Honestly I can't help but agree. Their whole career is shadowed by self titled, probably the only album that comes close is their second one, hollowed ground. It is kind of sad when great bands get thrown into a perfect album limbo/dilemma.
Ain't nothing shallow bout that, straight facts. .. trying to figure out how to play that "straight facts" line into some sort of joke. But he's so fine he blows my mind.
I seen them about 16 years ago at a university orientation gig in Christchurch New Zealand. I've been to more concerts than most and they are one of the gigs
They're touring this year! I was looking up to see if people were still enjoying them live and from what I've seen so far people who have seen them in recent years say the shows have been very good!
I was 13 when this came out and it still hits just as hard. Just an incredible band that perhaps those outside that era don't quite grasp but as Rebecca mentioned they are on tour again. Would love to see them.
Was lucky enough to see them in early '80s, in a bar on OSU campus. None of my friends wanted to go. I think maybe there were 50 people there. Was indeed a fantastic show that my friends were tired of hearing about
Surprisingly as much as I tore apart this album I’ve never dug into anything else of theirs. All that I needed as well haha. One of the most unique underrated awesome bands ever assembled.
VF have been and will be one of the best bands I loved. im 49 and from the UK, old rave, indie head, 90's mash head. I had so many good come downs to this album. Fuck boy's love you.
Oh my goodness my first concert in about 1991 was the Violent Femmes in NYC. Been a die hard fan since 1989. I still plug my phone into my car to listen to them on my commute. Great driving music.❤️
Only truly great bands can perform live and sound just as good if not better than their studio album recordings. Note for note brilliance performed for the live audience, how lucky the crowd were to witness them so early in 1983, they were so unique and instrumentally inventive. I would have loved to see them then, but at 3 y/old I was a little too young for the admission ;)
in 83 Culture Club, The Police, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Dire Straights, Dragon, Elton John, Toto, Laura Baningan, Irene Cara....bring back memories? These were the 'top of the pops' in Australia at the time Violent Femmes would have been doing this concert...huge contrast in style. I was only a 9yo, didnt get into femmes til the '90's myself
Violent Femnes were hugely popular in Australia in the 80s. Cool people / true music lovers don't listen to popular music from the radio much, they buy vinyl albums and 45s as a way to check out bands, share the good ones, repeat. Also go to concerts in pubs etc That's how we did it and the Femmes were huge in Oz.
My brother in Heaven loved this band. His advice to his siblings was to never pay attention to the negativity others try to throw at you; forgive them then if they don't accept you for you; tell em all to kiss off. 🖕💋✌🤙
says this was '83, I don't think they had big international following yet plus I believe the femmes were 'before their time'...the world had to mature enough to be ready for their awesomeness! :P
Ya, they played my University Frosh Week in '83. Windsor Ontario, not a big gig, lol. One outside gig in the afternoon, one stage gig in the evening. It was pretty darn fantastic.
It was a culty following. For sure about a decade ahead of their time. They got real popular in the 90s again. Thats when i found them because it was my older sisters angsty cool kid music. Im noticing people mentioning them again. Theyre very relateable and thats why they experience the resurgences they do.
according to Factory associate Richard Thomas, there were only about 20 people in the audience at this gig - hence the rather lackluster sound from them.
Back when music was real. We drove around just to drive, smoked too much really bad weed out of a punctured soda can, took pills you had to order out the back of a magazine, and ate cold goulash out of the fridge with a dirty spoon. We suffered under the illusion of invincibility and thought better things were just around the corner. The disappointment seems about right.
I'm locked inside my house and can't get out, my parents won't let me out, ok, goodbye. And they bring all their equipment on the bus and you just can't fuck with this band. They age like fucking wine.
Who gave thumbs down? THAT WILL go down on YOUR permanent record
+Chuck D. I kind of want it to get to 8
hahahahaha!!
HAHA Yes!
HAHAHA! Good one. Funny. However, you know that people like different things, right? That's ok.
Well, it certainly wasn't Charlie Manson.
These guys were decades beyond their time!!
100%
They really deserve more widespread appreciation and acknowledgement.
I didn't realize they were an early 80's band. I thought they were early 90's. Definitely influenced so many bands.
Gordon's so fine in this concert
Hope you got to take him down
These guys created a flawless album that could never be topped. No wonder they didn't last.
Your mother lasted
They are still touring.
Honestly I can't help but agree. Their whole career is shadowed by self titled, probably the only album that comes close is their second one, hollowed ground. It is kind of sad when great bands get thrown into a perfect album limbo/dilemma.

This happens with many artists.
Writers galore. One perfect book, album , song and that’s it. A flame
Still one of the greatest songs ever
My husband thinks they are weird. One of my favorite bands ever.
Divorce?
tell ya husband he is.... VF KISSOFFF
Didn't you subject each other to some sort of premarital questionnaire prior to tying the knot? Hint hint, you probably should have.
Hate to be so shallow, but DAYUM is Gordon fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine here!
Ain't nothing shallow bout that, straight facts.
.. trying to figure out how to play that "straight facts" line into some sort of joke. But he's so fine he blows my mind.
smattering of applause for such a great song
agreed
They still tour and they still sound fantastic. Saw them in 2019 and it was an incredible show. Don't miss the opportunity to see them.
I seen them about 16 years ago at a university orientation gig in Christchurch New Zealand. I've been to more concerts than most and they are one of the gigs
This bands music channeled my aggression when l was a 15 yrs old and reminds me of great times.
This performance was amazing
The controlled chaos... perfection
This song never gets old!
surely doesn't
Been a fan since a teenager (80's) and regretfully never got to see them live. I still listen to them on a regular basis. They are soooo much fun! 😍
They're touring this year! I was looking up to see if people were still enjoying them live and from what I've seen so far people who have seen them in recent years say the shows have been very good!

Been in love with them since I hit the age of 11 in the early 90's.

@@rebeccacook8149 I was lucky enough to see them at Bumpershoot as a kid in the 90s thanks to rad parents. Such an underrated band
This song is currently fitting with the times that we are living in! 😪🙏
In 1987 my boyfriend introduced me to this band while we were hanging out at the beach. Still love their music. 💜
Dang 1983, I didn't realize they were this early. Pioneers of alt rock.
the rawness of it makes me LOVE this band they are still good today too
he was so wired,he should have been fired.says who? You,out hiding in the shadows, cause i certainly didnt say it.
Decades later, this is still on my short go-to list of anti crankiness, can't help but dance songs. Too bad we'll never know what 8 actually was.
haha well said. lucky number in Chinese
My theory, 8 was for memory loss, black outs maybe?
Eight? It's-Oh I forget what eight was for...
That's funny I just like the explosive 10 10 10 10 everything
Bought the cassette in 84... listen to em today.
I seen these guys a couple of times. One of the best shows I ever seen of them was when Dwight Yoakam opened for them at the Aragon in Chicago.
Loved them saw back in the youth we were
Look at Brian rockin that T40! That's classic!
reminding me why I had a huge crush on Gordon!
Haa I saw them and had a crush on Vincent
I love this album so much. Grew up to this in the early 90s and never knew it was released in 83' until like mid 2000s. Masterpiece.
I have always marveled that a band with such a classic album had virtually not much after...but doesn't matter...this was the only album I needed
KAFKUBA they never made such another “complete” album sure, but there’s really excellent stuff to be found on most of their albums.
Surprisingly as much as I tore apart this album I’ve never dug into anything else of theirs. All that I needed as well haha. One of the most unique underrated awesome bands ever assembled.
They done more than this bro, look shit up kid !!@
@@kemclau91 you should do,! It's a click of a button mate!@
I like Hallowed Ground. Very dark.
awesome performance of my favorite violent femmes song. wish the crowd was more into it
I'm so happy that this piece of musical history exist.
I wish I could have seem them back then.
VF have been and will be one of the best bands I loved. im 49 and from the UK, old rave, indie head, 90's mash head. I had so many good come downs to this album. Fuck boy's love you.
agree
i'm entirely too in love with this band
Definitely a damn fine band to be in love with : )
Samantha G forget about the band for a bit...im in love with you for the next 3 minutes ;P
the perfect time limit for love!
Loving the Violent Femmes is a red flag
love the very beginning. *_KEYISSS AUUUWWWFFFFF_*
back to the future, too good for the epoque!! audience doesnt understand anything, but they change their lives for ever!
crazy he's only 20 here
Oh my goodness my first concert in about 1991 was the Violent Femmes in NYC. Been a die hard fan since 1989. I still plug my phone into my car to listen to them on my commute. Great driving music.❤️
OH perfect for showing the emotion both sad and angry
Wow they are babies. ❤
The drumming is tight like a drum.
And the bass is utterly based like a bass
La voce di Gordon è un dono di Dio
One of the tightest live performances I’ve seen. That were on it that night, great stuff.
Masterpiece
Gotta keep this music alive.
Amazing frigging song !!❤

Damn damn damn damn this is what I need exactly...
the improvisation in the middle of the song!
How awesome is this!?!?!?
amazing footage wow

Yep i was six in '83. Got turned on to them in '91. What a band!
I just can't believe you left out the Smiths!!!@@
great recording thanks!
Saw them in Toronto around this time ...epic show.
omg they’re so adorable. i guess we all were. we or i just didn’t kno it at the time.
They rule SO HARD!!!!!!
Impossibly young and yet decades ahead of their time.
One of thier best perfomance of this song.... just fu_cking cool.
So barely keeping it together if at all. Perfect!!!!
Grandi Violent Femmes. E grazie al mio Amico Stefano Luzi che me li ha fatti conoscere più di 30 anni fà.
I can't believe this is actually an oldie.
If you are this age, teenage 1983, raw music, real playing of real instruments.
Makes today's performers seem plastic and robotic.
My brother in Heaven loved this band. His advice to his siblings was to never pay attention to the negativity others try to throw at you; forgive them then if they don't accept you for you; tell em all to kiss off. 🖕💋✌🤙
got this show on dvd fucking prized possession
2:14 guy wearing tie in audience is like "what?" lol I LOVE IT
incroyable
i was 6. it was nothing like anything else. bless
amazing!!!!!
I saw them 10 years ago and they seemed like they hadnt aged at all.

This crowd should be embarrassed they should be DANCING
That one always makes me feel good
I couldn't have been more wrong about this Band long ago.... I'm a huge fan now... I'm sorry.
Timeless
timeless teasure:-)
he asks the question, you know what they gonna say to you, , sad face first, the happy!!! we do it all the time :)
Great.
awesome
Gracias @Jazmin Yepez
Who knew that the Femmes knew Tony Wilson? Six degrees of Kevin Bacon.
Yes!
Oh my fucking God this rules
Looks like Marty McFly here.
That was a fucking tornado, thanks!

fucking fantastic
I want to have Gordon Gano's baby.
This crowd had no idea what they were witnessing
People are thinking: I thought Skiffle was dead.
Yeah it's like skiffle meets punk speed...The Fall had similar notions
Im in love
Yeah!!!
The guy with tie up front is my spirit animal 😐
Dude in front is looking pretty chill.
Great display of anger - even Victor punches cymbals
Your bassist is the love child of David Bowie and Johnny Rotten
I'm locked inside my house and can't get out, my parents won't let me out, ok, goodbye.

Gordon looking like a young Rob Lowe.
Esto no parece de 1983, sino de 10 años después
I know! Hes such a cutie here:)
Yeah yeah
⚡️💙⚡️
Lord, Gano was so hot 🔥
Dam I could really feel it coming out of Gano. Great performer man where is he?
Ray Finkle Still around and kicking
check their ig and follow their performances, he's a criminally underrated vocalist its insane how few ppl kno abt them
