This girl just kept breaking my heart. Everyone wanted her to do so well but sadly it just never came together on the international scene. A pity, as she was clearly talented and sweet person.

I know! She was so sweet and genuine and wore her heart on her sleeve. Everyone liked her and wanted her to do well. She was almost too nice at times, and wanted it too badly at times..

Thanks for this, Josee is one of my favourites, and she was so beautiful when she was on. Too bad she could never put two together. She always wore her heart on her sleeve, and was so warm and sincere you had to love her.

Wish her qualification program would surface some day. All CBC ever showed was her hitting the second lutz (which for her was incredible).

Would love to see that performance since she won her qualifying group.

You know you watched this too many times (VHS back in the day- like a mixed cassette) that you remember when she hugs her coach she bumps the camera. I watched her so much because Canada had the best era of skating- the full package but most of all all the skaters with heart. Thanks for the up load, no need for my mixed VHS anymore! Cheers

To this day I still cannot understand how being off kilter in one spin was enough to place Josee behind Bonaly. Josee literally did everything better than Surya . . .

      100% correct

Her quality of jumps wasn't on the same level as Surya's. If you look at the landings and height of both the double axel and triple lutz of Josee and Surya, there is a clear difference that Surya has a greater execution of jumps than Josee. Plus, Surya had more difficulty and versatility in her spins.
The majority of the technical marks are based on jumps and spins, whilst spirals and footwork are at the bottom of the totem pole for technical. So it would be very understandable why Surya would place ahead since she executed everything without wobbling, weak or insecure landings on everything she did.
Josee was definitely a greater "basics" skater, but she lacked consistency to nail the jumps greatly to medal at World and Olympic Championships when it counts.
Plus, I think they're awarding Surya based on her reputation of being a 4 time European Champion and among the top women from almost every Worlds and Olympics she competed at this point in 1994.
      This personally what I think.

It was all based on reputation. Surya isn't a good skater at all but was a huge name, Josee was a nobody internationally.

@@dougierichardson484 Whilst I agree reputation is a factor, you also have to think that Josee as a skater, wasn't a consistent jumper. Even when she lands some jumps during her amatuer career, many were naturally very hard/harsh landings if she didn't fall, similarly to how Maria Butyrskaya was with some of her performances.
For Surya however, it's naturally easier thanks to her gymnastics background plus her quickness to rotate in the air which is why she was the only woman to make so many attempts at the Quad in the 80s & 90s before the likes of Sasha Cohen & others made an attempt themselves later on.
Josee was a great skater but lacked the consistency in her jumps to even get a medal at an international championship like World or Olympics. Without jumps, there's virtually no way you can be on the podium in 1994 and even now

@@TheWayWithKhuwayne It really comes down to what the particular judge's POV was - were they seeing it more from the perspective you presented, or mine. 94 will forever be known as the year of "the whack", but it could also easily be seen as the year of the 5-4 splits - 94 Olympics AND Worlds Ladie's longs' both respectively were decided in such a manner, as well the difference between 2nd and 3rd after the short at World's for the ladies. One more judge in favor of Josee and Surya would have been third! I just checked the ordinals and didn't realize that until now, so it was actually closer than I originally thought.
