Cave Houses, Son Bou, Menorca, March 2023

Setting off to explore the lovely caves in the rocks in Son Bou which is a little resort on the south coast of Menorca. When we think about Son Bou, the first thing that comes to mind is its extremely long stretch of beach which gently drops into the clear, calm waters, the ideal beach for young families. This beach also has disabled access too. Behind the beach, Prat de Son Bou nature reserve has beautiful dunes, marshes, and diverse birdlife and a lovely walk inland along the Cami de Cavalls. Due to its fairly central location and the facilities available, Son Bou is the ideal place to stay in Menorca with a family. You’ll find hotels and apartments for families, such as the Royal Son Bou Family Club, or quieter hotels such as Valentín Son Bou, in Torre Solí Nou. There’s also a wide range of apartments and villas available to rent here too. In the video, you see the paleochristian basilisk of Son Bou is one of the oldest religious constructions on the island. Its origin may be influenced by foreigners from Africa and the Far East. It is chronologically located between the 5th and 6th centuries.
We couldn't find out much information about the caves themselves. As a child, I remember being told the caves were inhabited by hippies who later got rehoused in Alaior but the whole history, we are still unsure of and who owns them now, no idea. If you have information, please comment below;.
There are many great local bars and restaurants open in season. We love an English breakfast in the Kit Kat bar and the Son Bou restaurant is great too for lunch and dinner. The bonus is they have a swimming pool that you can use if you're eating at the restaurant. Delicious food!

We’re Chris, Cat, and Rolo our chocolate labrador. We live full time in our self-converted 7.5 tonne DAF LF 45 Lorry traveling around Europe. We've traveled in motorhomes for over 15 years all over Europe and I cat lived in a motorhome in NZ traveling over 25 years ago with my girls then aged 3 months and 3 years old. Motorhoming and traveling are not new to us it has been a way of life for many years but we decided life is too short and we wanted to live a simpler life and go full-time. We downsized from a 4-bedroom family home to buy our 7.5-tonne lorry and spent two years converting our lorry to become our tiny home on wheels. it was a grueling and hard slog building our own tiny home on wheels but worth it in the end, as we have our own unique home to travel with on wheels.
