Alice's hair represents the extent of control she has in given situation. Much like a shield, in Wonderland, it's long and flowy, in real life - shorter and stiffer. In order to mess with her brain directly, the "doctors" quite literally had to strip her off of this shield.

I was going through a mental health crisis, when this game was released. Playing it helped me to cope. I think the entire game is beautiful, despite how dark the storyline is.
@dorkbrandon4422 gosh I’m so glad you added this. Alice is a game that’s always helped me through mental health struggles but the card bridge compares to nothing else I can ever describe. I remember being in a really manic state in high school at one point and posting on tumblr about the bridge, and how I was floating and I was at peace and I was happy, nothing could hurt. I thought maybe I was a little odd, but you just validated me 100% lol. It always washed me over with a sense of “I’ve never been here before, yet I know this place inside and out” and it’s such an awesome transition to the brutality of Queensland.
This and American McGee’s Alice are two of my favorite games. I friggen LOVE them! I remember going to Circuit City with my Dad when I was like 10 or 11 or something and seeing the first one for PC and wanting it soooo soooo bad. I would carry it around with me every time we went to Circuit City or CompUSA. One day I came home from school and my dad told me to grab him something out of the cupboard in the kitchen and the game was sitting there on the shelf and I was SOOO EXCITED!! Love that I have these awesome memories! The nostalgia is real!
I didn't realize this was that old! Didn't know circuit city was still around then! Then again I wasn't introduced to this game til about 2014 so of course it's going to still feel new to me. Seems this game aged very well!
I played this game with a friend who took his own life and it reminds me of good times when he was happy...bringing tears to my face now that I'm thinking of him. just a great game . we loved it. i will cherish those times forever

I played this game when it was first released. This is the only one who has made me feel all kinds of weird feelings. All due to the graphics and especially its music. The music for this game is in another level for me. They did an amazing job. I'm playing it again for the 4th or 5th time. It still doesn't stop giving me the weird feelings and I love it! Can't wait to play Alice: Asylum! I hope that it's the same type of vibes as this Madness 😁

The art design is beautiful, creepy, and dark, mixed with glamor here and there. And the music really pushed this over the edge. The ambiance and music really makes you feel like you’re going insane. Fr next time you play the game spend a few more minutes looking around at the morbid details and twisted cartoonish designs. And listen to that music. You’ll always notice something creepy you didn’t hear before

Awsome game, dark and cute at the same time, alice look so dark but pretty savage with dark hair and those green eyes, love her!!! Little details on gameplay that made me fall in love with this game: Alice's hair movement when jump or fall, when she is standing for long time idle, she starts doing that funny forward-back movement, so cute!!!! The big dolls atack is so sad cause they cry and whimper when you shot them and rip their clothes. All chapters are so well done, many puzzles and very good graphics, ill give it 8/10 only because enemies are so repetitive at all levels.
Queensland gas got to be my favorite segment of this game. I have a feeling many others like it too...since it's one of the most "alice in wonderland" feeling moments. The land in the sky, playing cards, the red queen. This game for some reason reminded me of that old fps Painkiller. Very macabre style horror I guess.
6:30:34 I almost forgot about these sequences. This whole game is a surreal experience. For a while it was such a chase for all companies to be the most graphically cutting edge and realistic. This game atleast reminded that even with the ability, a pure work of art has more allure than simply realism.
It seems like you've cut out a bit too much in different sections of the vid. The one I just noticed was at 8:07:00 to 8:07:58. Its really jarring when it seems like you've completely missed some content to the game.

I didn't know how entertaining it would be to watch this played a decade plus after I originally played it. It was my 1st game in over 2 decades (at age 41, after loving gaming before marriage, kids, and illnesses). It was my first game to learn new consoles and controllers, after having only used older Nintendo before (zelda and mario). I loved it so much. I have The Art of Alice Madness Returns book too which is gorgeous. I looked for this, because "Bitch Baby" popped into my mind the other day and then I saw an instagram real volcano drone with sound video and the sound reminded me of the game, lol. I always wished there were more games like this as far as the artistry, music and aesthetics. See there might be Alice: Asylum soon, but not looking very hopeful give EA and publishing rights. I have played other games, but nothing compares to this one.
im super late to this but omg, im enjoying it so much. im fixated with the animations in the cutscenes, and the storyline. i only found out about this game today too, it's just so interesting. i hope i can watch the video in its entirety soon
You know, I like to believe that Bumby didn't just throw the lamp to the fireplace (I'm not american, I don't know how you say "lareira" in english) like Alice believes he did, since that doesn't fit the intro of the first game. I like to believe that Bumby, after abusing Alice's sister, he saw the library and realized that the place was indeed a fire trap. So, he put the lamp close to the fireplace, he grabed Alice's sleepy cat (she neither woke up nor attacked him, because he acquired Lizzie's smell after raping her), put her on the book shelf that was most likely to, if the books fell, knock over the lamp release its inflamible liquid into the fireplace, and discreetly woke her up, quickly geting out of the house right after that.
According to a thing I read, Bumby raped and murderes Lizzie, so he burned the house down to destroy the evidence, and kill any witnesses. After finding out Alice survived the fire, he spent his time pretending to help her through therapy, but instead erasing the memories of the fire, and the things she saw. Because from what I understood, she saw him going to Lizzies room.
this game is reallY disturbing if you’ve read the books like example for the duchess she had a child but when alice held it and threw it up playfully it was a pig. the duchess ate her child :D

Basically what I am saying is this, "Alice: Madness Returns the video game was duplicated from Alice And The Wonderland, Walter created Alice the girl to be known as a good girl, meanwhile, Alice the girl from this video game, take on a bad girl characteristic. Therefore, it makes a great storyline twist, Alice the girl from the classic Disney cartoon, to me personally, she is labeled as one of the five wise one, meanwhile, her double twin on this video game, to me again, personally, she is labeled as one of the five foolish one." This is a reminder, even whimsical, of what people allowed the medical community to get away with in the past, how they were allowed to treat other humans as nothing more than experiments. And a very good reason why you have to keep a close eye on what we are willing to tolerate as a society when it comes to their "treatments". People actually thought drilling holes in someones skull with mental issues was helpful at one point because they were told that and just believed it. Even though studies showed the opposite. We have similar things taking place today.

I always remember the first one coming out when I was thirteen. I was like 23, 24 when this one came out and I never got around to playing it. Just put it I on my Xbox and gonna play through it this weekend. Late 90s early 2000s so many good games!
Remember playing this for the first time on Xbox, I only knew the game by title alone and went in completely blind and beat it within like 3 days. It was such a fun and unforgettable experience. Really hope we get another Alice game in the future 😩
Wow I've never seen or played this, only found out it existed when I heard news EA wasn't interested in supporting the third game. This seems to be a very different version of a horror game. Well, I guess it's time to play it and find out.

this is one of the best playstation games I've played. There were rumors that they were going to create a sequel (alice in otherland... or something like that)....but it never happened
The last 20 minutes of this was absolutely insane. This whole game, and the one before it felt like they were just edgy for the sake of a really interesting horror concept and art style. That last 20 minutes or so not only got far more disturbing than the rest of the game and the previous game combined, but suddenly revealed a meaning and purpose. An English teacher in my high school, absolutely insane in the right ways, spent a good amount of time teaching us that violence is only gratuitous if you don't feel anything. That violence is inherently grotesque and disturbing and that if you don't feel that then it is being used wrong and is unnecessary and offensive. After spending so much time falsely believing that I was in some way weak for being disturbed by something I was merely seeing and trying to numb myself to that, I took in her words and understood them in theory. I think I actually know what she meant now.
I think they are edgy but I wouldn't say it's just for the sake of being edgy. There is good story too over all, and the art style plays into that and vice versa.
Looking at those questions at the 9 hour mark, i knew straight away that the answer to the first question was coffin cause your using it when you come to rest but you never know because your not alive to witness it, question 3's answer was heart as you can be known to break someone's heart meaning their feelings.
Such an amazing game! Would love to see more Alice games be made! So many good memories seeing this game? What other games would you say have similar design and game play? would love to see a list

I always wished there were more games like this as far as the artistry, music and aesthetics. See there might be Alice: Asylum soon, but not looking very hopeful give EA and publishing rights. I have played other games, but nothing compares to this one.

im super late to this but omg, im enjoying it so much. im fixated with the animations in the cutscenes, and the storyline. i only found out about this game today too, it's just so interesting. i hope i can watch the video in its entirety soon
You know, I like to believe that Bumby didn't just throw the lamp to the fireplace (I'm not american, I don't know how you say "lareira" in english) like Alice believes he did, since that doesn't fit the intro of the first game. I like to believe that Bumby, after abusing Alice's sister, he saw the library and realized that the place was indeed a fire trap. So, he put the lamp close to the fireplace, he grabed Alice's sleepy cat (she neither woke up nor attacked him, because he acquired Lizzie's smell after raping her), put her on the book shelf that was most likely to, if the books fell, knock over the lamp release its inflamible liquid into the fireplace, and discreetly woke her up, quickly geting out of the house right after that.
According to a thing I read, Bumby raped and murderes Lizzie, so he burned the house down to destroy the evidence, and kill any witnesses. After finding out Alice survived the fire, he spent his time pretending to help her through therapy, but instead erasing the memories of the fire, and the things she saw. Because from what I understood, she saw him going to Lizzies room.
this game is reallY disturbing if you’ve read the books like example for the duchess she had a child but when alice held it and threw it up playfully it was a pig. the duchess ate her child :D

Looking at this game, may look boring, but I enjoy the storyline, it reminds me what I learn in a church, years ago. Five foolish ones and five wise ones. Basically what I am saying is this, "Alice: Madness Returns the video game was duplicated from Alice And The Wonderland, Walter created Alice the girl to be known as a good girl, meanwhile, Alice the girl from this video game, take on a bad girl characteristic. Therefore, it makes a great storyline twist, Alice the girl from the classic Disney cartoon, to me personally, she is labeled as one of the five wise one, meanwhile, her double twin on this video game, to me again, personally, she is labeled as one of the five foolish one." This is a reminder, even whimsical, of what people allowed the medical community to get away with in the past, how they were allowed to treat other humans as nothing more than experiments. And a very good reason why you have to keep a close eye on what we are willing to tolerate as a society when it comes to their "treatments". People actually thought drilling holes in someones skull with mental issues was helpful at one point because they were told that and just believed it. Even though studies showed the opposite. We have similar things taking place today.

Staring at this for so long feels like a fever dream, I’m not hating on the game play but for 50 minutes so far there’s barely a storyline and it’s just her swinging the vorpal blade around and jumping around, while the music makes you not sleepy but not awake either. Remember playing this for the first time on Xbox, I only knew the game by title alone and went in completely blind and beat it within like 3 days. It was such a fun and unforgettable experience. Really hope we get another Alice game in the future 😩

The last 20 minutes of this was absolutely insane. This whole game, and the one before it felt like they were just edgy for the sake of a really interesting horror concept and art style. That last 20 minutes or so not only got far more disturbing than the rest of the game and the previous game combined, but suddenly revealed a meaning and purpose. An English teacher in my high school, absolutely insane in the right ways, spent a good amount of time teaching us that violence is only gratuitous if you don't feel anything. That violence is inherently grotesque and disturbing and that if you don't feel that then it is being used wrong and is unnecessary and offensive. After spending so much time falsely believing that I was in some way weak for being disturbed by something I was merely seeing and trying to numb myself to that, I took in her words and understood them in theory. I think I actually know what she meant now.
I think they are edgy but I wouldn't say it's just for the sake of being edgy. There is good story too over all, and the art style plays into that and vice versa.
Looking at those questions at the 9 hour mark, i knew straight away that the answer to the first question was coffin cause your using it when you come to rest but you never know because your not alive to witness it, question 3's answer was heart as you can be known to break someone's heart meaning their feelings.
