The only better end would have been if the flute had broken. And it had been a Scottish Regiment. ...Seeing the abused pipes, and setting his passenger in place the Commander spoke over the radio. "Well lads. Move in 3. Check in.." A series of quick Alphanumeric replies ran smoothly, and all was in order. The CO took a look at his passenger holding the ruined bagpipes. "Do you know how to play those, son?" came a softer question. "No, lit..lef? Sir. No. The flute was mine. These were my Grandfather's. He was sent before me..." Tears flowed from his eyes. A hand gently laid itself over the pipes huddled in his arms. The radio crackled. In a soft and quite tone that caused everyone on the net stop the Colonel spoke again. "This is Regiment Actual. This one followed a piper out here knowing he would die. He comes from a line of pipers. He came to die but, by God he would do it on his feet and not his knees! That makes him a Scotsman to me. Let's have these walking Pansies here the sound that has driven our foe in terror since before our ancesters were savages painted blue. Sparky, Royal Tattoo 3412. Track 3 then shuffle. All crews, flags out if you insbordinate dogs have them." A scraping sound behind the driver caused him to turn. A section of patterened cloth hung there from a pole. It's vibrant blue/green/black pattern sharp against the pale clouds. Similar cloths in a blinding array of colors started to appear on the other vehicles. "Follow me." "This is called Scotland the Brave..."

*That Other Guy* By infernal conspiracy of course! Surely it was some daemon, that inspired these poor deluded creatures into making than infernal noisemaker , blasphemers call a musical instrument.
Bagpipes are either a beautiful instrument of unending throm or a reched noisemaker of ear splitting volume depending on the skill of the musician. A perfect analogy of the duality of man.
Sounds like a sequel to the Quiet Place movies. Humans were only held down for a few years. Some places like Cheyenne Mountain and the Greenbrier, and other similar bunkers, weren't damaged at all. When we came back, it was as an unstoppable wave of noise and firepower; with the John Churchills of the world marching out front, with their pipes and drums, longbows and broadswords. Four centuries later, we're planet hopping with the Death Angel's technology, wiping them out, one star system at a time.
Author here! Yup the aliens were inspired by the Quiet Place monsters! I've always felt a nagging urge to just... lash out at them. Like, we clearly have the capabilities... so I vented out my frustrations in this story I guess? haha
I was thinking that this would be a few hundred years after 'The Quiet Place', after humanity had taken care of their local problem, re-built, then learned of the invaders attacking other worlds, and set about righting the universe. HFY!
When I first saw that movie I also thought about LRAD and other sound-based crowd control weapons. I feel like those would have been the ticket to dealing with the monsters.
I thought this would be about the playlist of songs humans (stereotypically in HASO/HFY) use to simultaneously psych themselves up for battle and terrify the enemy.
In a project I've been working on on and off, I'd thought of a miniature LRAD fitted to a combat cyborg as a counter metahuman weapon. Rather than engage at range, they activate them at arm's length. Then the cyborg starts throwing punches.
I have watched hundreds, maybe thousands of videos; I have seen quality ranging from shitposts to Cinematic masterpieces, and this one story here, this one video, deserves to be among THE best videos I have Ever watched. only two others have been placed in such a ranking, but your voice, the story, the drive for passion, the drive to keep a culture that is dying, and then the grand sense of power in the finale. I have never cried from just many paragraphs of text, but there is always a first time for anything.
Author here! Oh my god seriously? ;( Thank you so very much this means so much to me! Seriously! Like, I spent a literal week on this story. I had a direction I wanted to take it, but it was so difficult to pin down. I planned for it to only go about 2500 words at first but it ended up being much longer. I was so worried if it would seem clunky or awkward or anything but I'm so glad you feel the way you do about it! Honestly I didn't expect anyone to tear up at this since honestly, I was doubting whether or not it would be received as I had intended it to. ^^

Proof of God or proof of Satan?
Yes this does prove there's a God....and it also proves that they don't like ether of our species very much

I knew it was just a matter of time before we weaponized stadium rock. Heck, it was halfway there when it was written.
Starts with a bunny playing bagpipes and somehow gets even better

Pretty sure the alien piper was called:
"Je-Thro Tuhl"
Just don't stand too close to him. He has Locomotive Breath.

Well you made me watch a bunch of bagpipe videos.
Now I want to see massed pipes and drums lead a charge across an alien battle field.
Bagpipes, when played correctly, are excellent for igniting willpower

I just realized the Invaders are death angels from the quiet place.
From what the story tells, they look like it. ...Just a bit smarter? (They have Tech 'n stuff, Broadcasting the "hunt and games")
That's what they reminded me of as well. Some differences, but much similarity.

NGL I'd be pissed as hell if our galactic neighbors were forced into silence.
Same, it would certainly be enough to make me choose violence
