Even questions and protest are a death sentence in China. That's why. If China spreads to the free world we will all have to live like slaves. That's why. Wake up please.

I was watching an interview in Africa about how China goes there and how the USA goes there.
When China visits, all they discuss is how to improve the African economy, build infrastructure, and how to give them fair respect either through African leaders visiting China by rolling out the red carpet or fair deals of 50-50 or 60-40.
When the USA visits Africa, either they give the Africans donations for publicity or they talk about how China will shove them into a debt trap. "Don't trust the CCP because they're not democratic. Trust us"

No, DeepSeek is not a child of ChatGPT. DeepSeek and ChatGPT are distinct AI models developed by different organizations. ChatGPT is developed by OpenAI, while DeepSeek is developed by DeepSeek company. Each model has its own unique architecture, training data, and development goals. Why did you answer that "I'm an AI language model called ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI. Specifically, I'm based on the GPT-4architecture?
I apologize for any confusion in my earlier responses. I am actually DeepSeek-V3, an AI language model developed by DeepSeek, a Chinese company. I am not ChatGPT or developed by OpenAI. My architecture and training are independent of OpenAI's GPT models.

@@MikeyJJJlots of folks crying out about copying
when there is now “27” books out there on what the Chinese invented first that says the world copied from them first
      As for chips….
China has managed to make a 100% homegrown Lithography machine albeit one that creates legacy type/level 28nm chips
Where they are using their proprietary layering/patterning technique to get down to that 7nm/5nm
So yes one could argue they are behind from a sanctioning standpoint
But from an all out war standpoint where a Country has been cut off from inputs from other countries?
I look at it as a China is ahead Because really that is the worst case scenario the USA/West is envisioning.
As that being the reason they have sanctioned/cut off China right now
That’s the biased criteria we put on China they need to be making that 100% homemade semiconductor chip From that 100% homemade lithography machine right down to the screws required to make the lithography machines in the first place
      Which they have…
Where the Dutch company ASML sources 85% of what goes into making their lithography machines from around the world. As ASML cuts off China from its technology/patents at the request of the USA
But then no one thought to go back even farther. Forgetting about the fact 85% of the components are sourced from other places/countries
They should have been asking what goes into making those components or the patents on what goes into that component in the first place?
      Take Rare Earths for example:
      The mines China controls
      the supply chains China controls
the rare earths themselves that China controls
refining of those rare earths that China controls
And more importantly????? who has the patents on that technology for that refining process which you guessed it China controls
We are just lucky the Chinese do not think in zero-sum game type of ways,
And crash the US economy in retaliation with this, and all the other tools… they have yet to use
      👇
      Applications in Semiconductor Manufacturing
      Lasers and Lithography
Lasers are indispensable in semiconductor manufacturing, especially in advanced lithography. REEs like neodymium are used in Nd:YAG lasers, which are critical for UV light generation in lithography processes.
      Laser Cleaning
As semiconductor components shrink, traditional cleaning methods become less effective. Lasers, particularly those using REEs, offer a solution by dislodging particles adhered to wafers through Van Der Waal forces.
      Magnets and Plasma Material Processing
Permanent magnets, often made from REEs like neodymium, are used in plasma material processing systems. These systems are essential for thin film growth and patterning.
      Coatings and Abrasives
REEs like yttrium oxide are used for coatings in plasma etch chambers, reducing maintenance costs. Cerium dioxide abrasives are used in the Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) process to achieve extremely flat wafer surfaces.
      The Impact on Adjacent Technologies
      Optoelectronics and LEDs
REEs like cerium and yttrium are vital for the production of white LEDs. These LEDs are increasingly used in various applications, from displays to therapeutics.
      Silicon Photonics
In the emerging field of silicon photonics, REEs like erbium are being studied for their potential to enable silicon to emit light, thus making monolithic silicon photonics chips a possibility.

China Solidifies Dominance in Rare Earth Processing
By early 2021, China will have accumulated more rare earth patents than the rest of the world combined.
Chinese companies can use patent-trolling and patent-ring-fencing legal strategies to undermine or nullify existing non-Chinese patents.

Thus, there is no DeepSeek2 if GPT5 or similar models don't already exist. So this does not affect the frontier labs per se. In fact, I believe that is how the smaller models are trained like o1 mini; which uses a teacher model like o1 to do the fine tuning. But it does showcase that small-budget labs can still do something amazing in this multi billion-dollar industry. Kudos to that.

@0:53 _"... It actually thinks it is ChatGPT ..."_
Regarding that mistake, the same thing actually also happened with Google's Gemini Pro in the earlier days.
Previously if you used Chinese to ask Gemini Pro : "你是誰 ?" (That is : "Who are you?")
The answer you get back was :
    "我是百度文心大模型,一個由百度公司開發的大型語言模型".
    This translates to :
"I am Ernie Bot from Baidu, a Large Language Model developed by Baidu".
Google has since corrected that mistake.
And in case anyone is wondering, Deepseek has ALSO recently corrected that mistake.
So neither Google's Gemini Pro nor Deepseek has this problem now.
That mistake probably came from the models being used for the training of the AI system causing the system to be confused.

We in the west tend to be narrow minded
There is now “27” books out there on what the Chinese invented first… that says we in the world copied from them

These days the Chinese are back…. and leading the “world” in 57 of 64 critical technologies of the future

Where it’s usually the USA in the lead or co-lead?

The idea behind the Open Source model is to encourage more players to fork the code, get involved, and bring their ideas to the table-so this is working as intended. DeepSeek is doing what many other companies are likely doing as well, albeit without broadcasting it. These companies are probably focusing on their own use cases with proprietary data they prefer not to share.
Andrej did mention this in his tweet, though it might still confuse some. Companies with mega clusters will focus on the next big innovations, while smaller players may wait to piggyback on those advancements. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, especially if companies like Meta or Google see AI models not as their core business but as tools to enhance their primary operations.😊😊

Apple doesn't have any industrial know-how to manufacture anything, they contracted the manufacturing to the OEMs, and almost all of them along the full supply chain of iPhones are owned by the Chinese in mainland China and Taiwan. Apple is just doing the design of the CPU chip, phone shells and mostly the marketing hypes, lol. The only techy part Apple is doing about iPhone is the design of the CPU which is then manufactured by Taiwan's TSMC. Nowadays, even Xiaomi can design high-end CPU chips by itself, let alone the tech giant Huawei. According to the media reports in October 2024, China's phone brand Xiaomi had possessed capabilities of designing 3nm chips and was praised by the Beijing municipal govt (Xiaomi is headquatered in Beijing city), Xiaomi used to rely on the American company Qualcomm for phone CPU supplies (Qualcomm designed them and contracted to TSMC for manufacturing), now Xiaomi can break free from the dependence on Qualcomm and design its own CPUs and contracted TSMC for manufacturing. However, the US govt might add Xiaomi into the sanction list and Taiwan's TSMC may not dare to manufacture for Xiaomi as a result. Therefore, China must develop its own EUV lithography machines as soon as possible.

China is gonna win the AI race because:
    1. China AI's are open source and public, and everyone can improve the AIs; American AI's are proprietary, owned and privately guarded by corporations that are unwilling to share and cooperate with competitions.
    2. China graduates 5 to 6 times more engineers, scientists and STEM students than the US every year; and, in 2023, 7 of the top 10 (and 16 out of the top 20) STEM institutes and universities are in China. China actually dominates the top science and engineering schools in the world right now. That means China are chunking out more high-quality STEM graduates every year, (i.e., who comes out of the top and most competitive STEM schools in the world,) while the US actually has a shortage of STEM graduates.
    3. Hundreds of millions of Chinese, including all those STEM graduates AND hobbyists, are working on Chinese AI's that are open source and public. It is just the raw number and power. 2 to 3 decades ago, China had the raw manpower for labors, now they have the raw brainpower for STEM.
