I've always loved working on my Combat that I've owned since '72. Wouldn't take it out unless it was shining, tuned and running beautifully. I've never lost a thing that's rattled off and it's never left me stranded. I get more thumbs up now the older it gets.

They do become more and more appealing to bystanders as they get older.....always beautiful bikes if you ask us

I have had my Triumph Tr-6 with a hard tail and magneto for 40 years. No problem with vibration. Like my solid mount Sportster. If the rubber mounted frames are not maintained properly they will become dangerous. Featherbed frames handle better.

Better still just ride at 80mph which is my 850 mk1’s happy spot 😂. Seriously though the only issue ive had is oil tank top rubber mount failing so put a lightweight car intercooler mount on it and the mount broke off the tank, so i just replace the original one yearly. Wonderful bikes. Had mine 25 years now.

That's really good going, you've obviously looked after it very very well

@@andovernorton-thesource 21 tooth front sprocket, don’t use o ring chain, they rob power (i think) i use tsubaki chains and change them often. I use shim isolastics and set them with 2 sets of 10-11 feeler gauges. It jumps a bit at idle suut really smooths out at about 1500 rpm. Still has its amals and choke slides and original air box , but run s pipes with short reverse cone mufflers, im on my 2nd set of head say mounts but would like a Hyde one except being in NZ makes that expensive. I think my header pipes are andover? They fit nice but i run 3 cotton reel mounts between 2 bits of 25x 5 main one footpeg mount to shock top mount and one between the mufflers wit rubbers just above top and bottom of mufflers and centre. Works great.

My biggest problem has been the head steady.

That gear shift indicator 😊......also using the proper fastner thread goes a long way to keeping things together....didnt Nortons change from bsc bsf bsw to unf unc ?

Partially with the commando they went to unified but not every thread on the bike. Sorry, not a much clearer answer.

Never unc thats an American take on whitworth but they changed the pitch by 5 degrees and added 1 tpi to the 1/2 inch just to really catch ya out . Why who knows . But even with a 73 850 you still need Af whitworth and BA spanners and sockets . Some ground and bent .

Great video and very helpful. Is it possible to get better close in video on? Some areas that are pointed out did not have a good close up of the area being addressed.
