I’d reboot the Bond IP and set the first one in 1950. Make him a Cold War era agent with WWII military intelligence experience background. I’m sure there’s a lot of information about how things worked in the 1950s that wasn’t available to the public in previous decades that could be used to give new movies a lot of depth and touches of realism. Really go back to the roots of the Bond novels, Ian Fleming and his inspirations. Forget about trying to make the character work for 2020s sensibilities of our tiresome contemporary world. That is what would represent actual escapism for viewers in 2025. Amazon would want to derail the otherwise scrupulous attention to period details of modern movies through the obsession with high levels of historically inaccurate ‘colour blind casting’.
Meh, who'd care about that? The fun part about the franchise was always that the character as well as the villains were seamlessly adapted to the changing times.
To be fair, one of the advantages of a 'present day' Bond is that you don't have to set up hugely expensive film sets. You can set it anywhere. And you can even make it participatory in a sense, because when you film it in a major city people can say, "Remember when Bond blew up a helicopter here?". These are all good things. But I do completely agree with you that spycraft is rather different now than it was in the 50's. A super-spy just can't be quite the same character in an era of cellphones and computers.
Liked ' The Man from Uncle' and Cavils work in it. Seeing Cavil take over as Bond for a couple of films or more would be a good option. As always depends on the writers.
Cavil could be and would be great. He would be like when Brosnan took it over in 1995, A charismatic, well liked actor who had the perfect look for a filmic Bond, and could do action, charm and sophistication and also who can act. Unlike Craig and his miserable pouty guff. Cavil also gets it and would not mouth off and complain about the role off screen, he would be glad to be there. He is perfect for the role. But he wont get it as he is white. The should have cast him in it after Spectre and retired Craig there...All they need to do to fix this, is just forget the Craig era. Cast a new Bond, and just go back to what works. Forget linking stuff and backstory and woke. Get some good scripts and make it a stand alone action thrill ride, like it used to be. Which is what the Impossible Mission films have become, they are more like Bond than anything in the Craig era ever was...and more entertaining.
Cavill is oversaturated now for Bond. It's a sad state of affairs that there's nobody with a relatively limited previous CV that has the chops to be given a chance.
An old Bond with Brosnan is just "The November Man", honestly. That even had the same Bond girl from Quantum of Solace. And it's a decade old now, so back when Brosnan was physically able to do that sort of role still.
I get the need and want to cast Cavill for 007, but I honestly do not think Cavill fits James Bond. He would most definitely make a great spy character, or even a secondary character in a James Bond film as another spy, but Cavill just doesn't scream 007 to me when you look at all the other iterations of Jame Bond that have been had in the past (except for Daniel Craig of course).
Continuity of time is cancer to Bond, continuity of the framework is what keeps it alive eg there's always a Bond, an M, a Q, a Moneypenny etc, ostensibly they're the same person from movie to movie but we don't pin past events to a timeline so the actors can be swapped out, it worked for decades until they messed with it
That’s the true legacy of the Craig era. It showed Bond works best as a standalone stories which is why Casino Royale and Skyfall are considered the best movies from that era.
I still say and want Henry Cavill to he James Bond. The guy is perfect for the roll. He has charmed, charisma, class, he can do action scenes. Plus he been screwed out of so many roles thanks to Hollywood and entertainment industry. It a perfect role for him and many people love to see that
He did other spy films too, like Argylle. Man's really out there training himself for the role but won't get chosen just because producers have "someone else in mind".
The first Kingsmen movie was pretty good and proves that the concept of Bond still could work very well. It had an authentic formula for introducing a new, young Bond by a seasoned vet ready to call it quits.
Bonds father was Scottish, his mother was Swedish. As great an actor Idris Elba is, the son of that pairing he does not fit. Unless he plans to do a reverse Tropic Thunder.
He sure would. But I would prefer to see him as an "M" type character. The man who send Bond out on his mission, and tells him what to do. Like Marshall Pentecost in 'Pacific Rim'. He was so damn good in that.
I want them to remake the entire Bond series set in the 1950s/60s and just follow the canonical order of the books, which tell a complete narrative; Casino Royale Live and Let Die Moonraker Diamonds Are Forever From Russia, with Love Dr. No Goldfinger For Your Eyes Only Thunderball The Spy Who Loved Me On Her Majesty's Secret Service You Only Live Twice

Pierce Brosnan was the last James Bond. The Craig era was a deconstruction and assassination of Bond. As a life long fan I'm glad we have 50 years worth of movies, books, games, songs and comics.
Finally someone who's seen the elephant in the room. Skyfall was one of the first postmodernist self-deprecation fests long before The Last Jedi or Dial of Destiny, yet we were all so thirsty for new Bond movies after the even more dreadful QoS.
They should make a film about James Bond literally as an agent in a field... 007 working along day after day as an agricultural agent. Just because the DEI hires never read Bond-books or saw the movies and didn't understand what "agent in the field" means.
I think Disparu nailed it. The current quality of writers and woke ideology prevalent in the movie industry means I don't want them to pick a new bond because I know they will make a mess of it. What I reckon you would see would be a new bond picked, and a rehash of old bond movies.
Kind of how I feel about the new tron, or titanfall 3, or whichever marvel thing might be coming out. The entertainment industry is too fucked to make anything good rn.
9:00. Bring Pierce Brosnan back and do the original plot from The Spy Who Loved Me. Not what the 70s version gave us. The alternative is what Chris Nolan was rumored to want to do. 1951. James Bond coming out of WWII and working for the newly minted Mi6. Do the original books and short stories. No modern sensibilities. Make them very much authentic and period specific.
Setting it in eternally in the 50s and 60s is the only way to make it work, but I’m not convinced that Hollywood even knows how to make movies anymore. I tried watching the Fall Guy last night, which was quite well reviewed and was shocked at just how awful it was. Despite being written by a 49 year old man, it seemed like something a 28 year old woman would write using AI. This is why I mainly watch old movies now.
Sean Connery established the character of Bond. Roger Moore learned how to play Bond by playing Simon Templar in The Saint. Pierce Brosnan learned how to play Bond by playing Remington Steele. That's why they were so good at it.
I didn’t care for the Brosnan films other than Goldeneye, and even that film has infuriating women’s lib and M insulting Bond. Casino Royale was fantastic, but Craig’s portrayal of Bond got progressively worse with every movie. By the end he’s a depressed metrosexual male feminist in an incoherent movie with bad CGI. The last unadulterated old school Bond film was License to Kill, which was incidentally the last film that did not have barbara broccoli’s involvement. Bond is my favorite film franchise by far, but I think it’s dead. Barring a complete overhaul and shift back to the origins, I’m out.
Sean Connery was the perfect James Bond. Good casting and respecting the source material is almost always a recipe for success. There was actually a very successful James Bond comedy/parody that lasted 5 seasons, called Get Smart. Good comedic writing and an excellent cast worked really well.
Except he wasnt accurate whatsoever. On her majestys secret service is still the most accurate page to screen bond film other than casino royale. Even in casino royale they toned down his character to make him more relatable/likeable. He’s a terrible person in the first novel, theres almost nothing likable about him. Fleming only gave him a sense of humor after the films had become popular. He was even colder than daniel craig was in casino royale.
Agreed, sadly. At least we have the old movies to entertain us. The continued creative bankruptcy across all media just kills one franchise after another.
@@JRRob3wn It is OK. We still have the holy blue print, the hero's journey. Like a house we need to build new ones instead of trying to patch up the rotten ones.
I think the best thing they can do is bring Bond back to the 1960's and the cold war. Stay away from today and all the politics. Go back to the 60's and have Bond be Bond. Have him follow all of the societal norms of the time period. He, yes it's definitely a he, can watch Connery's Bond for inspiration. I personally think that would be the most enjoyable..... LMAO i guess i should've watched the whole video before i wrote my comment. If i had i would've realize Drinker and myself have the same idea for Bond. Bring him back to his roots; Throw him back into the Cold War. That's their best bet.
Yes do that. Exactly. OR just make Bond. Forget the Craig era. Cast a new Bond. A white male. Cast Q and M and Money Penny. Write a decent story and just keep the gadgets and fantasy stuff under control. And start again without starting again. Simply mention nothing that has gone before, and open it like a Bond film with some action somewhere and introduce the new Bond, and go on from there. Keep the trailers tight and show nothing iconic or most of the plot to keep people into it and just think like the Impossible Mission films. The whole formula and structure for Bond is there in decades worth of great Bond films. Pretend its 1995, and forget what happened with Craig like they did with Dalton and focus on a decent plot. Leave Woke out of it entirely, bring back some fun, one liners and moments when you want to cheer him on. In other words just make a proper Bond film. And it would do bank. It really would. They need to stop trying to woke it, force in different diverse crap. If they want to do that, make new films, new stories. Let Bond be Bond....
I feel like if he went back to the cold war the wokies would have a whole lot of commie apologism to adhere to Labour's current Fabian sensibilities lol.
Barbara Broccoli is the root of the problem. With or without Amazons involvement, as long as she's in charge, the series will get worse and worse. She's a true shame for her fathers legacy.
Having a movie where they re-activate Pierce Brosnan as a 00 agent would be great! I'd only want one and I'd want it to be better than the last few he went out on, but seeing him come back, put on the confidence and charm and take out a couple of villains is really all you need.
I think we can all agree that Idris Elba should not be in the running for James Bond, because of the incredibly obvious elephant in the room. He's already done a frankly amazing fucking job of playing Solomon Reed on Cyberpunk's Phantom Liberty and you can't have him play the same character but tell him to be British. Someone else deserves a chance! Also I'm told he's black.
Bond being the same guy from from Connery through Brosnan isn't as difficult to make work as you might think, even with leaving each movie being set around the time it was released. Not only do the movies suggest that, but it can work in the real world if we accept that Bond is exceptionally fit, which he would need to be to be a 00 Agent. Assuming Bond was early 20s for 1962's Doctor No, then he'd be early 60s come Die Another Day in 2002. And when you look at the likes of Keanu Reeves (60), Tom Cruise (62) or Jackie Chan (70), all of whom do many of their own stunts, look a lot younger than those ages, and are still extremely fit, then it's not that hard to believe that in truly exceptional cases (and Bond would be a truly exceptional case) someone in their early 60s might still be an active secret agent.
I could see a "passing the mantel" movie with an old Pierce Brosnan litterally reprising his old role and having a lot of back and forth with a new younger agent that will eventually become 007 by the end. A few essential conditions though : - Brosnan must survive and retire, Bond can be old, but not "beat and depressed", he's just getting slower and struggles to let go, but still must be awesome. - New Bond must be a man - Athletic - Suave - British - A seducer Besides, an easy way to keep the franchise name would be to have James Bond litterally adopting the new caracter by the end of the movie, making him officially "Bond" without having to "steal" that tilte.
I would have loved Henry Cavill as 007 However now I think a problem is most of the actors are in their late 30s, early 40s. I think they should get a British 20 year old actor that's decent at acting, looks the part, loves England, loves 007. I want to see bond being a Chad I want a charasmatic evil vilan. I want to see beautiful bond girls, they can be badasses too just don't be woke about it. I want to see Gadgets, car chases maybe a tank. I want over the top action.
Have you seen Day of the Jackal? That actress is in that as the detective etc and she is insufferable. The Jackal is a hideous killer and very cold and creepy. But...spoiler ahead!!! Last episode, with her finally catching up with him, having been smug and up herself all the way through, he runs rings around her, gets the drop on her and blows her away. He kills her. Stone dead. AND I CHEERED! I was astonished they had the balls to do that. To have a white male kill a black female. I suppose in there heads it was to show how evil he was. But I was just cheering for the revenge after Bond. That actress is an utter egotist, and she has played two characters now who were just the same. Seeing one get taken down and out was such a refreshing change in this day and age. It also means I will be watching Jackal season 2.....
Cast Henry Cavill as Bond. Have Guy Ritchie write/ direct an oldschool Bond Movie, in the style of The Man from UNCLE. Have Chad Stahelski & David Leitch direct the action sequences. Keep it free from "modern sensibilities". PROFIT. It´s that simple.
But how to they meet their EDI commitments? 50% of the cast from minority ethnic groups, minority sexualities, and obviously disability visibility also.
I'm a Gen Jones'r and grew up on the Ian Fleming & Sea Connery big screen 007 Bond. I mean it's been 60 years since audiences loved - I mean really loved - nail-biting stories about the cloak and dagger genre. Is there really THAT much emotional investment in continuing with a Bond after Flemings works? I thought Barb Broccoli did okay - all things considered - guarding her father's legacy with the franchise, but every time I take account for all the bad Bond films over the decades, holy crap! ...I want to cry enough is enough! Unless we have creative writers out there who can get inside Fleming's mind and know how to inspire future generations to modern kick-ass cloak and dagger films, that exciting 60s "From Russia With Love" Bond story-telling magic is long-long gone.
Whatever happens, I hope they bring some fun back to the franchise. Things got a little too serious and brooding with Daniel Craig, though I liked some of his movies. Bring some adventure back. And can we get someone who is at least 6 feet tall? I’ve read about some of the potential actors, like Tom Hardy, and while he’s awesome, I think he’s too short. I had a similar issue with his Bane portrayal. His performance was great, but when Batman is taller than Bane, it takes away from the character.
Bring back Pierce Brosman as old Bond. He comes across a son he didnt know he had who is also named James working as a merc or something. The elder Bond gets killed during heroics. His son takes up the mantle replacing his father for the 2nd half of the movie and becomes the new James Bond.
At least part of that would fit with Fleming's original novels, as in the novel version of You Only Live Twice the agent conceived a son with Kissy Suzuki. A later short story by Raymond Benson in 1997 revealed the son to be named James Suzuki.
At this point, I would much rather just have that leaked 007 LEGO game than a new movie. I really don't see a path forward for the franchise that doesn't fundamentally deconstruct Bond for the worse 😂
9:00 Mark Millar wrote a comic book with an spy that looks like an old James Bond played by Pierce Brosnan. I love that comic but I suspect it could be a bit strong for modern audiences.
For me, the eras of each Bond actor are separate universes. It has to be this way because otherwise he just doesn't age while the world around him is clearly in different time periods. That would be Simpsons-type continuity. So Pierce Brosnan returning for the "old Bond" of his universe would be a treat, I think.
Casino Royale is overrated as hell. A bland Bourne wannabe with a convoluted plot, first half is nothing but non stop action chases for a bunch of disposable henchmen, but with zero motivation. Then the movie slows down to a crawl for the dreadful poker match scenes, Vesper had zero chemistry, and all the hype around Mr White went absolutely nowhere. Not to mention how insufferable M is in the movie.
It was Grace Randolph who I first heard suggest the idea of taking the 007 movies in the direction of “team-up” bond films. Give me a new Bond (Henry Cavil or whoever), Idris Elba as 009, and Emily Blunt as 004 (or whatever designation). I think that would be fantastic 💯
@9:48 as in - The Ipcress Files. I actually remember manyyy years ago and I mean well before DC took the role, I heard that they had even considered a movie with all the Bond actors thus bringing in the "mantle" thing.
Idris elba actually chose the role of knuckles in the sonic movie trilogy instead of doing james bond. Speaking of which, you havent reviewed sonic 3 yet, you naughty boy!
The Sonic movies are just adequate kids entertainment. Nothing more, nothing less. The fact that the 3rd one is based on SA2 greatly saves it, but doesn't hold a candle to the original game.
The only way I would be interested in any new Bond films is if they actually went back and did faithful adaptations of the books. And I wrote this before Drinker said it!
I doubt that would happen in this day and age. I thought the Craig films were boring, but the books were on another level of dull. Compared to the films. If you read the books you can see exactly why the films went the route they did in comparison. My father has those books and when I was in my late teens I started reading them. I got through a few, but it was really hard to do. As I was so used to the Connery and Moore films. I will take any of those films over the books. The audience of today would never enjoy a book to film exact version....
At this point I just want some solid James Bond video games again. And before anyone mentions it, IOI’s Bond game was announced over 4 years ago and we haven’t heard anything about it since. Also, personally I’m not really into Hitman so that style of game isn’t necessarily up my alley
I think going back to early Cold War setting would be great. Man from Uncle had a great aesthetic and Henry Cavill was great, but I think that ship has sailed. I think we should be looking at finding another British man that pulls of the 60s Bond look.
Okay, it's fine to joke about a Moneypenny series - but I think it could work. Like - you'd have to make Moneypenny like Ms. Pauling from TF2 like how she is in the Expiration Date short, she works with "clean up" crews and deals with fallout from the actions of agents in the field. That is the concept I would go with for a show like that.
You are kidding??? If they made a series on her it would be like Burnham on Trek. She would be perfect, better than all the men and better than Bond. It would be like Rey on speed from Star Wars. About ten people would watch it and the internet would go into meltdown when it was axed due to the fact it was so bad. More people would moan and complain about it being binned than those that actually watched. And you can bet they would spend half a billion on it, and yet it would look like they had only spent £50 on it on screen....
Tarantino said he was imagining a bond script for Casino Royale at the time, with it being set in the 50s or 60s. They should go cast cavill and make a movie like that
Old Piers Bosnan for one movie would work great as he could just reminice how the world has change since the old days and set up a new actor(why not even in flashbacks) for following films with a younger actor like Henry Cavill set in the 60s
Honestly, if they ever actually do make another Bond movie, they should just have M or Q go, "I thought you were dead!" And Bond just responds, "Which time?" and refuses to elaborate further.
I'm a boomer that grew up with Sean Connery as James Bond. We were married when Bronsan jumped off the dam and we were impressed because we watch Remington Steele. But the stories for Daniel Craig feel short -- we wanted to really enjoy them but they were just passable, and when they finally killed Bond, it was finally ... about time. Broccoli doesn't want fans like us, which sucks because she's our age. If we can no longer have a Sean Connery Bond character, I say we should just leave bond dead. Let Amazon write stories for modern audience called "Wokepussy" or "The Lesbian Spy Who Loved Me". We're done.
I hate saying "in touch with his feelings". What does that even mean? Bond was always in touch with his feelings, but he was able to control them. His strongest feeling was his sense of duty.
Describing Amazon as "F-ing idiots" after what they did to Tolkien is an understatement. The name is Bond, Woke Bond... I've got the complete James Bond bluray collection - I tossed the Craig disks. Someone did a satire movie of James Bond's son - Jimmy Bond - I'm thinking the only real choice is to do something like that in earnest, albeit, not satire. Rather than an older Bond, why not a younger Bond - Bond back when he was in his 20s working for the SAS and just beginning to learn his craft, with him getting weird stuff from Q branch which made things worse as often as they made things better. Why is Broccoli and not the Flemming family making these decisions?
Not to self promote too hard but my last stream was about this. I think Bond should stay with contemporary/current year settings and could be explored as a more emotionally complex character without the excess dourness of the Craig era. Instead of a deconstruction and dissection of the character, its focus would be reconstructing and proving that the personal essence of the original character as envisioned by Fleming’s books still works in the modern day. And keep with a healthy mix of sci-fi gadget and save the world elements, both of which definitely can work in modern times and is what made earlier Bonds fun.
No fuck that. James Bond isnt an emotionally complex character. I and everybody else dont give a fuck about the emotional hang ups of a government assassin.
It would be better for Bond to end permanently than hollow it out for the modern audience.

Exactly. Mad Men did it and did it well. Each Bond film could Advance say 5 to 10 years bringing this new Bond through the 50s 60s 70s and 80s.
@@Volkbrecht You'd be surprised...
I'd be also great way to move character in same timeline, since we can have 4 movies covering same Bong in 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's.
Liked ' The Man from Uncle' and Cavils work in it. Seeing Cavil take over as Bond for a couple of films or more would be a good option. As always depends on the writers.
If two films were enough for Dalton (the best Bond, in my opinion), Cavill would be quality over quantity as well.
@Simon-xc5oy Cavill will most likely habe his hands full with the Warhammer series. So i doubt it.
Yep, and that was better than the whole Craig “era”!
Bond wouldn't even want to exist in the world we've created.
I say cast Henry Cavill. He’s been screwed over far too many times, he deserves a solid role like that.
You say the name Henry Cavill and it guarantees your movie will sell AT MINIMUM 750,000 more tickets while in theaters than it was going to....
Or Tom Hardy if not Henry.
He played Bond or at least the inspiration in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
@@ajitbengalinah, if not Henry, Richard Norton
Continuity of time is cancer to Bond, continuity of the framework is what keeps it alive eg there's always a Bond, an M, a Q, a Moneypenny etc, ostensibly they're the same person from movie to movie but we don't pin past events to a timeline so the actors can be swapped out, it worked for decades until they messed with it
It's like a soap opera honestly, they're constantly swapping the actors out but they're the same characters
This. Bond died for me when this nonsense started.
That’s the true legacy of the Craig era.
It showed Bond works best as a standalone stories which is why Casino Royale and Skyfall are considered the best movies from that era.
The only things that should "date" Bond is the new technology & excellent cars.
I still say and want Henry Cavill to he James Bond. The guy is perfect for the roll. He has charmed, charisma, class, he can do action scenes. Plus he been screwed out of so many roles thanks to Hollywood and entertainment industry. It a perfect role for him and many people love to see that
Totally agree. When I saw him in Man From Uncle (totally underrated movie) I thought here’s our next James Bond.
*role
He did other spy films too, like Argylle. Man's really out there training himself for the role but won't get chosen just because producers have "someone else in mind".
Yeah... But Henry is too late. Hell only tarnish his brand with this dead IP.

That would be fantastic, he could be the evil organizations answer to Bond, a guy just as skilled as Bond but working with the enemy.
@@osets2117then liberals would lose their minds over a black villian so go for it
He sure would. But I would prefer to see him as an "M" type character. The man who send Bond out on his mission, and tells him what to do. Like Marshall Pentecost in 'Pacific Rim'. He was so damn good in that.
Idris would have made a great Bond but he's kind of aged out. Seeing him as M or someone in charge would be excellent casting.
He could even play Felix Leiter.
I want them to remake the entire Bond series set in the 1950s/60s and just follow the canonical order of the books, which tell a complete narrative;

A few essential conditions though :
- Brosnan must survive and retire, Bond can be old, but not "beat and depressed", he's just getting slower and struggles to let go, but still must be awesome.
- New Bond must be a man
- Athletic
- Suave
- British
- A seducer
Besides, an easy way to keep the franchise name would be to have James Bond litterally adopting the new caracter by the end of the movie, making him officially "Bond" without having to "steal" that tilte.
That also plays with the idea that "James Bond" isn't a person but the name the agent goes by to protect their identity
Also Male.
Craig's bond wasnt emotional. He was a robot
Daniel Craig was a horrible casting choice for Bond, not even close. Although I guess we should thank our lucky stars we didn't get Lashana Lynch.

That does sound a lot like Batman Beyond (including the stuff from the JL show), which I count as a good thing.
At least part of that would fit with Fleming's original novels, as in the novel version of You Only Live Twice the agent conceived a son with Kissy Suzuki. A later short story by Raymond Benson in 1997 revealed the son to be named James Suzuki.
Sounds like Bad Boys 3

For me, the eras of each Bond actor are separate universes. It has to be this way because otherwise he just doesn't age while the world around him is clearly in different time periods. That would be Simpsons-type continuity. So Pierce Brosnan returning for the "old Bond" of his universe would be a treat, I think.

Casino Royale is overrated as hell. A bland Bourne wannabe with a convoluted plot, first half is nothing but non stop action chases for a bunch of disposable henchmen, but with zero motivation. They'll pull in the cartoon idea, it's James Bond Jr. but he always refers to him as uncle.
The good thing about Craig's tenure as bond is you can just excise it entirely and it has no effect on the remainder of the Bond movies.
Cavill and Aaron Taylor Johnson would fit the role perfectly.

Idris would make a great bond villain….but he’s not Bond
All of the franchises are dead. "Let the past die."
I think a good candidate is Jack Lowden, from Slow Horses. British & Young enough to hold on to many movies.
Who needs Bond when we have Rogue Elements? 🤣
