I pray that we, as human beings, can make the right decisions. I pray for the mental health of myself and someone very close to me. I pray to thank God for this lovely, wonderful world and especially someone I've had the chance to get to know even though we live so far apart, who has helped me so much. I pray that we can find some ways to find purpose, to be useful to the world in some way.
My prayers mostly consist of asking God to watch over my mother as she goes to work, thanking Him for the Grace that He bestows on me daily, to help me overcome my shortcomings as a Christian, forgiveness and finally I thank Him for my girlfriend of almost 14 years. Apart from my salvation, she has been His greatest blessing to me.

Thank you :) To answer your question, I often pray to God to ask Him to protect my loved ones or to help me help others I know need me, and also to heal my heart and give me peace in difficult times. He has always answered my prayers :)
One of the best prayers to pray is the "Jesus Prayer" As you breath in, pray, "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God," as you breath out, "Have mercy on me a sinner." Pray this over and over again, you'll be amazed what God does with that...

Another fantastic video. I completly agree with Jesus on the simply say yes or no situation. What more needs to be said on it? As for the question, I pray about a lot of different things. Most of which are overcoming sin in my life and asking God to help me do better in life. One thing I really love about Preposterous is how you use examples of your own life to help clarify what Jesus taught. I also loved the chiny, chiny, chin part. Hilarious!

Some believe that it is wrong. It is a sticky issue. That oath comes out of an Old Testament belief in swearing an oath before God. But here Jesus says don't. I would have to prayerfully consider it before I would do that in court.

No, that is the result of the parent's sin, which just goes to show the wickedness that can happen when God is not central in people's value. We have free will to continue sinning or to cry out to God to free us from it, but not whether to be affected by other's sin.
Where can I find out more about the statement where at 4:52 you say it was common in ~ C.E. 30 that people swore to their gods' for them to do things? It is a bit unclear as to if they are pledging something or pleading for something. Thank you

Jesus actually never specifies swearing to God, he uses a few oaths that were common back then but at the outset he says not to swear at all then goes so far as to say that anything that is greater than "yes" or "no" is from the evil one. There is nothing to suggest this to be seen as hyperbole.

Not punished. They're victims of someone else's bad decisions. Why God lets bad things happen is a huge topic that can't be answered in a simple youtube post. As Christians we just trust that God knows what he's doing and things will come good in the end.
Is it okay to simply say, "I promise that I will do that," or "I swear I didn't do it"? The Bible says to give a simple yes or no, but was that just Jesus's way of saying that we shouldn't bring God into our agreements?

On swearing what if you are a witness in court and you are asked to swear on the Bible. Then what I still say don't swear.
That's different- swearing in that context means 'promise,' not actually cussing.
