It looks like he was punching the player. But he was trying to punch the ball out which is a strategy and a lot of players do it. It’s perfectly legal.
Targeting usually involves the defensive player either leading with their helmet, or targeting the offensive player’s head…much like when Kamara was ejected later in the game.
To clarify, Colorado going for 2 in the 2nd OT was not a ballsy call by Prime to put the pressure on Colorado State, they have to go for 2 after a touchdown in the 2nd OT. If CSU tied it, they would have gone to just doing alternating 2-point try attempts (in the style of penalty shootouts after round 5) for every overtime period thereafter.
11:36 could be punching the ball hard to see. Players are taught to punch the ball when there is a pile to cause a fumble. Charles "Peanut" Tillman for the Chicago Bears was great at it.
Getting ejected from any American football game is highly unusual. State took the 15 yard penalty, and the team was not happy about it. This sort of thing tends to not escalate in NCAA or NFL.
with the whole unnecessary roughness loop hole, if I remember correctly, the refs can just skip the warning if they deem worthy. The next step up from unnecessary roughness is targeting, but that only gets called if they player flagged aimed for the head of the other player usually.
12:01 you can try to punch the ball to cause a fumble but people punch all the time. Punch you in the gut, twist your ankle, step on your ankle hand or anywhere you may have an injury all types of stuff happens
Friend of mine went to CU when we were growing up and I'd visit during the rivalry games. It was a ton of fun being in a college town with the awesome atmosphere. The funny thing was my ex lived in Ft. Collins and went to CSU so I'd always meet up with her as well when I'd go visit. Of course, I rooted for the Buffs lmao. Cool to see their team come quite a ways since then. Also the Blackburn cheap shot could arguably have been an "attempt to injure" match penalty if it was in the NHL. I know that football doesn't have the same rule, but other ones like targeting etc. but there has been talks about introducing something similar to hockey, purely for the fact that people's careers and future prospects can get ruined by plays like that. Now while it was on a defenseless receiver after the play was basically dead shows intent. I think the right call was made to assess a penalty at the spot of the foul and the repercussions that Blackburn has to deal with is pretty insane, people really go the extra mile to be assholes.
Targeting in the nfl is called “lowering the helmet”. It isn’t called too often as isn’t an automatic ejection. College it’s called targeting, gets called semi regularly and is an automatic ejection for the rest of the game and if it occurs in the second half that player is disqualified for the first half of the next game.
There is still a rule against excessive celebration but over the past few years refs have been more lenient as long as its nothing disrespectful or isn't in their opinion "excessive". Personal Fouls are like a yellow card. There are some exceptions, but it's gotta be egregious, and usually not something "on the field" and you can get a non-targeting ejection.
so the referees can choose to eject a player if they feel like the act was agregious ( hope that's spelled correctly) it's subjective, different officials may call it differently.

Overtime rules in college are different than the NFL. At the end of regulation, the referee will toss a coin to determine which team will possess the ball first in overtime. The visiting team captain will call the toss. The winner gets to choose to either play offense or defense first or chooses which side of the field to play on. The decision cannot be deferred. The teams that loses the coin toss must exercise the remaining option. They will then have the chance to choose first from the four categories in the second overtime and subsequent even-numbered OT periods. The team that wins the toss will have the same options in odd-numbered OT periods. In each of the first two overtime periods, teams are granted one possession beginning at the opponent's 25-yard line, unless a penalty occurs to move them back. The offense can place the ball anywhere on or between the hash marks. Each team is granted one timeout per overtime period. Timeouts do not carry over from regulation nor do they carry over between overtime periods. Each team retains the ball until it fails to score, fails to make a first down or turns the ball over. Beginning with the second overtime period, teams must attempt a two-point conversion after scoring a touchdown. Beginning with the third overtime period, teams will begin to run alternating two-point conversion plays instead of offensive possessions.
"Bleached bro...." got it. He was punching the ball, not the player. Best NFL guy was Charles "peanut" Tillman. Master of the punch fumble. Played 4 Chicago Bears, retired.
It was incomplete cause the ball hit the ground before the defender caught it. I watched the game live and saw the replay. He wasn't sacked either. It was close but he got it out right before the leg hit the ground.
You're allowed to dance in the endzone in college, that's about all that is allowed. the main rules are "no props" and that your celebration can't involve teammates.
As a lifelong fotball fan. They've already added to many rules protecting the offense and making it impossible to play defense. Most games are determined by who has ball last, and wether or not the ref throws a flag. I hate it. Kicking a player out of a game plays a big factor in outcome of the game. You should only get kicked out for non football moves (punching, kicking, eye gauging) late hits are part of the game, that one was agregious, but 15 yds and an automatic 1st down, is a big penalty. As far as the injury, it sucks, but it happens, multiple players every game, no rule changes have or will change that fact.
Travis Hunter has a lacerated liver and will be out for a couple of weeks. Henry Blackburn (#11, guy with the dirty hit) has received death threats and has gotten his family address leaked. Sad situation all around.
@@howyadoin9887I agree. Although I hated Blackburn for what he did, no one deserves to be threatened with their life nor to have their personal information disseminated on public media. If they have a problem, they could just bring a proper dialogue with the CSU coaching staff and Athletic Department. My first thought about the death threats are that they were sent by people who wagered big money on Travis Hunter winning the Heisman Trophy this season and upset thinking that Blackburn was carrying out some “bounty mission”.
Personal fouls in college football don’t have an ejection consequence. Two personal fouls won’t cause a player to be ejected, but two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on a player in one game will result in an ejection of that player. If a personal foul is so egregious that it that it’s deemed to be “flagrant”, meaning it causes serious injury or is totally unreasonable/dangerous, then that is an ejection level penalty.
Yes it should have been an ejection, it was massively late, he didn't target the head but he could have seen been ejected under the referees discretion and it literally lacerated Travis Hunters liver.
I love that these two British guys have become college football fans and know enough that Colorado v Oregon is a big game but Colorado v USC has the potential to be an even bigger game! You have to know a decent amount college football to make that observation. Bravo Fellas

He was punching the ball trying to get it out. Whether he actually hit the ball or not is def up for debate lol but for the most part, you’re taught at an early age to punch the ball out.
6:00 I disagree adamantly with anyone that thinks that shouldn't (or couldn't) have been an ejection. Typically most ejections are the result of targeting and it would be uncommon for a hit that looks like this to result in an ejection. However, it is well within the refs power to eject any player at any time. Given the lateness of the hit, I do think an ejection was warranted (and thought so as soon as I saw the hit). Otherwise you're just saying it's open season to hit top players after the play and potentially knock them out of the game because you can only be hit by a 15 yard penalty. Refs lost control of this game and likely wouldn't have had a message been sent by ejecting this player. I'm not alone in my opinion about ejecting this player. Many pros have said the same including Micah Parsons, who is probably the best defensive player in the NFL right now. Donovan McNabb (great retired NFL QB) thinks the player should be suspended for at least 4 games.
In the NFL, that dirty hit would of caused that player to be ejected or suspended. But this hit happened in the college football, and the NCAA is not as organized as NFL. Because NCAA is not as organized, that player is probably not gonna get suspended
Blackburn getting his ankles taken on the last TD was hilarious. well deserved. Hunter is going to probably miss games against Oregon and USC (2 huge games) because of the cheap shot
I’d assume the punch was to knock the ball out. Or that’s what the player would say. Maybe a cheap shot with that excuse. But punching the ball out is something you see a lot. Just not in a pile of 5 players lol.

The punch was actually punching the ball, which is allowed, trying to make a fumble.
Ahh that makes more sense! Thanks for the info and the comment Peter 🙏 On first watch really did look like he was trying a punch 😅
@@DNReacts -- Yes, and if it was hockey it definitely would have been a punch 😀
he may have been trying to punch the ball out to force a fumble with that punch
Ahh that makes more sense! Thanks for the info and the comment Mitchell 🙏 On first watch really did look like he was trying a punch 😅
"I love a bit of rough". No kink shaming please. 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
The penalty on the first pick-6 was due to the 🖌️CO State player knowing Sanders to the ground well after the touchdown was scored.
The play ended as soon as the touchdown was scored. Sanders was pushed off balance - hence “unnecessary roughness” and not a personal foul.
If you get called for pass interference and personal foul on the same play playing defense the called yards do stack.
He was punching at the ball to try and knock it out of his arms.
Ahh that makes more sense! Thanks for the info and the comment 🙏 On first watch really did look like he was trying a punch 😅
About the Colorado State head coach. I think the word you were looking for is 'tosser'. Yeah.... kinda does remind me of one.
Day 2 of asking for you to react to Nick Chubb highlights and then his injury against the Steelers
Travis Hunter has a lacerated liver and will be out for a couple of weeks. Henry Blackburn (#11, guy with the dirty hit) has received death threats and has gotten his family address leaked. Sad situation all around.
Class move by Deion and Travis Hunter to both come out and make statements to leave Blackburn and his family alone.
Yeah that is sad! Nobody deserves that 😫
@@howyadoin9887I agree.
In College they are forced to go for a 2pt on the 2nd overtime TD score, and if its tied after that they just go for competing 2pters
Oh, I didn’t know this, thanks for the info Rich, this is great, appreciate it 🙏
Personal fouls in college football don’t have an ejection consequence.
He was punching at the ball. It's usually more obvious :D
Ahh that makes more sense! Thanks for the info and the comment 🙏 On first watch really did look like he was trying a punch 😅
Colorado was a 24 point favorite. While this was a great game, it’s a massive bad omen for the rest of Colorado’s season.
Yes it should have been an ejection, it was massively late, he didn't target the head but he could have seen been ejected under the referees discretion and it literally lacerated Travis Hunters liver.
Yeah I agree 100%, appreciate the comment!
You'll see punches like you noticed happen alot in those situations. They're ostensibly going for the ball.
Damn shoulda looked first before mentioning it. My bad lol.
Haha it’s cool! Thanks for the info 😀
I love that these two British guys have become college football fans and know enough that Colorado v Oregon is a big game but Colorado v USC has the potential to be an even bigger game! You have to know a decent amount college football to make that observation. Bravo Fellas
Thanks for this, really appreciate the comment 🙏
Offset on the offset! 😂
Genius!
I was in the student section for this game 😃
If you could react to the Colorado Oregon game that would be great! :)
i think the new thing is to punch the ball out... don't know if they teach it...
Colorado should go down in the rankings considering how they barely beat an unimpressive Colorado state team.
Colorado is about to play Oregon and I'm guessing Cinderella will be leaving the ball.
😅😅
I mean Oregon is an established program for the last 10+ years going up against a program that just started so that makes more sense… Kind of a stupid statement
@@JoeBlow_4 good the more white people get mad and the more I know things are moving in the right direction. Keep crying and keep coping. That’s why you’re in a RUclips comment section.
@@dancleary4101 Oregon Coach Dan Lanning - "The Cinderella story is over, men," he said....They're fighting for clicks, we're fighting for wins. This game ain't going to be played in Hollywood. It's going to be played on the grass."

@@JoeBlow_4 duh… They were 21 point underdogs in the number 10 team ranked in the country going up against first years I would expect them to win and I picked them to win doesn’t mean we’re gonna stop supporting him and he still gonna live rent free in your head keep crying
There are rules to avoid cheap shots...he was penalized for it...doesn't mean they totally avoid cheap shots...then they wouldn't be called cheap shots
He was punching the ball trying to get it out. Whether he actually hit the ball or not is def up for debate lol but for the most part, you’re taught at an early age to punch the ball out.
Ahh that makes more sense! Thanks for the info and the comment 🙏 On first watch really did look like he was trying a punch 😅
they punch the ball to try to cause a fumble. he didnt punch him
That’s makes a lot more sense 😂
Appreciate the comment and context. I didn’t realise officials could eject if not targeting. I agree 100%, should have been ejected for that tackle.
colorado state exposed colorado in this game
In the NFL, that dirty hit would of caused that player to be ejected or suspended. But this hit happened in the college football, and the NCAA is not as organized as NFL. Because NCAA is not as organized, that player is probably not gonna get suspended
Ah okay, appreciate the info and comment, thanks 🙏
Blackburn getting his ankles taken on the last TD was hilarious. well deserved. Hunter is going to probably miss games against Oregon and USC (2 huge games) because of the cheap shot
Absolutely well deserved! Love to see it!
Colorado states quarterback is really good.
I’d assume the punch was to knock the ball out. Or that’s what the player would say. Maybe a cheap shot with that excuse. But punching the ball out is something you see a lot. Just not in a pile of 5 players lol.
Ahh that makes more sense! Thanks for the info and the comment 🙏 On first watch really did look like he was trying a punch 😅
He punched the ball
Ahh that makes more sense! Thanks for the info and the comment 🙏 On first watch really did look like he was trying a punch 😅
I Agee with damo Blackburn should have been ejected and Colorado state should have suspended Hin for a game or two
Yeah he definitely deserved that!
I think #43 was punching the ball loose and not the offensive player.
Ahh that makes more sense! Thanks for the info and the comment Sam 🙏 On first watch really did look like he was trying a punch 😅
