    The reason why truck kills in Pet Sematary are significant is because Louis's house is situated near a highway, which is frequented by speeding trucks. Therefore, due to Louis's carelessness, the cat dies, and a few months later, his son Gage also dies because of a forthcoming truck. The book is also inspired by a real life incident experienced by King, when his son almost got run over by a truck, like Gage.

      I was surprised that that Novel wasn't on tier one. Not to say anything about its content, but it is a novel that is used to teach in public schools and is very well known. And an iceberg is supposed to get more obscure as it goes down.

      Hannah Park fair point. it is very disturbing, however it could be more so to some then others depending on personal experiences.

    This video is amazing! I'll 100% check out some of these books later.
    One small note tho: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is striking and sad, but it's important to know that children during the Holocaust (on both sides of the fences) knew what was happening in the camps. The children of Nazis grew up hating the people on the other side of the fence, bc their parents certainly mentioned that they deserved to be there.

    I've read my fair share of disturbing books over the years. Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door, a bunch of Holocaust books (Maus, Night, Man's Search for Meaning), Harlan Ellison's I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Lovecraft's Call of Cthulhu. The Road took me a whole year to read, what a sad story that was!
    My recommendations for disturbing literature include three underrated short story collections:
    Sick Things, Vile Things, and Necro Files.
    Pet Sematary, like most of King's novels, could've been a decent novella without all the padding! Does Stephen King get paid according to page count or something?

    • @anthonyjenkins2001
      @anthonyjenkins2001 Год назад +1

      Not sure but 11/22/63 sure was a letdown by all the pointless padding. One of the few King novels where the padding was obvious and not good at all.

    I saw the thumbnail for this video when I started reading The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I thought, "It can't be that bad!" The thing is, Holocaust books always are. The Dollmaker of Krakow, another Holocaust book, has a fantasy element to it, and I still wasn't prepared for how dark it would be. Anyway, back to The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I just finished it today. I was not ready for that ending. So I'm coming back to watch this.

    • @bigb5206
      @bigb5206 2 года назад +3

      You do know that it was adapted to the BIG screen and it is just as dark and heartbreaking as the book don’t you? In fact quite a few were adapted to the silver screen with an outcry over the content. I have seen a lot of these deprived movies and even though I am a extreme horror buff the real life depictions of these people I can only watch one and have to wait before I can stomach another one. I’m not kidding lol some of them are way the FU$K out there and deserve there reputations! Sometimes the back stories of how they even came about are more deprave sick and twisted than the actual 🍿 movies! Take 120 days of Salo the director was actually killed the day of the premiere by one of the actors because they could not handle being associated with the movie. Wow and yes if you haven’t seen it yet it’s as bad as they say it is!

    Love this video and learned some new books to read also. One thing to comment, in Pet Semetary honestly the son getting hit by a truck and still be terrifying. I am not a parent but I can see real fear in the idea of my child running out infront of a truck and being killed and it's terrifying because it's a realistic fear for any parent and could happen anytime in the real world. #StephenKing is brilliant not just for the fictional monsters he creates but also invoking the very real fears that would leave you looking over your shoulder when you close your book.

    Nobody's mentioned martin amis's earliest works " Dead Babies" and " Success" which introduced him to the world very much as the l'infant terrible before he eventually wound his way to intellectual emanant gris. These books will fuck you up and I ain't playin'.
    Nabokov's Ada was just as pervy as lolita as it's about an incestuous brother and sister who plot to make the baby sister part of a thrupple.
    Don't forget The End Of Alice and Geek Love, either.
    Honorable mention to The Collector, which depicts the inner monologues of both the demented incel kidnapper and his victim throughout her captivity.
    For the intellectuals among you, Kafka's Metamorphosis will instil in you a proper fear of capitalism run amok and some strangely ambivalent sympathies for vermin.

    Better than I expected based on the size of your channel.
    I like that the summaries don't reveal too many details. I would prefer it as one part, especially since you can't see the full title. I also don't think (GRAPHIC CONTENT) is necessary in the title, especially since it's implied by the thumbnail. Feels click baity in a bad way
    📝 As a note for Japanese names, A is always the short vowel sound so "ah oh yahmah" 青ao=blue 山yama=mountain.

    Lolita was long and boring until the end something kind of diferrent happened, but it´s just a story of a man obsessed with a girl with 90% of the book are his pedophile thoughts.

    • @tiahnarodriguez3809
      @tiahnarodriguez3809 11 месяцев назад +3

      The book was meant to shame pedos, but for some reason people saw it as a romance...
      I agree the book is quite boring, but it’s also interesting to see the inner workings of someone’s mind, and how they rationalize their taboo behavior/thoughts.

    Is it fucked up that I love how Lolita is written? Yes I know the content is questionable but goddamit. The way it's written is beautiful! Adoring the way something is written doesn't mean it's a condoning of content in said written work. Remember that in your reading journey and you'll go far.
    If anyone wants to read Nabokov but you're uncomfortable by the questionable content. Check out Invitation To A Beheading or The Luzchen Defence or King, Queen, Knave. Nabokov wrote other things besides Lolita and I hate that Lolita's existence as a book overshadows the rest of his bibliography.
    *coughs* Apologies for going into a rant.
    Palahniuk is pronounced paul-eh-nuck. I personally don't think that Fight Club is the most disturbing he thing he wrote. That honor would go to Haunted. Which has the short story Guts. All I'm gonna say on that story is carrots go into places where they don't need to be.
    The Road is a good starting point. If you want to get into Cormac McCarthy being disturbing. And no, I'm not including No Country For Old Men as being disturbing. It's more of a crime/drug money thriller. No Country For Old Men is a great starting place for getting into McCarthy's writing in general.
    If anyone wants McCarthy being super disturbing with his writing. Check out Child Of God or Blood Meridian. Just, heads up. In Blood Meridian, the violence is described in graphic detail and it's more violent than American Psycho (somehow) but not as violent as Berserk. And I'm not spoiling Child Of God. But know that weird stuff happens to cadavers.
    1984 is only disturbing if you're heavily into political theory and social commentary. And that's all I'm gonna say on that as this probably opened a can of worms.
    Basically, I like that someone is covering a disturbing books iceberg.

      I love the way Lolita was written too. Especially the way Humbert says how his tongue reacts when he says Lo-Lee-Ta. It is something barely noticeable.

    • @owlcake
      @owlcake 2 месяца назад

      Nabokov actually put so much care into writing “Lolita.” It took him five years to craft the story in a way to make the subject matter look disturbing and not glorified. People sadly miss the point completely bc ew.
      Also remember this is video 1/3. Palahniuk DOES show up again with other titles.
      1984 just depressed me. What depresses me more about is how it seems like people like to use it as a cudgel when the smallest thing doesn’t go their way. Didn’t get extra sauce? “Omg it’s literally ‘1984’!” I feel like most people who say that don’t realize 1984 is even a book!
