The name of the video isn't fully correct. ANAMMOX stands for ANAEROBIC ammonia oxidation. So this is without addition of O2 and consists only of combining NH4 with NO2 to form N2 and water (also called 'the missing link' in the N cyclus). The process shown in the video is actually a combination of part of a SHARON process (Single reactor system for High Ammonia Removal Over Nitrite). In a SHARON reactor they cycle between O2 rich and O2 poor situations in a single reactor to reduce costs of O2 (and actually carbon scources aswell). The first step of NH4 forming NO2 after being combined with oxygen is the oxygen rich cycle of SHARON (driven by ammonia oxidising bacteria).
Besides all of this, great video and awesome system.

How exactly do you recover the anamox bacteria? Hydro cyclones? If not please elaborate. How about tank volume vs. Average daily flow? Are circular vessels any better then squares?

      Hi Steven
From my knowledge I know that hydrocyclone is used by process called DEMON (the most popular so far for municipal wwtp) to select Anammox bacteria from AOB and NOB. If you have questions just let me know
