Sadly for other clubs, barring maybe Saints and Leeds, the amount of young talent playing at community level in Wigan is HUGE. With this on the field success, that will likely mean they get the pick of the best in local area, which is a hotbed. Wigan just signed a huge proportion of the all conquering Thatto Heath U15s side from St Helens recently which is a big coup.
the only way anyone can compete is by investing heavily in the youth and academies. Like at Oldham where they go trolling through the good amateur teams to look for potential to bring into the fold and mold the youngsters into good professionals. The icing on the cake will always be signing established players to give a team impetus - not just buying a team
@@rugbyleagueoutsiders all they need to do now is build a dedicated rugby league ground up at grains bar and terrify any visitors - you thought 'sheddings was cowd!!!
The long term contracts are a result of losing so many players to the nrl in recent years. There is no excuse for clubs not copying the youth system, it has been in place at Wigan since Graham Lowe’s day!!!

Great comment. Oldham are building very well at the moment.

It all started with Micheal Maguire.
