The pair of you already are amazing parents ❤. Lucky baby! The love you radiate, they feel that, every day. And, as a scientist who is (also) working on the role of literature for speech acquisition, I can tell you reading to your bump is actually not silly at all, but a great idea! Yes, true, all they hear is muffled murmurs, but they do pick up on tones of voice, prosody, mood and a few other things. Now they'll know your voices, and your tone as you talk to each other, to Toby, and to them, but if you read to them specifically, they'll get to know a certain individual "reading to my child" register. And once they come out and you read to them barrier-free, so to speak, they will recognize it and it will be familiar and soothing to them, prompting a positive association with reading from the get-go. Which has all sorts of positives. There is an actual body of science on that, which is exciting to a nerd like myself 😉. So your intuition was just right 🥰.

I was the same with my daughter pregnancy when I finished first trimester it was a painic all the time as no symptoms anymore. I ended up buying a Doppler and listening to the heartbeat - I know some don’t reccomend that as sometimes can cause more panic but worked for me.
Definitely read and talk to your bump, I did it all through my pregnancy and my girl is 2 now and her vocabulary and talking is amazing and I say it’s down to speaking all the time xxxx

P.S. Buy all the children's books you want! They love to hear your voice and the melodic tones when you read or sing. And you will use them when baby comes out later on. With my first, we read to him right when he was a newborn and on. He loved it.

I’m 16 1/2 weeks pregnant so these have been so handy to watch! And I’m going through that exact phase right now where I’m feeling more myself and losing the confidence that I felt from my last scan that I’m actually even pregnant, good to know this is normal x

I'm 17 weeks pregnant right now and I completely relate. Sometimes I think, "hey, are you still in there and growing? Are you alive?" Because there are days where I feel like myself and don't feel pregnant at all, and not quite feeling the baby obviously move. I feel little flutters and flips, but that's it and they aren't big enough for anyone else to feel either. I went for my doc appointment and it was nice to hear the heartbeat and know, "oh good. You are still alive and kicking in there." It is a weird period for time, for sure.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm currently 22 weeks and doing lots of research on products before committing. I definitely agree that it can be quite overwhelming. Interested to know which products you went with - will you be sharing which travel system & bedside crib or any other products? Like you said, you don't know what you want until you start using it.
