Not sure if you've seen the Corelli/Simionato recording of the end duet from Gli Ugonotti, but if not definitely check it out! Simionato runs NECK AND NECK with him during the whole thing. It's absolutely brilliant ... and neither one bowed to the other.
It's one of my favourite live recordings, especially with the inclusion of Dame Joan Sutherland. Corelli remains one of the all-time great tenors of the 20th century.
Splendide couple et voix merveilleusement assorties! Que n'a t'on enregistré ces deux artistes dans une intégrale de studio de ce superbe Verdi, l'un des plus grands ouvrages de ce maître, à mon modeste goût...
Wonderful, I will never forget seeing these two artists in Werther in 1971 at the Met- a searing experience! They are both gorgeous to hear and see!! thank you.
He never sang it because, as he said, it wasn't a very popular opera in Italy. It was rarely done. That's what he said anyway. His voice is perfect for the role.
Can you imagine what a glorious stage picture Corelli, with this silver hair, would have made with Dmitri Hvorotovsky? I have to admit that I haven't listened to Ms. Crespin very much, because her usual repertoire wasn't what I prefer to listen to, but I like her Verdi and also her Berlioz.
Who the hell cares about Corelli's acting? If you want acting go see a play or a football game. The man was a God. I'll take "park and bark" over meagerly sung fireworks any day. Especially when it is like Corelli who embodied the true essence of opera. It is a VOCAL art.
Very interesting! It's incredible for me that Corelli never sing Riccardo, and neither the arias. As far as I know this is his only Ballo record. What a pity!
But what do you expect him to do? It is a love duet after all. It would be rather strange if they stayed far from each other. Besides, holding hands gives the possibility for the singer to signal when he/she wants to stop a note as you can see here from Crespin.
Just sad that they have both left this wolrd!I saw them together in TOSCA at the Opera de Paris (with also Bacquier!)what an evening! That was really OPERA in all terms!Stangely the voice of Crespin was not suitable on recordings, speccially in the top range! On stage that impression completely disapered,I am sure that today, with new recording technics it could have been better made!:
Quelle splendeur que la voix "italienne " de Crespin! pourquoi a t'elle perdu son temps à chanter en allemand? ce n'était pas son style ni sa culture! que de regrets d'intégrales verdiennes perdues!!!
👏👏👏👏 quelle classe !
Of course. I heard her many times live at SF Opera in the sixties and seventies. Big gorgeous voice.
A magic moment. There is not much good video of Regine Crespin around which is a pity. Thank you.
Great camera work, he must have had the hots for Corelli (who wouldn't?) They're just wonderful here!
Fabulous! Crespin, shows why in this video she too had a great career, first as a soprano with a lovely voice, and then as a mezzo.
No one could top Corelli on stage,(like Del Monaco) his voice was just a force of nature and everyone had to bow down to him-FACT

Sa Tosca nous manque aussi beaucoup..!
I especially admire Crespin in this production, her voice and interpretation are so strong, and still so refined

No comment !!!! une pure merveille
bloody Corelli
ci sarà un altro Corelli bello e bravo come lui?
Fabulous singing.
Великолепный дуэт Амелии и Ричарда из оперы "Бал маскарад" Дж.Верди. Красивые голоса у Ф.Корелли и Р.Креспин, сценичные певцы.
Very lovely collaboration between two great artists.
Thanks for the post
When artists reach such a high level of singing, nothing should be said...

"Amelia, tu m'ami?"
"Si, t'amo"...
Thrilling.
La grande Régine !
corelli is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastica la Crespin!

Brava Crespin.

Corelli e sempre Corelli !!
You can see the first half, that is the whole duet on youtube.

Great, but hey skipped a bunch of measures at the end...?
...and of course, he finishes the last note just a split second after her :-)
well maybe...but I would say you have a very creative read on that one lol
for some reason, the mics works better with her voice pitch than with his(it is heard much more clearly)
But what do you expect him to do? It is a love duet after all. It would be rather strange if they stayed far from each other. Besides, holding hands gives the possibility for the singer to signal when he/she wants to stop a note as you can see here from Crespin.
I presume that our beloved artists were really singing over orchestra recording. Isn't it so?
CORELLI AZ IGAZI......
Give us a break,lady Juill!!!!!
