In this episode, Claire Wylds-Wright, CEO of Hypersomnia Foundation, sits down with Dr. David Rye, professor of neurology at Emory University’s School of Medicine and the director of research for Emory Healthcare’s Program in Sleep Medicine.
David Rye, MD, PhD is an internationally recognized expert in narcolepsy and related disorders of excessive daytime sleepiness and movement disorders in sleep, particularly Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS). His current research focuses on RLS and hypersomnia. Rye is committed to advancing our understanding of the genetic and pharmacological underpinnings for sleep and its disorders with an eye on recognizing and improving treatment choices for patients.
In this episode, Dr. Rye and Claire discuss why he decided to focus on sleep research and clinical treatment. He shares how the landscape of treatment has changed over the decades and the challenges researchers and clinicians still face. Despite the challenges, Dr. Rye is optimistic about future treatment for idiopathic hypersomnia.
