As an ex bus mechanic from BK, I do remember the RTs on route 62. These buses certainly had a rough life. Many were parked in the large open area because there wasn't sufficient room in the garage. I also attended the 2019 event at Barking, when many vehicles ran over the old 62 route. I was also pleased to see RT 1, driven by Leon Daniels. Although many of us engineering staff remember this bus as 1037j, the vehicle used at West ham for training purposes. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.👍
I was 29 in 1979, I have never been to Britain. My father was in England during WW2. He landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy. The red Routemaster was an iconic symbol of London. I just learned about the Green Line buses recently. I am an American fan of British Rail.
There are few Routemasters ('RMs') alas for you to ride on these days, just a few on Route 15 in Central London. If you do ever make it across the pond, I heartily recommend you take a ride in one, they're very evocative. As a Welshman living in Asia now, I thank your father for his service to the UK in the war. Stay safe, stay strong. Cheers from Brunei.
A great upload! I remember riding on the last RTs back in March 1979, having grown up with them in east London. The locations seen are Rose Lane (near A12 Moby Dick), back end of Chiswick Works and Movers Lane roundabout on the A13........
Thanks for posting ... So many memories of Bollo Lane - hanging out there to watch the buses. Still go to Acton Town to get fish and chips - all housing estates and business parks now. Took my children back to RT80 explaining I was at RT40 :-).
If offered the choice between a Bentley R, RR Silver Cloud I, a Jaguar XK120 and the RT, I think I would take the RT, second version with the roofbox and illuminated route number.
23rd December 2018, and also chucking it down, watching this makes me think that the Lino is industry has no pride in its current Buses with all its bus operators, the RT class was the very best of the best.
Oh, nearly forgot a point I wanted to make! Did you notice just how quickly passengers could get off/on those buses! And boy, they were fast! Takes forever these days to get on/off at a bus stop!
that was one of the best thing about these buses. As a schoolboy in 81/82 I can remember sprinting half way down the high st (HOUNSLOW)to jump on and flopping down in your seat with chest heaving. Good times ay?
They were meant to be all gone by 1970, but circumstances (probably the failed OMO programme) led to a reprieve as they were aging but proven workhorses.

Warm memories of a superb bus & era. Excellent.
Enjoyed seeing the other traffic too along with the RTs. Spotted 2 Leyland FGs and two British Gas vans (Escort and Marina).

Lodge Avenue roundabout.
@@jerribee1 Yes, you're right, getting my fly-overs mixed up!
I was only 5 years old at the time however I have good memories of them. I also remember how wet the early months of 1979 was.

Very nice quality! The colours have lasted well, haven't they? Enjoyed those three minutes.

I agree - sounds better than the other choices too!

Well managed RT's - with a professional and often humorous conductor!
Used to use these old buses in 1977/78 on route 93a from putney Bridge if memory serves.
Warm memories with the old rings of the old bell more Tim's ringing then than now

As a bus driver today (28yrs old).. everyone is so namby pamby lol.

I think I knew that lady who got off the bus at 0:13. Joan Smith.
Love RT's. Shame that they were allowed to get so run down
0:20 A road like that would never have a 40mph limit on it these days. Probably more like 20!
