Funny that was my second thought, after listening to him play! What a talent (plays 3 instruments too) and seemingly is a really grounded and nice kid. His parents have done their job by not only by encouraging and supporting his love for music but also raised him to be humble, polite, happy, grounded, and normal. Parents take a bow..too!
As great a drummer he is, it’s good to see that he is expanding his musical abilities with guitar and keyboard as well. A great future with the right guidance.

Hey Avery, 2 broken arms and still playing...and all the styles you've totally smashed! whatever you do next, drumming or otherwise, your determination and passion is an inspiration.
Of course talent is real. But it's a thing you work for. It doesn't come easy to anyone. It takes hard work. But if you love it, it doesn't seem like hard work. To quote Thelonious Monk "You got to dig it to dig it. You dig?" You either really want it or you don't. But anyone can learn if they really want to. The idea that you or someone else just doesn't have musical acumen is wrong. They don't have the drive. Young children seem to be able to pick it up like a sponge along with their developing brain and muscle coordination and that's why we see kids like this. If they're taught in a systematic way, they can learn. In fact, if one does not develop perfect pitch before a certain age, he or she will never have perfect pitch. You can still learn to recognize pitches but that's not the same as perfect pitch. It's a skill you must learn as a child. It's the same type of thing. Skills developed during the time of greatest brain development can develop faster and stronger. Keep that in mind if you ever have children or more children if you already have any.

My sweet baby boy Jameson Kaine Damien Helton (bad ass name right?) at the tender age of 5 is getting his Ludwig pocket drum kit by Questlove for Christmas Thank God I have been able to get this for him because all he asked for from Santa was a pair of drumsticks and some drums for Christmas and this video is very touching and inspiring to watch it brought me to tears thinking about how bad he wants this and seeing through you his dreams can come true. His father and I are both extremely into all kinds of music but mainly diehard metal fans and mostly death, black, mostly all the "cores" lol and we'll basically anything that's rocks and all sub genres as well. And let me tell you this little guy is so musically inclined there's not a second that goes by where he's not singing or humming a beat and he's been that way I mean swaying to atmospheric black metal since he was old enough to stand up and hang on to the tv stand or furniture and just has it in his soul oozing out of him. I'm so excited to see his face on Christmas morning when he sees that brand new shiny drum kit in front of the Christmas tree. Its going to be the best Christmas ever. Thank you for your inspiration. I hope one day you can meet my baby and he you because I know you are one of his idols. He knows he can do it because he's watched you do it. Merry Christmas to you and your support system. Awesome dude… I’m 58 and just starting to play as I am getting more time towards retirement … I had a set of drums at 9 years old and then moved across the continent and we couldn’t take them. I’ve air drummed my whole life and now I hope to be as good as you were at 6 by the time I’m 62! I just got my drums set up two weeks ago! Better late than never I suppose!
I knew the second that I watched him, he came from a musical family. My son used to hang out with a friend down the street from us. His dad has a band and he began to teach his son the drums. They are now about 50 years old and he still plays with his dad’s band. This kid can rock them drums.
The child was very lucky to start very early and not with just any musicians, I started at age 7 to take practices and others with other more advanced ages. I congratulate you brother, for taking advantage of the opportunities that life gave you.

Avery, I have watched for a very long time. I had 5 major surgeries and was unable to walk for 17 months and watching you play and the music kept me inspired and gave me the hope and determination I needed to get through each and every day. BTW My surgeries started in 2014 so I have been watching under this or my other channel since at least 2014. Your growth and progress is nothing short of amazing. I can only hope one day I can see you play live at some point. Keep great music alive and keep doing what you love and you will never work a day in your life. I’m 13 and I can play guitar and bass pretty well, am ok on piano, and can keep a beat on drums. Pretty helpful for my church’s worship pastor.

I don’t know about questioning the understanding of the parents when it comes to his career in music. Seems to me that the parents are who facilitated the entire ordeal😂
I’ve been thinking of doing a video like this once The Mothermold album comes out! I think showing how much us as drummers have progressed is a great way to learn from each other.

Avery, every year watching you grow as a musician and a person has been a pure privilege for me. I got a late start as a musician, and really wish somebody had encouraged me much younger. You found your passion early on, and your style shows how much you love it. Never forget where you came from, enjoy where you are, and never give up wanting to be the kind of musician you admire. This young man is incredible! What an amazing drummer. I'd love to see him do do Emerson Lake and Palmer, particularly Tank and Pirates. Carl Palmer was and still is a incredible drummer and I just bet he'd get a real kick out of hearing this young man play.
