? Did we just get a tile entity that can be broken by a piston?
You can get overstacked non-stackables by setting the item in the suspicious sand with commands and then brushing it.
I think you should be able put multiple flowers into the big pot. And you could put different flowers into it. That would be cool.
Your comment about the horse breeding / netherite cracked me up so bad :D
the passive aggressive netherite comment killed me lol.
Yeah I loved that. 😆
i'd like for sus sand to be expanded to dirt, clay, gravel and soulsand; maybe netherrack and tuff, which would need chisels instead of brushes. maybe even something like sus sculk, but i think neither a brush nor a chisel would fit that, maybe a scalpel, furthering the quasi-lore that sculk lives somehow. the different sus blocks would have their loot-lists, like sus soulsand could mostly drop gold (maybe rings) but also seldomly ancient scraps or something soul relatet, also nether-pottery? sus tuff could give raw ores, maybe seldomly a budding amethyst? sus sculk could drop xp, or when used with bottles in the offhand bottles of enchanting, maybe echo shards or enchanted books; maybe there is a small chance that sus sculk releases a screech spawning a warden, so it could be very risky.
also (this idea is not my own) players could be able to craft sus blocks with items of their choice for their friends to find, which i totally agree with
also if one would include a chisel for tuff, one may also use it for mining, like you could use the chisel to get raw ore out of stone with the stone remaining, and maybe having like fortune 2 or something. i think there is a whole lot of potential
I really hope we get the ability to put 2 tall plants in the new pots
While we watch this, ilmago is designing a new tree farm.
I have officially run out of spare sorters for my storage. I now get to design a completely new storage - and im both excited as i am overwhelmed.
Mojang: a new type of sand that may have treasure in it! - ilmango: skip the treasure, let's see if is any good for redstone mechanics :D priceless!
Perhaps the real treasure was the redstone mechanics we discovered along the way

1 suspicious_stew with night_vision, jump_boost, weakness, blindness, poision or saturation
1 rools so one of these, but pottery shard is more likely

1 pottery_shard_prize
1 pottery_shard_skull
1 gunpowder
1 tnt
1 diamond
1 emerald
1 rools so one of these, everything has the same chance
As the sniffers need a bigger pen, this might be one of those cases were allay colection is the way to go. Or you can have the sniffers in a fixed position and feed the dirt on a timer.
Seems they remember coordinates so the dirt timer wouldn’t work
@@Awyllie101 True. Makes more sense to push the sniffers back and forth over a row of 20 blocks, either on a 8' timer or detecting the sniff (if possible).
That jukebox thing is so cool! Just worried about sound… people were already complaining about the note blocks, what are they gonna say about music! 😂
thanks, I'm also happy with the music system
Making a suspicious sand as an opening for a piston door would be so cool
I think that they missed a chance on how to make more of the pink flowers.
Instead of using bone meal, it could appear if there is a block of cherry leaves above a solid block with an air block between them (or increase one stage if it is already there, but not full).
It could work only for naturally generated ones and ones that come from growing a sapling, not ones manually placed by players, so you could avoid creating the flowers where you don't want them.
The archer and skull shards can be used to portray an ancient warrior civilization. The arms and prize shard can be used to tell stories of prosperity.
I like how the cherry bark looks
Those biologists... I love it
Arms up > Archery > Skull > Prize
I feel like the story being told here is that of someone shooting another person with a bow and looting their items. I think we would need more shards to really tell out own stories but as of now it does allude to something that's not only in minecraft lore but is common in a lot of PvP servers. Also if you align them in pillars one could possibly make a story through that, I do wish there were more shards though, if they intend these to have some narrative purpose.
so this is a small thing but here if you wanted to know the total amount of unique pot combinations is roughly 160
how you work this out is for each side there is currently 5 states it could be (5 instead of 4 because the blank side is also a state)
then since we have 4 sides these can be it will be 5^4 combinations
5^4
25*5*5
125*5
625
(post edit)
the reply made me think about it a bit more
so we have 5 values which are the same when rotated (easer to show as base 5 as there are 5 states 1 side can be)
0000, 1111, 2222, 3333, 4444
leaving 620 values
if we assume that each pattern has 4 different values but the only way to tell apart is the starting rotation then we can combine them
for example
1234
2341
3412
2341
so we do (620/4) +5
155+5
roughly 160 unique patters
There are actually fewer than that - a pot with pattern ABCD is the same as a pot with pattern BCDA or CDAB or DABC.
My gut instinct for calculating this is to divide by 4 but that obviously doesn’t work given that the total number you found is odd.
@@titaniadioxide6133
honestly my calculation is very rudimentary
the main reason it's an odd number is the fact 0000,1111, 2222, 3333, 4444 (think of those as base 5 numbers) come will have the only permutations
if we take those out of the pull we get 620 results
for most of these numbers it should end up like this bellow for the same but rotated
1234
2341
3412
2341
so basic maths of us dividing 620 by 4 you get 155(+5) unique patterns

C'mon illmango, I am most excited for the buff of the horse breeding! I play Minecraft on my mid spec phone, and using an elytra lags a lot. So I am really excited to be able to breed better horses!🙌
You won't notice a difference
it was always easy to get a good horse. the change makes it trivially easy to get the best horse.
so if Iunderstand it right:
Torchflowers have no use other than breeding sniffers or crafting orange dye, but for the latter, it's much simpler to use roses and sunflowers, since 2 tall flowers can be bonemealed as much as we want, and red + yellow = orange. I mean they're still a nice decoration, but that's it.
Sniffers also have no use other than getting ancient seeds as far as I see, right?
As for the changes to growing up animals in boats, what'd happen if we updated a world from an older version thatalready had a grown up donkey/horse/mule/camel in a boat?
I also don't want them to patch the bubble column suspicious sand thing. The block would be nice as an extra building block (even though it's rare)
now i see why chiseled bookshelves were add : to make and test the pottery feature !
Pottery should be mid-game shulkers. With the number of shards being the number of slots it can hold.
That's actually a pretty neat idea.
That idea is good in principle until you realise shulkers are exponentially easier to get than pots.
@@MacGuy3135 Gamemodes where the end isn't accessible or is gated could use it. Particularly peaceful mode players who aren't using the special seeds.
