He tries to release Obi-wan from the guilt. Because Vader exactly knows he can blame noone but himself for all this. And he hates himself for the rest of his life.

Its not just that he hates himself. He genuinely doesnt want to give Obi any kind of sense of connection/entitlement to him. And he even goes on to say he himself killed Anakin to dawn Vader so in his eyes hes ascended, not failed.

Personally I took it as a Vader telling that to himself, to re-iterate to himself that HE killed Padame, HE betrayed the Jedi, HE destroyed the good in his life and created the hell he lives in. I took it as Vader accepting what he did as a way to fully accept the Dark Side and his living hell; otherwise, if it was Obi Wan who failed him them Vader's current living hell would be almost impossible to bear. I gather this from the comics.

Hell, he should have killed him at Mustafar out of sheer human compassion (never mind the Jedi code, anyone else with an ounce of humanity would have opted for a clean mercy kill over what at that point seemed like a wholly miserable way to die.).

You can decipher it by the lighting of the lightsaber.
When Obi-Wan sliced Darth Vader’s helmet, it was red and blue; indicating who Obi-Wan sees (Anakin) but it was Vader.
When Obi-Wan began to apologize to Anakin (bc that’s who he sees), the lighting is more blue than red, signifying that the person responding to Obi-Wan was indeed Anakin.
After that, the man in the suit is more red than blue, revealing who he became, who killed Anakin…Darth Vader.
      Then when Obi-Wan leaves,
We see a moment where there was no red nor blue; this I think means that at that instance there was a moment that whatever was left of Anakin has faded, which finally transitions to engulfing red as Obi-WAN leaves him after being said that Anakin is truly dead and addresses him as Darth Vader. And thus he became fully Darth Vader.
P.S this is my take from this scene, idk if it’s accurate 🤷‍♀️ or digging too much

I think the most heart wrenching thing for me is the line from Kenobi “I’m sorry Anakin, for all of it.” Because Obi Wan isn’t just apologizing for Mustafar, for Padme, and his suffering inside the suit. He’s apologizing for, as he says, EVERYTHING. Every little thing, every wrong done to Anakin by the republic, the council, and obi wan himself that lead up to this moment. Obi wan knows exactly what lead to Anakin’s fall to the dark side, he’s had plenty of time to think about it.. and he’s apologizing for it all, but Anakin is gone.
    Vader is what remains.

@@TomAS-wm5mn that's one of the things I like most about this and I feel like it reinforces the poignancy of Vaders redemption in Return of the Jedi. Vader knew, and freely acknowledged he and he alone bore the blame for the horrors he inflicted. He was not forced into it, he chose it. Out of desperation and fear perhaps, but none the less: He CHOSE it. His evil came from within, as did his eventual turning away from it when he chose to save his sons life at the cost of his own.

@@ShadowFhoenix in a way in my own opinion anakin falling was a way to remove the complacency and purify the rot that was slowly creeping into the "light" side of the force, something that was VERY evident if someone like Sideous could hide in plain sight even though there were thousands of jedi and a whole council of the best of them, and it all being a somewhat deserved downfall that has been the pattern of every ripple and wave of the tides of the Force, this was echoed in the KOTOR era, then again in the TOR era, so it is in the High Republic, the agents of the light and dark side clash, the light side triumphs then starts to grow complacent whereas the dark side would stab when the light is most corpulent and corrupt, the agents of light get steamrolled, and the brightest of the light survives to emergently vanquish the remaining dark,

    • @carlosadeleon

It's a very human moment. Obi-wan has been carrying his guilt about Anakin for a long time here. He feels he let his master down, he let his friend down, and he's doomed the galaxy. Because of something he knows to be a core part of himself (he can't kill his best friend Anakin) but knows, from a tactical, real-world, practical view, has to be done. And so, he has come to hate and regret the part of himself that he sees as most himself.
I spent some time figuring out what Obi-wan is apologizing for, but then the line says "for everything."; Obi-wan is apologizing for his entire life, it feels like. For becoming a Jedi, and failing. For finding Anakin, and losing him. For being the reason why Anakin met Padme, for teaching Anakin how to use the Force, and on and on. The depth of regret is what we hear in McGregor's lines - the birth of Darth Vader broke two men.
But then Darth Vader kind of takes it from him, by reminding him (as so often we need to be reminded), that it's not always all about us. Obi-wan was there, but Anakin's fall from grace was not Obi-wan's fault. Anakin made his own choices, killed himself, is doing his own thing. And though that doesn't make Obi-wan feel better, it does allow him to move on - which is why I think that in Episode IV, Ben Kenobi is so mattered of fact about how Darth Vader killed Anakin Skywalker. Because that has become a truth to him, and a truth he needed to understand to get through his own guilt and regret.
It's the story Obiwan told himself, and I think it's true but better than true. It's also what Obi-wan needed to believe. I think this series does a great job; even though it doesn't tell us much new about the world, helps fill in what is going on in Obi-wan's head and that has such a great impact on the entire saga.

No windu played a very small part of it. Kenobi was by a part larger in his fall. Obi Wan failed Anakin but how they did their training. Anakin needed a teacher that wasn't so by the book like obi wan was. He needed someone who could and be strict when needed and wasn't always the father or big brother
Obi Wans failure to Anakin is ironically in no way his own misdoing simply the wrong style of teacher for what Anakin needed. If Qui Gon had survived Anakin would not of Fallen. Had Dooku taught Anakin, and not let Qui Gons death sway him to the dark side, Anakin would not of Fallen.

In the case of storyboarding and storytelling, it holds up. But in execution, they both feel terribly out of practice XD. The're slow, their spins look clumsy and a lot of the decisions(Aka pummeling Vader with rocks only to have them do absolutely nothing) feels like they were done for empty spectacle. They both acted their asses off and did amazing on the story beats but the actual fight felt lackluster, especially compared to the OT and Sequel trilogy.
Still leagues better then the new trilogy due to the emotional weight though.
