  • Yamaha MODX Montage Analog Style Melodic Techno Trance House Melodies are demonstrating the power of this sample and fm based synth. Most of these sounds are made from scratch using the sample function of the synthesizer. The arpeggios were then selected from literally thousands.
    In yamaha terms the oscillators are called elements or in short elem. Per part you can have 8 elements with its own filter, lfo and other modulation sources. In total you can have 16 parts with a total polyphony of 128 notes for the sample engine and 64 notes for the FMX engine.

      I made these sounds myself. The MODX is very powerful. Per part you have 8 elements which function as oscillators. In most of these sound I used 3 basic waveforms, mostly a saw wave. Then the sounds were further tweaked with some filtering and insert effects. Did you receive your modx yet? There are lots of cool sounds in there and very suitable for trance and techno. I love the deep dive and make them myself mostly. Am thinking of creating a pack but don’t have a lot of time this month to do so :)

    Hello, great video and great sounds. I want buy a Roland FA06 or a Yamaha Modx6. Which is better for Ambient / Electronic Sounds? I like your arpeggiator sounds.

    • @Expectaz
      @Expectaz  3 года назад +1

      I’m not really familiar with the Roland, but I see it’s a little older than the MODX. I know that the MODX can do a lot. You have 8 elements(oscillators) per channel that can contain single cycle waves as saw, square etc but also pianos and strings. Combine that with the motion sequencer lanes to automate parameters and you’re golden. I would listen to a lot of videos, for the modx I like the ones from Dom Sigalas, he’s amazing. There are also a lot of keyboard players that play covers, but that’s a different use of the modx

    How does the Modx compare to the Virus Ti regarding sound design when comparing these kinds of sounds? Are they comparable?

    • @Expectaz
      @Expectaz  4 года назад +1

      The Virus is more of a knobby synth, but the modx has way more effects, oscillators(8 per part), modulation and filter per oscillator, waveforms, arpeggios and polyphony. You need the touchscreen to do the sounddesign but once you know your way it’s really amazing. From a technical perspective the modx beats the virus on every point except the number of knobs. Soundwise I think they’re both great and sound great to me.

    • @HansuMyura
      @HansuMyura 4 года назад

      @@Expectaz Thanks for your explanation! Lately I've been diving (more) into sound design on the Virus TI and the further I go, I find it's not a very deep synth at all (like "impossible to learn"). It has plenty of features, no doubt about that, and it always made me feel a bit overwhelmed. But it's a fairly easy-to-understand synth with decent effects. Don't get me wrong, I really like the possibilities and sound of the Virus, especially what is possible with the wavetable, grain and formant oscillator modes. Maybe I'm finally starting to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the Virus TI. :)

    Structured sound design is not possible with this crap, named FM synthesis. A 40 year old technique, invented because of special reasons. Nostalgia... DX-times... some people cant let go those times, when plugging 275 cables into 674 holes. But despite Yamaha's old fashioned machines, here we call this "granny-bags", they have no JMJ sounds onboard. A pioneer with countless cables and wholes. Noone comes along with FM-X, those "instructors" even mention this problem... freaks in their special bubble. Modern music, modern techno is made a different way and on laptops and sounds a galaxy better. This machine here is a waste of time and money.
    Every free softsynth destroys this FM-X. By easy and systematic construction and first of all: quality of results. Apropos... the supersaws in the MODX are the worst on earth. Roland invented it... buy aRoland for good electronic sounds. Yamaha never heard of deep frequencies. Everything is crying. If filtered, the volume is gone. Ridiculous.
    Elements are nor operators nor modulators or anything like that. They are samples. In former times we called such boxes "expander" and not "Synthesizer". And because of the above mentioned, the MODX is only useful as a rompler...and used as that by the community... or as a blinking epiano. 8 sample-layering... layering at all... nonsense. Only used for their disturbing creations of pianos...or 5 parts for a paded piano. Crazy. I only use 3 elements with the same ( same kind) sound to enrich. Trial of "unison" via elements... ridiculous. Softsynth: one mouseclick.
    16 parts are only available via MIDI. The limit is 8. But avarage synthi-players only need one...but a rack with 45 machines. I play all 16 via MIDI-Hack, which is not recommended by Yamaha. I wonder why not. But I do serious music, complete arrangements.
    In fact this machine is absolutely senseless the way it is generally used. MIDI keyboard + Softsyth + DAW... cheaper, easier, better.
    Did I mention those many faults inside?... which Yamaha never fixes! ... instead new models. Money rules the world... not quality.
