I have worked for Bashas’ for 18 years, and worked at this store for a year and a half from 2004, to 2005. Bashas’ store #50 opened on Wednesday September 23rd, 1987, & closed forever on Sunday October 10th, 2009. The Cooper Village Shopping Center was named after Don Cooper who at the time was the President of Bashas’. He died a few months before this plaza was completed, and before this store was open for business. For this reason Bashas named the plaza in honor of him. The hospital originally planned to turn this plaza into a parking lot, but a 2014 report by the Arizona Republic said they decided to renovate the plaza into a multi-use medical plaza, and offices. The properties were to be connected by a pedestrian breezeway, with the Bashas’ space being the center on the renovated property. The property is still sitting vacant for the last 4 years since the report. This was my most favorite Bashas’ to work at, and it will always have a soft spot in my heart.

That 'mysterious nail lady' is a window cling youll find on every nail salon in the country! They must all shop from the same catalog! Whoever the artist was should be getting royalties ;-)

It almost looks like something Patrick Nagel would have come up with. If you Google 'Patrick Nagel art' and click on the images tab, so many of the pieces are similar to the nail lady.

This was also the ONLY Bashas’ store that had a U.S.P.S. mail counter attached to the customer service desk. It was operated by the stores bookkeeper. The mail & packages were picked up by a U.S.P.S. mail truck everyday at 3pm. The ironic thing is there is a actual U.S.P.S. post office next door from Bashas’. This store also had a certified FTD florist on staff, who would deliver flowers to patients at the hospital.

  • @margaretandersen9914

Also, is anyone else skeeved by the fact that the hospital is storing equipment, especially beds and other things that come in direct contact with patients, in such a decrepit building? Even the "nicest" of the storefronts aren't exactly sanitary.

Texas and Arizona are nice states. I prefer Texas, but lately Mexico is doing much better. Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, Washington State, and Montana should really secede from USA, as District of Criminals is very toxic to all. However, Uncle Scam does get mad when American states want to leave. Many intelligent Americans of all spectrums do leave The States as expats/refugees from Uncle Scam. Too bad freedom minded and/or moderate states do not want to leave Uncle Scam, so people have to move out of The States. I do not trust anyone from District of Criminals and I should know somewhat, I was born inside the beltway. I did live in Maricopa County for 8 years from 1982 to 1990. Phoenix and Scottsdale. Interesting videos and your one video of Paradise Valley Mall was interesting. Looks kind of dead compared to the 1980s. Over and out. Oh lastly, the shopping malls are doing better in Singapore. Canada is doing slightly better, but not much better. It's our monetary system since 1971 that is messing things up everywhere in The States and the world with fiat currency. Nixon Shock of 1971 on August 15, 1971 is interesting history. Out.

    • @bryantint1339

By the way, I prefer Mexico over California. California has very bad economic policy. Arizona was much better on economics and Mexico has better economic policy over California. Oregon is getting to California like, as well. That is why my last American state that I lived in was Washington State. It's a blend of Arizona and California. Much better political and business climate in Washington. Much better real climate too!

I actually have been in that Bashas. My mom was in a nursing home just the other side of Power around 2005 after having a stroke, and so she wouldn't have to eat hospital food for Thanksgiving I picked us both up a turkey dinner at their deli.

It's interesting watching this as a nail technician, cause even though I don't know who the lady is, what they advertised on the other windows is kinda funny to me and typical of older nail salons. Silk Nails, Gel Nails and Crystal nails are all technically the same exact thing. Like theres actually no difference to them at all, besides one might extend the nails, but they're all gel. The acrylic and the Pink & White are literally the exact same as each other, the only difference is Pink & White means french tips done with acrylic, lol, otherwise though they're the exact same.

Diné markets are located on Navajo land, pronounced more like "dee-NAY". One of the complaints I remember getting when I was a cashier was how the Bluebird flour was cheaper at the reservation market.

For some reason, your voice is very soothing to me, and I enjoy having your videos on while I'm working. I wanted to make one observation about your language; I've noticed in recent videos that I hear more "damn," "shit," etc. than in your older stuff. It's sad because I used to watch these with my kids. I'm not saying you need to change, or that I will stop watching, because you're still one of my favorite channels. Just that it doesn't have the same easy listening vibe I used to get, and I can no longer watch it when my little kids are around. Thanks for the videos, it's always interesting to see this stuff documented.

Bashas' Dine (I think it's pronounced di-NAY) is marketed to the Native American community and is mainly in Northern Arizona as far as I know. Possibly including on the Navajo reservation.

That place needs to be demolished. The graffiti on that piller was just stupid and cheesy. Can't wait for the new national retailer video.

It's amazing seeing an abandoned Arizona Property, because it is dry and there are no weeds in the parking lot or anywhere growing. If this was in Illinois, it would be a jungle. Just funny that way. Never heard of Bashas. Is that owned by a bigger corporation or is it on it's own?

You would think an old mall would be a great place to put all the outpatient stuff you have to go to a hospital for, turn it into a giant professional building. Just imagine being able to park close to your physio appointment

In addition to the weird real estate ad rack that is still being used, the USPS mail drop location is super weird. That thing has to be being checked or the usps would have removed it so people didn’t put mail that wouldn’t be delivered in it. Why it hasn’t been removed yet is completely baffling.

Oh man, my first job out of high school was working at this Bashas'. I worked there for around two years in probably 2004-06ish. I don't know what it was about the place, but the new store management people they shuffled in from other stores about a year into my employment there were complete assholes. None of the employee's really liked working there, and the customer base was 90% snow-birds/retired. The business was slow during the hot weather season's. All the surrounding stores would come and go, including a Salvation Army Thrift shop. Once Bashas' closed, the rest of the plaza cleared out with it.

    • @proudofmybowlcut
      @proudofmybowlcut 6 лет назад +1

I live like a mile and a half away from here btw. So I've seen the gradual undoing of this plaza over the years. I even ate at that Chinese buffet once before the employees were caught taking produce out of the Bashas' dumpsters to put in their restaurant. I took my breaks on those benches outside when the weather was good enough. I brought the shopping carts into those block windowed areas just inside. The reason there were so many hair/nail spots there is because different storefronts would close at different periods. Then a new one would open up at a different part of the plaza. Not sure why other than maybe the space they wanted/needed. I remember when those shoe and clothing stores had merchandise in their front displays. But the old people from Leisure World across the street would rather buy their stuff at Wal-Mart up the road than pay a premium for their Easter slacks or whatever they happen to want.

They could always gut it and refit the shell as a hospital wing. It would be cheaper than building a new wing from scratch.

Since a hospital owns this, the best for this center is to knock it down and make into a medical center.

Hey I live locally here in Mesa and have caught a few of your videos. This particular one interests me because I go sometimes for doctor's appointments in the Banner Heart Hospital and recently had a pacemaker installed (in me) there. Never knew Banner acquired this mall and is using it to store equipment. I didn't see you tape the Dairy Queen on the outparcel on the corner of the property, I think that is part of the mall also.

Idk if anyone has stated but Bashas dine was supposed to be more catered to the Navajo nation, selling some more specialized products and from what I can glean the signage inside is supposed to be in English as well as Navajo. also thanks for the movie reference, most of the time i hear references its to the first movie, not the new batch second movie
