This song is old enough that I think most people have forgotten it's actually meaning. None the less it's one of my all time favorite songs. and Dolores O'Riordan's vocals are so unique that the song stands the test of time even though most millennials have no idea of it's actual backstory or meaning. It was written as a protest against the violence committed by the IRA (A self dubbed organization of "Freedom Fighters" in Ireland. However the IRA are widely recognized as a terrorist organization by most governments. One of these attacks caused the deaths of two boys, Jonathan Ball and Tim Parry, who were killed in an IRA Bombing in Warrington. This attack is the main factor that inspired the song.
I'm so happy someone else knows something about this song past "no more war." When I first stumbled upon this jewel I had no idea what it meant and while listening to it I looked up what this song was about. It has such meaning that it's hard to stop listening to.
I'm happy that your happy! Songs are wonderful things filled with meaning. Both to the ones who write them and those who listen to them, It's not wrong to find your own meaning, but some times it's good to know what the writer was thinking about, and what it means to them. Enjoy the song Annie Cooke. Most of all enjoy life!
When I was a teenager I would crank up my stereo so loud to this song and my mom would yell at me.. and I would play it over and over again.. now I'm all grown up and I listen to it with my headphones and crank it up loud... I miss my mom she died in 2011.. this is a great song...

This song started with a low note, and heavy distorted guitar supported with heavy metals ,and not the least with the beautiful lyrics to say this world "In your heads".all the way this is song which always strings, guitars my heart and brain. And I cannot forget the strings, heavy metals and lyrics for my entire life.Even when i'm sick,i listen this song ,my entire body get charged up 100%.Thanks to Cranberries.

+KiAra McAllister It's about The Troubles in Northern Ireland, a skirmish between the U.K. and people who wanted a free Ireland despite the wishes of some other Irish.
Nicoletta Ciccone if you're going to be xenophobic and islamophobic at least learn how to spell Muslim. If anything, natural-born Europeans are the reason for the discourse. Always creating imaginary problems to blame on people of color.
Sin salir de casa más de un mes en por la contingencia y triste por qué mi familia vive en Yucatán y estoy lejos de ellos...escucho sus canciones para alegrarme.
i would have loved dolores and freddy mercury to have made a song can you guys imagine what it would have been like.gone but not never gone dolores the healer of my soul when i was a misfit

Just look around the world... Its about the English killing Irish in Northern Ireland - the discrimination against Catholics. The reference to 1916 is Easter Sunday when the British murdered unarmed Irish Catholics who were protesting in the town square against Catholic discrimination eg not being able to work at guiness and other companies and not being allowed to go to same schools as protestants
This song reminds me of all the pain.. The fear, the sadness, the darkness inflicted by the cold, evil demons who took all the innocent people out.
Great band. Even greater vocalist. R.I.P
Q romantica
I always loved the drumming

Zombie
0:48
Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And the violence caused such silence
Who are we mistaken?
1:10
But you see, it's not me
It's not my family
In your head, in your head, they are fighting
With their tanks and their bombs
And their bombs, and their guns
In your head, in your head they are crying
1:33
In your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie-ie, oh
1:59
Du, du, du, du
Du, du, du, du
Du, du, du, du
Du, du, du, du
2:21
Another mother's breaking heart is taking over
When the violence causes silence
We must be mistaken
2:43
It's the same old theme
Since nineteen-sixteen
In your head, in your head, they're still fighting
With their tanks and their bombs
And their bombs, and their guns
In your head, in your head, they are dying
3:05
In your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie-ie
Zumbi
Outra cabeça se abaixa humildemente
Uma criança é levada lentamente
E a violência causou este enorme silêncio
Quem estamos enganando?
Zumbi, zumbi, zumbi
Du, du, du, du
Du, du, du, du
Du, du, du, du
Du, du, du, du
O coração partido de outra mãe é tomado
Quando a violência causa silêncio
Nós estamos enganados
É a mesma velha história
Desde 1916
Zumbi, zumbi, zumbi
Rest in peace beautiful.....
