you can, only with whittle tho. the black part next to the actual magnet is actually a place where you can put the magnet of another engine so it looks like a back engine.

Better yet, for the sake of compatibility with other wooden locomotives and consists, W.S.R.R. (and _all_ wooden trains) should install two-way magnets into their couplers. In other words, the couplers would be like ones in modern LEGO City train sets.
