      Ma Long came close in table tennis for quite some time. But Magnus is even more dominant. I fully understand that he doesn't want to play another classical championship.

      Best one was that 136 move game vs nepo in game 6 of the world champ match where he grinded nepo down with knight and rook vs queen after sacking his own queen in the midgame.

    It was a positional masterclass. In the tv studio today one of the guests was Simen Agdestein, Norways first GM and his chess teacher in the short time Magnus went to high school to study chess. I too was stunned by Kd8 and later c7, but Agdestein was familiar with the plan, he mentioned a game against Johnathon Speelman. Thanks James.

      @@epicchess2021 I have since checked , the Agdestein game, a brilliant win, but he didn’t play the idea. Much of the rest with the knights dominating bishops was the same though.

    Total domination by magnus carlsen . Other player never get any chance to fight. But really carlsen is BRINGING life to chess. I hope he try this in classic chess. Rapid and blitz are heavy time pressure match and people blunder unnecessarily. But liked your joke. 《This guy was once a world champion.》he won 10 times and by far the GREATEST player in chess history. Aanand kasparov karpov and fischer morphy no body has tried risky opening or sideline opening. Magnus is going where nobody has ever gone. In his own LEAGUE

    This game felt more like watching a high level jiu jitsu bout! Totally amazing how both players keep on slowly manoeuvring and moving forward, but in the end Magnus just chokes him out. Brilliant.

    Carlsen was asked on Norwegian TV what his thoughts were on potentially facing Niemann in the tournament. He said he certainly hoped he will not face Niemann as that would have meant that he was playing poorly. I hope they face eachother in the blitz section 😀

    Magnus making a very wise decision, imo. He could go further in theory and lose his mind, like Fisher. he might end up hating Chess too. Instead, after winning everything there was to win, he (imo) relaxes, has more fun and enjoys other things in life. Kuddo's to you Sir Magnus, you are a true Legend.

      You ever seen that movie from the 90s where everyone had to be average, and being exceptional resulted in govt intervention like awk weighted boots on the feet of the best dancers etc. I get the sense Kramnik would watch it with feelings of relief

    Some parts near the end are reminiscent of the famous Zugzwang game between Samisch and Nimzovich, as White gets steadily more restricted.

      @@automatescellulaires8543 hahaha :D well I think you´re joking but if not than take a look again ;P Ofc he is not stockfish who sees every mate in 15 or even 20 but mostly his moves are super precise so that even stockfish likes them, maybe 85%+ overall accuracy

    Followed the championship, terrible broadcast, fantastic games. This particularly game I knew right away it was a draw, there is no room for progress. And then Magnus proved me wrong again. Yes, it's art at the highest level and I think these games will be studied even next century. Thx for covering this game 🎉

    He is great but imagine Kasparov, Capablanca, Botvinnik, Tal or Fischer with the computer access he has enjoyed. It would have been fun to see him play any of these greats in their prime.

    That really is a wonderful game. Epic Chess often oversells with clickbait headlines, but this one is truly marvelous, switching from one side of the board to the other, maneuvering everything.
