They're apparently considering a process where you have to register as a developer, and then they'll give you access to unlock the bootloader. The reason they locked it in the first place was that bad characters in China have put fake EMUI software with spyware and malware, selling them to regular customers, and leaving Huawei to deal with fixing those phones and leaving a bad impression on those regular customers.
@@hgos7211 Who cares about China? If you want to sell something in the west, you have to live up to western customer's expectations or GTFO, it's as simple as that. Yes you might convince some broke Apple fans, that you device is "secure", but the people who buy Android phones out of principle instead out of "more affordable" will never buy locked Chinese crap with Chinese spyware permanently installed. And this isn't about custom ROMs and software modding, it's about knowing that the manufacturer is not afraid to give me full control of devices I buy, even tough I will probably never use that control as I very much prefer tested, stable software and regular updates.
@@mkukri Who cares about China? You mean the place with 4 times the population of the US? The VAST majority has never even heard of bootloader unlocking, and even those that do don't even bother to root it these days as it's not much of a necessity with polished software and regular updates. And as far as updates go, Huawei is on par if not better than Samsung in that respect. Bootloader unlocking only caters to an incredibly niche market. International Roms of Chinese phones have very different software to the ones designed to be used in China. And pretty sure they're not dumb enough to shoot themselves in the foot by installing spyware into the phones.
@john wick Bluetooth still has noticeable latency. So wireless audio isn't perfect yet. When listening to music, I don't think that idea big deal, but when it comes to video or anything happening in real time, it's nice to have both options. Personally, I can afford a. Flagship phone, and I have plenty of bluetooth speakers. However, there are times when I want to use an aux jack, so I've skipped on the Galaxy note series thus far. Perhaps a couple of Bluetooth generations from now,I will make the transition to a flagship, but until then Bluetooth isn't at the point where I can rely on it for everything.
@john wick It literally has nothing to do with affordability you thick headed dolt. I fucking hate Apple for making people believe that removing the headphone jack is a feature.
@john wick Within that mysteriously homogenous group of "all people," there exists a heterogene known as "some people," which happens to like cords. I know that they exist because, well, they are very outspoken about their existence. If they were as silent as Bigfoot and Nessy, then perhaps I'd be with you in debating their existence. However, it seems that the evidence is irrefutable.

About Huawei's version of android (might be a bit of a rant): I really have to say Huawei massacres the android experience. EMUI really feels like a cheap iOS knock off and their aggressive app suppression was always an issue. I got my first Huawei phone three years ago, it was a Mate 8, and I really had problems with WhatsApp and anyone trying to contact me. While searching for a solution it got clear to me that this issue even persisted long before I got my phone so good job Huawei on that front. Then there is their update policy. At least with my Mate 8, Huawei usually updated their Chinese counterpart meaning. This disparity could last you a couple of months or you never get the update as it was the case with the Android 8 update. I had to manually flash the Chinese Firmware on to my phone and then recover the phone via their recovery system to get Android 8. Then, because you had the Chinese version now, you had to downgrade your LTE Modem Drivers to the Android 7 version, because that is the last version the international model got, so that you can use HSPA or LTE. All this to get Project Treble up and running so that I can run a proper custom Rom because the Kirin processors were poorly supported by the community, mainly because the drivers were closed source for a long time. But this was not good either because, when you ran out of battery you had to reinstall android. This happened because for some reason the custom rom lost its own encryption keys and could not decrypt the partitions anymore. Something similar happened with the stock Android 8 from Huawei. After a couple of months and this madness I had gone through with this phone I pulled the plug and got myself an OnePlus 6T so that I do not have to bother with that Huawei nonsense. So after hearing that Huawei stopped people from unlocking their bootloader: I really think it does not really matter if it is unlockable or not mainly for reasons stated above. The only reason to unlock the bootloader on a Huawei Phone is to root it but that is all you can really do. I even tried xposed with Huawei phones and it was not a nice experience. It worked but wonky and you had to use a special version made for Samsung Roms, because Huawei uses a custom theming engine that is apparently similar to Samsung’s', and good luck finding a up to date version. TL; DR; Huawei phones are great hardware wise but absolutely terrible when it comes to their software.

You are in a very small minotiry though.
I appreciate the transparency of Xiaomi and One Plus. But Huawei is using a proprietary chip with a locked bootloader while being global telecom maker. They have shady af history. They are not helping by locking that bootloader lol.
Honestly, removing the unlockable bootloader is the most wanna be IOS thing that i ever saw.
Probably there are other companies witch did it already, for instance, i have an old Sony Ericson wt19a that cannot have the bootloader unlocked, but it was due the carrier, even though people managed to install custom stuff on it, nowadays i don't thing it will be possible with the new chips that Huawei implemented.

I no longer consider Huawei as an option since they started to forbid bootloader unlocking. If I pay for a device, I want to have full control of it.
@@hgos7211 well they could make it non locked for other regions if it is just China...

Thankfully It's gonna die next year .
I like the headphone jack and I hope it never dies. I know that Bluetooth is more modern but the 3.5 mm jack is more convenient. It looks like Apple and Huawei never heard of the term "if it's not broken don't fix it".

About Huawei's version of android (might be a bit of a rant):
I really have to say Huawei massacres the android experience.
So after hearing that Huawei stopped people from unlocking their bootloader:
I really think it does not really matter if it is unlockable or not mainly for reasons stated above.
TL; DR;
Huawei phones are great hardware wise but absolutely terrible when it comes to their software.
Yes, for example, Fortnite run better on iPhone XS Max than in the P30 Pro
I can safely say that someone of these software issues have been fixed with emui 10, using my p30 pro works like a charm

I don't why you got annoyed by the usage notification. It's the best idea for Android. It tells me if apps running in the background and using my microphone, even the app is from Google. But I want to know. Android apps simply have too much permission. I really appreciate this functionality.
Killing background apps is not only good for the battery life, also for your privacy concern. I also really appreciate that. You have option to stop it like you discribed. The reason it didn't work for you because you have removed the app from the multi task menu by swiping it off the screen. The app didn't implement auto restart or notification long life method. It's not the OS problem. You also have option to lock the app in the multi task menu which you must have not done.
