If anybody is thinking about making this sweater all I have to say is you so have to make this sweater! I am proud to say I have finally completed my first knit sweater that I actually can wear lol. This pattern was a dream to work with I would so recommend making this sweater to anyone. And the fit of the sweater is absolutely wonderful since it has the positive ease. I had so much much fun making this sweater as soon as I got done making my sweater, I casted right back on to make my little sister this sweater. Also the sweater only took me about 5 days to make
Thank you for this!!! I learned 6 years ago to knit hats off YT. I gave up and picked up Crochet there after. In 2017 xmas i decided to buy Chiagoo needles and challenge myself to learn to knit. Ive been wanting to make a sweater but im a visual learner, cant read patterns. No videos make sense to me as a beginner and you have made me so craftin' happy! Thanks again for the tutorial
Thank you so much...i was always lost whenever i sought to learn how to make a raglan sweater. This video has clarified a lot of my doubts and removed my confusion..I hope to make one raglan pullover for myself.soon..
I started my sweater yesterday. I'm currently working on the raglan increases. My sister and I are doing a knit-along, even though we live in two different states. She's a newer knitter (and advanced crocheter), and I have been actively knitting for several years. With that said, I've only knit one sweater, which was a baby cardigan. I bought the PDF pattern, and I have to say that I am seriously impressed with how well you've set it up and with the clarity of the directions and photographs. Honestly, I think you are underselling yourself! This pattern is worth more than what you are charging! I hope it does well for you. I've knit a few of your patterns (brioche baby blanket, convertible diamond wrap) and I really enjoy your tutorials. :) My sister made your corner to corner moss stitch crocheted afghan for my daughter and it is beautiful. Thank you!
Love this. I like how you explain the magic loop. I’m very new to knitting; ( just started less than 2 mo ago) and the magic loop seems cumbersome, but probably just need to get used to it! 😊 thanks.
Very clear to understand perhaps in the future you can post a bottom up tutorial hard to find on line that is as clear ( meaning from beg step by step like yours . Thanks for sharing
I'm really excited to be starting this project very soon! Apologies if this question has already been asked. I need to do a gauge swatch. Do I do this flat or in the round?? Thank you 😊
This is a beautiful sweater ! Your tutorial is great ! The yarn used is now discontinued:-( can you please give me ideas of comparison yarn ? Thanks so much
Hi. Yes, this yarn is discontinued. If you would like a good substitute, I would recommend KnitPicks Brava Bulky. I have used it many times and am happy with the quality. You can find this yarn here: shrsl.com/45oki If you don't want to use Brava Bulky, you can substitute any other synthetic or animal fiber yarn that is in the #5 Bulky weight category. I hope this helps!
@YayForYarn Thank you so much !! Price of suggested yarn is amazing luv it. I'm off to grab me some for sure. Question...I have hue and me bulky, ha e you ever used it and would it also work. This will be my 2nd knit sweater ever. Really looking forward to trying your pattern. Your tutorial is wonderful and couldn't do this without you by my side !
I have used Hue and Me bulky in a sweater before, and it seemed a bit more heavy and thick than Color Made Easy or KnitPicks Brava. You could try gauge swatching with Hue and Me to see if you can match the pattern gauge with that yarn, and to see if you like the feel of the fabric. My guess is that the Brava yarn would be more suited to this pattern, but Hue and Me could possibly work as well.
I am very interested in making this, but not finding the information on your website where the pattern is written for what 'the dotty pattern' is so that I can make a gauge swatch. Is it one row of knit stitches, then next row k1, p1 all across to the end, next row knit all stitches, next row p1, k1 all across, then last row knit all across - then repeat all rows in the same sequence? In wait for your reply (no rush) to at least begin the swatch to see if I can meet the gauge. Thank you! Beautiful, beautiful sweater and look forward to making an attempt to making one as well! ☺️👍
Hi Eleanor. Yes, those instructions would be correct as long as you are knitting the gauge swatch in the round (which is ideal). I would suggest casting on in the round to make a tube that is at least 4" wide, and then knitting the rounds as you described. If you really wanted to knit the gauge swatch back and forth (purling the wrong-side rows), you could do that, but it may slightly affect your row gauge, as some knitters have slightly different tension while purling. I hope this helps!
Great tutorial for a beginner. Question: if I only did knit stitches in the round to create stockinette would that cause any problems. This will be my first sweater and would like to skip the purl this time.
@@YayForYarn Ty so much for replying. I couldn't find that yarn or a comparable one at Michael's so the dots won't show up the same anyway. I'm still doing the ribbing normal though.
Hi yay When you move marker from one needle to the other in magic loop .....that means the row is completed? Do you have a magic loop tutorial? I have watched tons of videos on RUclips and none are using a marker and I really need to see it to get it. Frustrated in the desert 🏜
In this pattern, there are several stitch markers used. Four of them mark the points where you are supposed to increase, and the fifth one is to mark the end of the round. It is best if the end-of-round marker is a different color than the other four so you know which one it is. And yes, when you slip the end-of-round marker to the right needle, that means you've reached the end of the round. I don't have a video specifically on the magic loop yet, but I hope this helps!
Love your tutorials and you have such a relaxing voice. Question, I haven't watched the entire video yet, so pardon me if I am ahead of you.. Why is that you didn't do a gauge swatch first? I have been told over and over to do one, as the sizing could be thrown off due to tension variables. Please advise, thanks.
Hi! Yes, you are right, you should always make a gauge swatch before starting a project. I do this for every project, I just don't usually show my swatch in the video. :) I hope this helps!
Great video! Can't wait to make this. If I wanted to make this with #4 yarn instead of 5, but same needles, how much bigger should I make it? Like if I wanted a medium sweater, should I follow the large instructions? Thanks!
Hi Daria. I recommend using a #5 yarn, but you can try a #4 if you want. Just know that it might not work on the first try. :) You could try making the next size up, if your gauge with the same size needle is only slightly smaller. A #4 yarn, if worked on the large needles, will produce a more open fabric. Once you have finished the yoke portion and separated the sleeve stitches onto waste yarn, try it on and see if you like the fit. The "corners" of the piece should be able to meet at the underarm comfortably. I hope this helps!
You could try doing a 1x1 rib instead, and see if you like how it looks. It wouldn't cause any issues for the rest of the pattern as far as stitch counts. If you try it, let me know how it goes!
Another question did you wash it and if so how do you prevent it from shrinking? Also I showed this to a friend of mine and she said it looks small and I’m making an extra large for myself so I’m confused
Hi Kaleigh. How you wash a hand knit sweater will depend greatly on the yarn you are using. For instance, my sample sweater was made from acrylic yarn. Many acrylic yarns can be machine washed and dried. However, a wool yarn would felt and shrink if it was machine washed. So you'll need to follow the care instructions on your yarn label to determine how to wash your finished sweater. As for the size of the sweater, did you check your gauge before beginning? If you made sure your gauge matches the pattern gauge, then the finished sweater will turn out to match the finished measurements in the pattern. Sometimes a top-down sweater can look a little smaller than it is when it is still on the needles. If your gauge is correct, then you don't need to worry about it turning out too small. Once you make it to the lower portion of the body of the sweater, and you are able to lay the bust area of the sweater out flat without it bunching up on the needles, you could measure it to confirm that it is turning out the correct size. I hope this helps!
Just bought the pattern I have a question how come the number of stitches for the neck go down for bigger size ? « Co 64 (68, 72, 68, 64, 68, 72, 68, 72) sts » this what it is written Can you explain how the 2X (64) has the same amount of stitches then the XS Merci!
Hi Sonya. The reason for the different stitch counts at the neck edge is to make the increase rounds that follow work out correctly. If all sizes started with the same number, or if they only increased in number with the sizes, the increase portion of the pattern with the raglan shaping would have to be way more complex in this stitch pattern. When shaping in a stitch pattern, the instructions can get very complex when writing for this many sizes. The cast on stitches are designed in this way to keep the shaping portion as simple and easy to follow as possible. The different cast on numbers only create a slight difference in the circumference of the neck edge, and since the fit of the sweater is dependent on the raglan shaping portion, the slight variation in neck edge circumference does not affect how the sweater fits. I hope this helps!
Hi Question ....after doing round 1 ....if I'm making a size medium, do I skip round 2 and go to round 4 as it says round 4 is for size medium ??? Or do I just do rounds 1 thru 6 ? Thank you !!
Hi. If you're in the "Increase Round" section, Rounds 2, 4, and 6 each have 2 versions of the instructions. For instance, there is a version of Round 2 for sizes Extra Small, Medium, Extra Large, 3X, and 5X, and another version of Round 2 for sizes Small, Large, 2X, and 4X. So you'll follow the first set of Round 2 instructions that applies to the size Medium, and ignore the Round 2 instructions that do not apply to the size Medium. The same goes for Rounds 4 and 6 of the Increase Rounds. Does that make sense? I hope this helps!
Yes !! I get it :-) I'm working on my 2nd sweater . I have enough yarn and wanna practice magic loop and knitting sleeves. Both being new to me. Your pattern and tutorial are perfect. Your voice is calming and I sure needed calming lol Thx yay for all your help
Hi Rose! I do show thumb purling in my continental knitting video, because I think it is the easiest method for those who are transitioning from English style knitting. However, I have since created my own knitting style, a variation of continental knitting, that is more ergonomic, requiring less motion in the hands and wrists. I don't have a RUclips video on this, but I am creating a video course for my Ergonomic Speed Knitting Method. If you'd like more info, you can sign up for the waitlist here: yay-for-yarn.ck.page/47cd60e5e9 I hope this helps!
@@YayForYarn ooooo I am wanting to learn continental style. I have taught myself English style but it can be exhausting for me and I get painful hands as well (due to medical issues) I haven’t been knitting for that long so I might pick it up easier.

Hi Tina. Yes, you are welcome to adjust the pattern however you like for your own personal use. It is totally okay to make adjustments or alterations to a pattern to use for your own projects. I hope this helps!
Hi Kerry. You could use a make 1 left and make 1 right if you prefer. Or, if you'd like to keep trying the lifted increases, I have a dedicated video showing those in more detail here: ruclips.net/video/YkZtYhvHdSU/видео.html I hope this helps!
Hi. The number of stitches to cast on for each size is in the free written pattern, which you can view by visiting the first link in the video description. I hope this helps!
Hi Lisa! This pattern is ideal for someone who is comfortable with pattern reading, and familiar with increasing, decreasing, and working in the round with the magic loop. The knitting itself is not using advanced stitches or techniques, but the pattern does have a lot of instructions. For this reason, I chose to mark this pullover as an intermediate project. I would suggest reading through the instructions to see if you feel comfortable following the pattern. If you aren't sure whether you're ready for this project yet, or if this is your first garment project, I would suggest trying a more simple pattern first, like this one ruclips.net/video/FXvBvqEgFr8/видео.html or this one. ruclips.net/video/VvTexyFUTLQ/видео.html Both of those garments are simpler in their construction, and are easier to follow for a beginner or first-time garment knitter. If you are an absolute beginner, and would like to get started with pattern reading, you might try something like this ruclips.net/video/w-OYMix6bPI/видео.html this, ruclips.net/video/0wyM-HqJAsw/видео.html or this, ruclips.net/video/O3pk7mxruJY/видео.html all of which are designed for absolute beginners. I hope this helps!

@@YayForYarn thank you for responding to my question 😊 yes...the info you provided is helpful. Thank you again and hope you have a blessed and fantabulous day 💖😊
Hi Adelia. The only Round 13 in this pattern is in Decrease Section 1 of the sleeve. (See the written instructions here: yayforyarn.com/dotty-pullover/ ) You'll be following the series of rounds in the written instructions according to whichever size you are making until you have completed the sleeve rounds for the size you are making. Then, to finish the sleeve, you'll work the instructions for the cuff ribbing at the end. Does that help? Please let me know if you have any more questions. Happy Yarning!
any tips for raglan round (top down) decrease part? when i get to the armholes and the decrease lines are not matching, they goes round too ( instead of this / \, they go like this / /) i dont know what im doing wrong. pls help. im lost 🥴
Hi. Do you have previous experience with the SSK stitch? If you're new to this decrease stitch, it may be that your SSK is coming out backwards. The one that slants this way "/" is the knit 2 together, and the SSK is the one that slants this way "\". If you have the SSK backwards, it will slant the same direction as the K2tog. I would suggest looking at a few tutorials for the SSK stitch to see if you're doing any of the steps differently. I would guess that after you have slipped both stitches as if to knit onto the right needle, you may be placing them back on the left needle to knit them together in the wrong direction. Just search for "how to knit SSK", and Google or RUclips should pull up some good step-by-step tutorials. If you're still stuck after that, just let me know and I will be happy to help you with this stitch. I hope this helps!
@@YayForYarn thank you so much for your help, im very new to knitting.. it’s my first trying out a knit project.. it turns out im increasing on the left more that’s why.. it’s a long journey for me 😅
Hi. This pattern can not be converted to a different neckline style without rewriting the entire pattern from scratch. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
Hi, I was hoping you could help.. I'm confused by the beginning of the tutorial when you say your magic looping. What your doing is something in-between magic loop and traveling loop and I can't figure it out. Magic loop is dividing the stitches onto both needle tips with the tips facing the right, you then pull the back needle out so those stitches are on the cable, and you knit the front needle, creating TWO loops of cable, one on the right side of the work and one on the left. You then knit across, rotate the work so the needle tips are facing the right again, pull the back needle out and knit the front needle. Traveling loop is what your doing when you re-adjust the stitches and you loop the cable over your right hand. In traveling loop you only have one loop and it travels around the work and when you get to the last stitch on the loop, the loop comes out and you have to form a new one by pushing the stitches onto the left needle and pulling the right needle out and looping it around your right hand, but how you joined in the round in the beginning is not how you set up for magic loop or traveling loop.
Hi Ashley! What I was doing in the tutorial might be somewhat of a combination of those two methods, as there comes a point in the pattern where there are enough stitches to fill the circular needle, so looping the cable is no longer necessary. The sweater sleeve has a lot more cable length to get out of the way, since the cable is way longer than the sleeve circumference. Whether you keep the loops in the same place every time or whether you move it around as you go doesn't really make any difference. To my knowledge, there isn't any difference in the effect on the finished fabric. The point is to loop some cable length out of the way so that you can knit the smaller circumference, so you can loop the cable out of the way however you like. :) I hope this helps!
@@YayForYarn Thanks for your reply! I figured it out and am now working on the sleeves. In the beginning I couldn't figure out how you created the loop as when magic looping it forms a u shape with the cable and doesn't allow the stitches to move around. I slowed the video down and saw that you twist the cable in the back towards you as you pull it through the stitches which criss crosses the cable to form the loop you had. You taught me a new technique that combines both traveling loop and magic loop! Beautiful pattern and very well written. Im really enjoying knitting it, Thanks!
Hi. The needle size and length is mentioned in the written instructions, which you can view at the first link in the video description. You will need a US Size 11 (8.0 mm) Circular Knitting Needle, at least 32” long (but no longer than the finished bust measurement of the sweater for the size you’re making).

Hi Sonya. The reason for the different stitch counts at the neck edge is to make the increase rounds that follow work out correctly. Hi
Question ....after doing round 1 ....if I'm making a size medium, do I skip round 2 and go to round 4 as it says round 4 is for size medium ???
Or do I just do rounds 1 thru 6 ?

Yes !! I get it :-)
I'm working on my 2nd sweater . I have enough yarn and wanna practice magic loop and knitting sleeves. Both being new to me.
Your pattern and tutorial are perfect. Your voice is calming and I sure needed calming lol
Thx yay for all your help
Thank you. Love the sweater, why no thumb purling? I taught myself from your tutorial
Yay For Yarn thank you so much. I signed up for your class
@@YayForYarn ooooo I am wanting to learn continental style. I have taught myself English style but it can be exhausting for me and I get painful hands as well (due to medical issues) I haven’t been knitting for that long so I might pick it up easier.
What yarn would you recommend the yarn is discontinued
do you have a crochet version of this?
I don't have a crochet version of this sweater at the moment, but I would like to make more raglan style sweaters in the future. :)
How are you going to increase the number of stitches for a medium size or a large size pull over? Please explain
Hi. The precise instructions for the other sizes are given in the free version of the written pattern, which you can view by visiting the first link in the video description. I hope this helps!
Does anyone here have a good replacement yarn to use in this sweater? The yarn she used is discontinued which is disheartening because I wanted to make this one
Hi Bri.. long time..
i had started watching this when it came out but didn't finish.. just did YAY!! soooo..... ok i live in the desert and bulky just doesn't help here.. thought i would use a cotton/bamboo or bamboo/silk 4 instead.. also not a fan of ribbed edges so maybe i need to adjust this.. i guess I'm hoping u don't mind.. thought i would ask for ur blessing.. don't want to knowingly do this with knowing it's not my pattern.. not that i would sell or anything.. i don't post patterns.. however, maybe i should pass on what i have for u to publish.. i have no one in the extended fam that crochets nor knits.. i have no one to give them to.. just a thought.. anyway i would know i adjusted ur pattern and i don't feel comfortable.. thought i would ask..
.... in closing, hope ur doing well.. hope ur rocking in the yarn world.. i love ur attention to detail sis!! i think ur due to have a book published.. nobody i mean nobody has ur patterns and style.. it's unique simple classic.. but extremly gorgeous.. think about it.. yes it's me that asked on insta private about where u sell ur patterns some time back.. love ya hun..

Hi Tina. Yes, you are welcome to adjust the pattern however you like for your own personal use. It is totally okay to make adjustments or alterations to a pattern to use for your own projects. I hope this helps!
Is there another way we can increase for the raglan increases? I’m having trouble with the pickup increases. All my stitches look twisted.
Hi Kerry. You could use a make 1 left and make 1 right if you prefer. Or, if you'd like to keep trying the lifted increases, I have a dedicated video showing those in more detail here: ruclips.net/video/YkZtYhvHdSU/видео.html I hope this helps!
@@YayForYarn thank you. I should have checked out that video before. It really helped!
Can you please guide how many stiches to cast on for L size?
Hi. The number of stitches to cast on for each size is in the free written pattern, which you can view by visiting the first link in the video description. I hope this helps!
@@YayForYarn Thanks a lot.
Is this a good one to start with if you have NO idea what you are doing? :}
Hi can you tell how many situations too start
Hi. All of the stitch counts and information needed to make all 9 sizes are given in the written pattern. You can view the free version of the written pattern by visiting the first link in the video description. I hope this helps!
I am going to knit this sweater but I have a question....this yarn has been discontinued. Will any bulky size 5 yarn work with pattern???
Yes, you can use any #5 bulky weight yarn you like with this pattern, as long as you match the pattern gauge. I hope this helps!
@@YayForYarn thank you for responding to my question 😊 yes...the info you provided is helpful. Thank you again and hope you have a blessed and fantabulous day 💖😊
What is round 13 and the rest of the rounds until you reach up to the ribbing section
@@YayForYarn Ok thank you I saw the pattern now
any tips for raglan round (top down) decrease part? when i get to the armholes and the decrease lines are not matching, they goes round too
( instead of this / \, they go like this / /) i dont know what im doing wrong. pls help. im lost 🥴
@@YayForYarn thank you so much for your help, im very new to knitting.. it’s my first trying out a knit project.. it turns out im increasing on the left more that’s why.. it’s a long journey for me 😅
How can I convert to a small boat neck instead of crew neck? Please helpthanks
Hi. This pattern can not be converted to a different neckline style without rewriting the entire pattern from scratch. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
How long did this take you to make?
I don't remember how long it took to make. :)
new, like to know about your sweater
If you don't have stitch markers, you can use colored bread ties.
1 sec you did not mention what is the size of the needle and how long the needle is
Hi. The needle size and length is mentioned in the written instructions, which you can view at the first link in the video description. You will need a US Size 11 (8.0 mm) Circular Knitting Needle, at least 32” long (but no longer than the finished bust measurement of the sweater for the size you’re making).
It is in the video, i heard that info ;)
Don't you have this in crochet it's very lovely
Hi Julia! I don't have a crochet version of this sweater yet, but if I create one, I'll definitely post it on my channel. :)
@@YayForYarn please do one I'd love to do a sweater like that .
