Carl was a monster player - even into his 70s - and so musical when he improvised. I love Bill Watrous' comment when asked which Carl Fontana solo was his favorite. Bill said "All of them". So true! I don't think Carl ever played a bad solo in his life. That said, Mr. Begonia is quite a fine trombonist & improvisor and will carry on Carl's tradition of playing.
Wow, so great to see this! I listen to my 6 CD set of the Fontana-Candoli live quintet recordings made in Phoenix, AZ at least once a year. I’ve never heard of Begonia before but he’s obviously a disciple of Fontana.
