One of the best analysis I have seen on any channel - great job! This is how I determine which sets to buy and looking forward to similar videos in the future.
One of the main other variables to include in your formula is the 'pull rate'. Multiply each of the top 7 cards value by their pull rate to get their expected value, then divide by booster box price.
Good observation of the sets, i am new just starting to keep some scarlet and violet booster boxes and etbs ,maybe some 3 pack boosters, and was interested in the sword and shield era i seen some vivid voltage etbs put definitely going to pass now and look for other stuff to invest in,my last purchase was a fusion strike booster box from the pokémon centre they are selling them so you can only purchase 1 per person which i kinda like actually.
Fusion strike booster boxes are definitely the move if you can get them for retail. You must be in the UK or smthn where they still have them in stock. I wish we still had them here in the states
@JBTCG I do live in the UK the hype must not be the same here, I would love to go to a tcg convention in the states, some cool vendors I see here on RUclips, just starting out so I will have to go to some UK conventions, see where this journey takes me, I like how you go into depth with the chase cards and it's the most helpful when it comes to investing in some sets. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for your future endeavours
Nice vid. I’ve started doing the same but on S&V & using lowest pack price (so can include holiday sets). Pull rates would be good to incorporate somehow, and maybe extending to cards over $10. Looking forward to more!
Im not sure I agree your value ratio makes much sense from an investment standpoint, there's so many other factors that come into play, especially for modern sets that are still readily available. For sets from previous generations, it makes a little more sense because you're comparing sets that are all completely out of stock and harder to find. For modern though, you're comparing prices between sets where some are even available on the pokemon center website. Take silver tempest for example; it's not even sold out on pokemon center, the lugia chase is amazing, and it's the only lugia chase card we got in the entire SWSH era. I think theres a big investment opportunity there because the boxes are still a low price and in stock at msrp. The reason darkness ablaze bombed so hard is because we got so many other charizard cards throughout SWSH that were way better. I remember that darkness ablaze charizard vmax being very popular at release. This value ratio also didn't really take into account the trainer gallery, I thought it was weird you were adding up the top 7 cards of each set as part of this ratio. Theres no way you'd pull all 7 in a box, why would all 7 go into the ratio. In one box you get maybe one secret rare, but you can pull multiple cards from the trainer gallery in a single box. Theres also things like nostalgia, a ton of people came back to the pokemon tcg early on in the swsh era, I could see something dumb like swsh base or darkness ablaze blowing up like evolutions did back in 2020/2021
@@simpsondraws yeah, I agree that silver tempest still being available throws a slight wrench into the mix here. The purpose of highlighting the top 7 wasn’t to say that you are gonna pull all of the top 7 hits it was more so to give a solid estimate for the chase value in the set. For most of these sets you’d be lucky to pull a single alt art from a box, but a set with 7 alt arts with high values will outperform a set with one singular chase card like silver tempest. And yeah ur totally right that something stupid could happen in the market and people start buying up darkness ablaze or vivid voltage but I personally don’t want to invest my money in those sets especially because the likelihood of people opening them in the future is low compared to your evo skies and LO

Thank you very much!
Great vid. I enjoyed (and agree with) your methodology in ranking. I feel that this is something most others don’t do. Look forward to more!
@@brianharriman9756 thanks man, I appreciate you! What stuff have you been picking up to collect / invest?
please turn this into a series of video!! such a great video!
Great video!! would you do the same for Japanese SWSH or S&V sets? Would be a great watch
Got one on scarlet and violet English coming out today, but if there is interest I’d happily do that!

@@GrahamEckel good point, I might make a video highlighting the sword and shield sets that have the most estimated value per pack using that

@@Fobtrot thanks for checking out the vid! Yeah I’ll look to incorporate some more aspects of the sets to make a more rounded analysis

Yes do the sequels! If it doest make the video too long I’d prefer to see visuals of each sets top 7 cards:D
Thanks! and I’ll def do that for the next one
Something that isnt talked about, is supply. Supply will always effect price. Basic economics
can already tell this is gonna be a great vid
Thanks for coming back to the channel!
@@JBTCG ofc ofc just finished the vid i enjoyed how you had reasoning for each place :)
I really enjoy the Empoleon from Battle Styles.
It’s super unique and the falinks are a nice touch
Killing it, bro. Subbed

Great video bro you gained a sub

How do I know what the hits are and how many in a set?
You can look up the name of the set and then set list afterwards to find every card in a set
From x and y it's gotta be that gold rayquaza ngl
Yeah those mega ray cards from ancient origins and roaring skies are dope as hell. Probably my favorite too
