Agricultural Scientists have been, for yrs, been advising farmers to move away from wheat and rice to lentils, millets, fruit farming, all that requires lesser water. But do the so called Farm Leaders do likewise. NO. There vested interests keep the farmers poor and the General population captive. UP, MP, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat and Rajasthan have gone far ahead in agricultural endeavours. Our chemical loaded food grains are health hazards and not acceptable abroad.
PAU current seed rate2024-25 are so high that eg 40 kg wheat seed rate= rs 1600 i.s (rs 40/ 1 kg) while market rate of wheat is rs 23.22/ kilo and same for all other seeds . how do PAU is welfare to farmers..???
Farmers can donate Re.1/- , or even less than per kg or a cap for maxium per farmer to PAU of each crop grown in Punjab and hope this participation will solve few issues of productivity.
Importing seeds and seeds oils involves private traders and they will never allow government to grow seeds and mill seeds in India for seeds oils and resource it from within India .
Punjab agriculture department is on shore of disband . Corruption in department is the main reason. ADO’s are not doing their job even some are not at par with their knowledge .last year an ADO of barnala mislead the people about harvesting methods of summer moong
B S Sidhu might be educated but he is completely wrong on the issue of sustainability of farm land. Rajewal has pointed out practical issue that farmer is driven by profit not sustainability in present drummed up capitalist model. Looks like every one is driven by profit irrespective of the fact that we are damaging environment and converting food basket into barren land through aggressive farming. Kenya is a live example of ultimate result of current pattern.
