Told you to check the disa valve when you where in the area 👌well done mate no better feeling than fixing your own motor.i have a mechanical background and basically rebuilt my last z4 from roof motor to suspension rebuild over 6 years love working on these cars so easy to do now I’m doing the same to my coupe .most of the jobs are easy to do and you save loads of money think you should have a go at doing the rear pads and Sensor another easy job.over . I’ve shown a few of my friends how to fix there own cars once they start there’s no stopping them.well done though only a matter of confidence welcome to the spanner club😉regards Glenn .
Hi Joel. I'm just getting my DISA replaced. Im excited about getting it done. After seeing you do yours, I'm confident that when mine is done, it will sweet to drive again lol
@@itsjoel thanks Joel been trying to find my self with no luck booked into the garage on Tuesday so hopefully won't empty my pockets to much and changed the tyers from runflats like you suggested and feels like a different car
Have fun in LA I used to work in the CHECKERED FLAG classic car garage in Santa Monica .have fun driving the Pacific coast highway .there are no roundabouts and the traffic lights are in the wrong place oh and you can turn right on a red light takes a bit of getting used to but you will love it all the best glenn👍
Glad you got it sorted fella. If it goes again, get a rebuild kit. That short pin on the top of the BMW part has a tendency to fall out (as you can see on your old one). The rebuild kit has a much better design. Look forward to the next installment.
Hi Joel thanks for the video I got the same problem with my Z4 since two days it’s shaking/vibrating while car is stopped! I went to check It in garage what’s the problem is but what I heard from them is it’s a ignition coil trouble which will cost me 1000$ at Bmw service Center
Congrats!. Glad you caught that DISA valve failure. I have heard that it is possible for that pin to come lose and end up somewhere in your engine causing catastrophic damage. Crisis averted.
The flap and pin on that disa valve are gone when checking mines. Should i be really worried? Or is it possible the previos owner purposely did that for more horsepower. Im worried those pieces are in my engine
arrrrgggggg dude you should of just brought a rebuild kit, with the upgraded rebuild kit you get a nut and bolt and alloy flap this is way better than the bmw one, it gets rid of the dodgy pin that can pop off and fly up you engine....
I’m sure the replacement part will be fine for the period of time I’ll still have the car for. The reason I didn’t buy the kit, is because I was able to get a part the same day, meaning I could use my car again!
Hi Joel, it's great that you succeeded in repairing your disa! I am feeling with you, when something is wrong with the car, because it's clearly to see: you love your car. Good luck from germany
I've done a few US roadtrips and that's amazing good fun! Drive a bit of Highway 1 if you can. Especially if your Mustang rental is a convertible. The drive from LA to LV is relatively boring, but LV is worth a visit. And make visiting Zion N.P. a priority!! Check the website to see if and whether stuff will be closed due to changing of seasons, but it's well worth a visit. One of the highlights of the trip I did with my buddy a few years ago. We rented a Chevrolet Tahoe, the big SUV, because we did a lot of camping out there. Deffo want a V8 when going to the States right!? ;) Best of luck and see if you can share some of the excitement in some video's. Who doesn't love a roadtrip vlog? Lars, from the Dutch 325i E92
Bit late now but you should have bought a DISA rebuild kit for £65. Much better metal parts that changes the way it all goes together and can't fail like the standard one. As for that garage you use, you need to find yourself a specialist, they would have identified the problem in seconds.
Hello joel mate! I want to say I am really happy to see u solved the problem with ur z; I live in Lebanon and the roads here are more than terrible *extremely Bad* I started to look for a e85 to buy and honestly eveyone is telling me not to buy it because of the poor ride quality even with conventional tires. What do you think?
Hi Joel, when you replaced the valve did you need to replace any other parts i.e. rubber seals and if so did those come with the valve from BMW? Also any special tools needed for replacing it?
@@itsjoel thanks Joel 😁 haven't taken the valve out yet to inspect it but seem to be suffering from all the same symptoms you were in your video. Gonna have a go at doing it myself soon so will let you know how it goes.
If you are still going to L.A. you might consider contacting Steven Smith of the SoCal Zs club. The club website can be found on Facebook. Also, a company called TURO (via TURO app) may offer within your budget a rental sports car. Possibly a Z4 or something more exotic. Enjoy your American visit.
Excellent SoCal choice. Just remember to drive on the right side of the road, keep up with traffic and never, never let anybody see you sweat! Enjoy...
I know I'm late to this video, but you already cater well to this niche, so increasing the breadth of content would be a good thing. Especially practical stuff, which would help you learn too. Also have you considered having your ecu remapped? The company I use promises +20hp/tourque, and if its anything like the cars I've had done it significantly increases drivability by increasing the usable powerband, and total rev range. Which makes it both more fun, and more economical when cruising. Just for your info: www.celtictuning.co.uk/component/ctvc/bmw/z4-e85-e86-2002-2008/petrol/3-0i-231-bhp-2002-2008-ECU-remap-chiptuning/stage-1?year=2004#t3-content
Well done mate, glad it's fixed, it's always nice when you do it yaself, not so nice in the snow, but still good. And dont worry about the vid, sometimes it's good to do a few basic vids, I bet someone out there will get info from it that really helps them out, you'd be surprised and I bet you get loads of likes for it.
You'd be amazed by what you can fix on your own car. It's almost always worth having a go. Worse case you have to drive to a garage and have them fix the fault and any further complications you've caused. Research and be careful. Luv and Peace.
No better feeling than fixing your car! Glad you managed to sort it.

Bobby Singh Wiltshire 👍
I had a Mustang whilst I was working out there, absolutely incredible vehicle
Can’t wait!
Glad you fixed it mate and proud of you for getting your hands dirty
Thanks mate
Hi Joel. I'm just getting my DISA replaced. Im excited about getting it done. After seeing you do yours, I'm confident that when mine is done, it will sweet to drive again lol
Some 19" BMW CSL wheels and a hardtop for winter would transform this car, I plan on getting a Z4 and doing just that.
Fantastic well done pal been having a nightmare with my z4 I have an oil leak
Thanks Daniel, ahh man - hope you get it sorted!

Exactly!

I'm glad your Z4 is fixed.
Thanks Laura, me too!
Great news!
See my post from just re: It not sounding like the MAF.
Also....Now time to change your garage!
So glad it’s fixed good luck with the road trip look forward to that
Cheers Steve!
Congrats!. Glad you caught that DISA valve failure. I have heard that it is possible for that pin to come lose and end up somewhere in your engine causing catastrophic damage. Crisis averted.
Yeah, it probably wasn’t too many miles off from being catastrophic either!
My pin and flap are missing when checking my disa valve. Am I in for catastrophic damage? I think it has been a long time like that
Just checked my DISA and it was just as bad as yours but my metal pin fell straight out 😂 Just ordered a rebuild kit from X8F
The flap and pin on that disa valve are gone when checking mines. Should i be really worried? Or is it possible the previos owner purposely did that for more horsepower. Im worried those pieces are in my engine
Glad you fixed that valve, could have been really bad, had the pin broken completely...I said that might be it, last time..
I know, so relived!
Glad you fixed your car. Really liking your channel
It's the z4 love and community! Keep up the the videos!

LOL Bro Zion is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Capitol Reef NP in Utah is as well

Top mounts need doing at some point too (you probably have done it by now haha). Well done fixing it mate.
New DISA valve has the same problem. You'd better repair old one using repair kit which includes steel parts!
what the symptoms and any fault codes thrown?
Well done Joel engine sounds sweet now.
Cheers George
what was causing this disa valve ? do you have video ?
Hi Joel, when you replaced the valve did you need to replace any other parts i.e. rubber seals and if so did those come with the valve from BMW? Also any special tools needed for replacing it?
No, literally just the valve. You need a screwdriver to undo a couple of screws, then you just unplug it, and pull it out!
@@itsjoel thanks Joel 😁 haven't taken the valve out yet to inspect it but seem to be suffering from all the same symptoms you were in your video. Gonna have a go at doing it myself soon so will let you know how it goes.

Great job! Well done!
How much did the DISA valve cost from BMW?
Hooray! Catastrophic engine damage if you hadn't fixed it in time, so that's a double win!
Yaaay!
Excellent video...I think you should do a video of how you changed your disa valve and checking the vacuum pipes.
Ill check that piece :D
It seems that i found a right channel XD
