Wow. Very well documented build. Always toyed with the idea of swapping my box, but as you mentioned in a previous comment, there's little to no info out there. Anyway, very well done! Really loved watching this!
I am gonna dump too much money into a shi box to try and get a 10 second pass on drag strip with drag tires. Main thoughts are a yaris or a imported Toyota starlet. Being in Alaska if I ship a donor from lower 48 can get a Japanese import similar price. The scion XB or XA now on my list of maybes. I plan to tube cage it, power built engine and trans, turbo, limited slip and aim for 350-400hp as the c60 unhappy after that. E153 trans very spendy. Thinking for like around $20k to $30k can get an econobox to compete with $70k+ muscle cars. Great video thanks for the inspiration . Daily drive a 2003 matrix xrs. Got me interested in this engine. Much more interesting than a fast K series Honda, yawn those are so common.
Thanks for commenting. The Starlet is a great car to swap. The E153 transmission is getting harder to find and more expensive as well about $2k just for a good turbo transmission. I was looking for one when I was thinking of doing the 3SGTE engine into my Xa. I still would love to a 4th gen 3SGTE.
hey shouldnt this as well fit into a xD> it should have a bit more room bc it seems bigger than the xA? im seriously thinking of doing this and turbo charging it with a whole other list of shit...nice build tho and beyond inspiring for sure..any update on it?
This swap will definitely fit in a xD. Someone has swapped a V6 in one. Update: I made progress with rewiring the ecu to run on a 03 Pontiac Vibe GT ecu (matrix xrs) and did the coolant system. Ill post the video asap.
@@ModestJosh561 oh ok nice I've never seen the v6 in the xD it's so hard to find anything on the internet done to the xD very few ppl have much less owned them even more upgraded them ... I do have the 2zr that's in it boosted to 10psi and it's so much fun but I know the possibilities with the 2zz and the aftermarket are insane due to how much longer it's been around...a built 2zz on about 30 psi is the Toyota version of the most popular k swaps for the hondas boys but for us Toyota fans I'm stoked
Wow yeah that setup with the 2zz and your xD would be insane. Check out the V6 it’s on RUclips very nice and fits great in the engine bay. It’s amazing how hard it is to find anything for most scions on the internet. When you decide to do yours definitely document that.
@@ModestJosh561 for sure I def will and yeah with the turbo kit and set up i have all I will need is a 2zz turbo exhaust manifold and then everything else will fit on it for the most part...I may just do a built 2zr and then next project be a xrs or something idk but yeah it's so freaking hard to find Scion builds because they literally only made twenty-seven thousand of these XDS and then stopped production so 27,000 spread out through United States isn't that money compared to carollo's and others like that were there in the millions. At 10psi tho I'm pushing 250whp 221tq...I just want the higher rev which I can get with the built engine I have just need stronger springs pistons and rods
Thank you. I’m using oem 2zzge driver side axle and 03+ MR2 Spyder axle with half shaft on the passenger side. I did have to modify the Yaris hubs. I had them machined to fit the Scion Xa spindles height and depth.
Great video! Thank you so much. Do you know if I can lift an engine out of 2000 toyota echo without removing A/T. There is about 1.5 inches between water pump pulley and frame. Is this enough room to clear engine from tranny and lift engine out?
Hi Josh, how does a 2zz feel in a scion xa curious to know,I have been thinking power upgrade to my Scion , hope you don't mind sharing your experience thanks!
Thanks for the comment. The 2zz feels great under the hood of the xa. The car is fairly lite at 2380 Ibs with this swap it really moves and wants to keep going. It reminds me of a GSR swapped eg hatch alot of fun but feels swapped a lot more power for a car that wasn’t intended for it. It will put a smile on your face 😊
It is a tight fit, it actually doesn’t fit so you will have to trim about 1-1.5 inch of the frame rail out on the passenger side to fit and notch the driver side to fit the transmission. Once that’s done and reinforced it’s actually similar to swapping a Corolla. Not to bad at all. Just alot of time.
Thank you for commenting. That’s a great question. I would assume so but I’m not sure. I found very little to no information or documentation on the process on the XB. Back in 2018 we seen that white xb pop up with a 2ZZ swap in it and later posted a clip on RUclips of it idling but didn’t go over anything on what was fully involved. When I was looking at the pictures that were posted I noticed the passenger side frame rail was not modified so I want to say the first Gen xb may be like the Yaris, Vitz and no modifications are needed on the passenger side and only the driver side framerail needs to be notched to clear the transmission.
The cost on the swap will vary depending on where you purchase it from. Currently LKQ is about $3300-3500 and you get a complete motor with transmission, ecu and wire harness. If you don’t mind removing the swap yourself you could buy an 03-07 Pontiac Vibe GT (preferably an 03) with the 2zz in it and those go for $2500-3300 depending on mileage and condition. And another option is buying that same vehicle from Copart. Super cheap and you get the entire vehicle. You can also look for a Corolla and matrix xrs but cost will be slightly higher.
My check engine light is definitely on. It was on before the swap. That last video I was using the XA ECU just to make sure the engine would start and car will drive. Now that I know everything works I’m currently working on repining the harness for the Corolla XRS ECU and wow it’s a lot of wires that need to be moved almost all of them. I’m sure I will have way more than a check engine light on because the vehicles are set up differently. I do plan on a stand-alone in the near future.
Great question but so many variables. Are you doing this swap yourself? If so once you have the swap cost factor in all the maintenance parts, mr2 axles, mounts, exhaust setup, labor for machine shop for hub bearing modification and metal to weld frame rail. I think I spent about 2.5k after the swap was purchased. But I did a lot of maintenance and also new suspension parts like sway bar bushings and new lower control arms for the car as well.
Awesome, thank you for the immediate response. I apriciate that. Do you know arround how much it would cost me if i wanted to do it myself? Where can i find the engine?
Your cost will vary depending on where you source everything from. You can buy a whole car from Copart and part out the rest to recoup some cash or just buy the swap from LKQ is a great option. A engine importer is another way to go, if you want to save some money, have the time and you know what to look for the junk yard is my favorite option. LKQ is currently around $3-3.5k for this swap guaranteed to run and came out of either a Matrix/ Corolla xrs and Pontiac Vibe Gt My estimated cost to overhaul the engine water pump, seals, coils, lift bolts, clutch etc under $3k I also bought a lot of parts for the car too like power steering delete loop. I will make an update video soon with the price break down and what everything costs and what I replaced.
If you are serious we could definitely make it happen. There are so many swap options. Are you set on the 2ZZ or have you considered any other engine options…?
When it started loping before you did the tire smoke pull it sent me 🤣 so cool my man great job 💪🏼
Thank you.
And now I want to do this to my XA. Damn that’s a kick ass build.
Thank you and you definitely should swap yours. The build cost around $3k with all the parts. And that’s crazy bc the swap alone cost about that.
Wow. Very well documented build. Always toyed with the idea of swapping my box, but as you mentioned in a previous comment, there's little to no info out there. Anyway, very well done! Really loved watching this!
I appreciate your comment. I can’t wait to update everyone on the swap and make a cooling system in the next video.

How much to do it right all the way thru?
This is so badass 👏 good content bro

Does it have power steering ?
No, it had to be removed. I might look into electric power steering from an MR2.

Verry cool video man. How much more HP would this give you ?
Thank you, the 2zz swap is rated at 180 hp so in theory an extra 80 hp was gained by swapping.
Do you think this is possible with a 1st gen 2005 xb??
Yes, absolutely it’s been done before and I think the xb with this swap would be cool.
