Replacing $500 Helical Cutters!

We’ve been running a 20” helical head planer for the past 4 years and this is the best tool in our shop! We push approximately 20,000 bdft of lumber through this bad boy each year and our ‪@byrdtool4062‬ “Shelix” cutter head makes it a dream.
There are plenty of review videos on these types of cutters already, so that’s not what this video is….this is simply showing the steps to properly clean and rotate/exchange these cutters to make sure you can get the best cut quality possible.

So how long in total did it take you do finish this process? How cost effective is this compared to say a bench planer a typical person will have access to?

Without filming this would take about 1-2 hrs

It’s probably the most cost effective…but may not be necessary unless you process lots of lumber. We run about 10,000 bdft before we need to rotate these.
