  • In this video I follow along as Bob paints a sunset out over the ocean. This is my first time painting the ocean and it shows. I fell behind Bob quite a bit early on and I struggled to keep up. Overall, I am not real happy with how mine turned out. I did at least enjoy painting the fence and the clouds look ok.

Not bad for your first seascape! I recommend that you stop worrying about doing every painting in real-time with Bob. Even the most experienced painters would have difficulty keeping up with that pace. I'm a beginner too, as you know, and my shortest session time has been 5 or 6 hours. I think that if you allow yourself more time to explore, you will have more fun with it and you will be happier with the results. Another thing I noticed about Bob's lessons is that the first season is lower quality and it's hard to see what he is doing with his brush. Consider trying some of his later episodes, they are way easier to follow, I think. Most of all have fun with it! If you are getting bad vibes, walk away and come back later or start something else. You'll get it, I can see that you have a passion for it!

Thanks, Chris! I appreciate your views and your thoughtful comments! I have no doubt that spending more time on each painting and walking away when I'm not in that painting mindset would greatly improve my paintings. However, the way Becoming Bob works, I have committed myself to painting along with Bob in real time and with no practice off camera between paintings. I know it won't get me the best results every time this way, but I figure if I keep this up I'll get better. That being said, I am considering doing the series finale at half speed to help me keep up and get a better painting as well as a more special episode to cap off the first series.

You got the right size canvas. Which is my fail. I was trying to save on paint and canvas. I'm a fan 08-18-2020

I think the 18 by 24 canvas gives a good amount of space to work with without being too big or too little. Smaller ones don't give enough room to fit everything, and big ones are too hard to fill. Thanks for watching! Sorry this is like 3.5 years after the fact, but things are picking back up now.

Becoming Bob Ross without practice the way Bob did is a great feat. Good luck. I think your doing great. Your colors are way off. And your not exactly doing what Bob shows. The camera angles from Bob videos hide alot more than they teach.
