This was a GREAT video!!! I've watched probably hundreds of these videos and this is the first one that I didn't skip ahead on or get bored with. Just enough explanation but no talk talk talk. Speed up where needed. Perfectly done. Really enjoyed it and the trailer looks great! Nice job!
@@julieparker1954 You might want to do something that this hack didn't do and that's check under the metal skin for rotted framing. You don't want your old camper to fall apart on the highway like so many of them are doing now.
I didnt think cushions would look that great. It really tied it all together. Its like a new trailer with an old school look. I just love this. Very clean looking
I would have replaced the water tank (over 40 years if it is the original) because you don't know what toxic corrosion is in it, plus the video show that it was leaking. Using a stop leak product on water for people use is a no-no! I enjoy the rest of the renovation, great job!
My kids grew up camping in travel trailers. I bought my first one in 2000 when my kids were literally 5 and 3 years old so they don't remember life without going camping. Now my son is 26 and m y daughter is 24 and they still freaking go on just about every camping trip. They always talk about how much they love all the camping memories they have growing up. We have pictures galore too and they remember every trip except the really early ones.
Flex seal is some incredible stuff. I ended up putting 2 coats on my RV roof. Seals it, and actually seems to have helped insulate it strangely enough.
I am so Proud of y'all... Great Job... I am working on a Vintage 1972 Tiny Travel Trailer (I call VT3) Lot's of work... and money... My Travel trailer was brought down about 150 miles away... I looked under the bottom of the trailer and SAW that the Leaf Spring was broken in two!!!! The guy put (2) little 2x4 wedged in between the leaf spring to get it to my house... and didn't tell me about the breakage!!! I can't believe he made it to my house... LOL "Some People's Children" I swear.
Wow! You did an awesome job! This grandma would love to have a sweet little trailer like this to live in. It's all one person really needs! Especially, in Southern California where rents are so high! Congratulations! 💕
It's what I plan to do once I divorce. I've already realized even if I get my own home I'll never get it paid for by the time I die & I want minimal space to keep up anyway. Originally I was gonna remodel a storage unit but something mobile makes more sense.
Wow that's amazing. My husband and I redone our 1968 12ft. It was alot of time and work for sure. 2 days ago, just got a 30ft.1950s or early 60s. Trailer. Its in awesome shape. Few small spots but we will get it done. Inside is all wood work. Built in dressers also bunks with original wood ladder. Bathroom appliances all original. Super excited.
Most RV fridges when they don't work can be revived by removing the fridge then placing it upside down overnight. This loosens any ammonia sediment that has clogged the cooling unit. I've revived about a half dozen RV fridges this way.
Glad I’m not the only one. Well my friend and I aren’t the only two people who like it much better before they covered up the charm and retro character. Every other comment raves about the clean look. It’s just a sheet metal box now imo.
Wow!! The resertation was amazing!! I absolutely loved all the upgrades, but still kept the vintage character. I will say though, as much as I loved the new bathroom and cabinet, storage that you built, I'd have wanted a small shower in that space! Thanks for showing!! It's the size camper I hope to buy in the near future, that's been restored! ❤️
I have a trailer that is almost exactly like the one you have. It's great to see you guys make yours all new. I have been living in mine for about two years and wish I could get it redone. Thanks for the encouragement.
This is a trip.... this is my family's old trailer.... so many memories in that trailer. The reason I know this is our old trailer is cause of the cut out in that cabinet near the door! There was a Stereo in that slot....
very nice ! Perfect balance and the best part you enjoy this little gem free and clear ! It belongs to you. I love how you did this with every day materials & beginner skill set. Don’t have to pay 60,000 for a expert conversion. ❤❤❤❤❤ 5 hearts all the way Feb. 2023
You and your partner have a great sense of esthetics....Ive seen some camper/trailer reno's where you wished they had just left the original decor.....It looks fantastic....
Just found this video. Thank you for the step by step instructions. I love that you divided the work “room by room”. It made all the work less daunting. It gave me hope that I can redo a similar trailer.
Wonderful job! We had same little trailer at lake property in early 80s. This is much better than original & paid $2500 for it back then. Well done-enjoy y'all!
I agree: really great mix of keeping some of the earlier touches (like pattern on the couch) but updating where necessary and on a great budget. I too have watched hundreds of these and like yours the very best - kept the vintage look and your babies are adorable. Blessings to you!
May late father restored and modernized a 64 sprite single axle. He was a carpenter and master cabinet maker, so you can imagine what it's like. My brother and I kinda "co-own" it now. We both cherish the memories of camping with our Pop. My youngest daughter is 16 and the other two girls are grown and married up with youngins themselves. My oldest's husband bought a massive slide out fifth wheel. She looked at me told me it's just not the same as camping with her dad and Grandpops. Good stuff, friend!
Jessie, that's beautiful. My then-boyfriend and I redid a 23 foot 1979 nomad. I used water based enamel paint over the horrid wallpaper. I took the stove top to an automotive place to get sandblasted. The vent from the fridge wasn't large enough, so the fridge kept quitting. We used a larger floor vent over the space and never had any more problems. The big front window had leaked, and I suggested a piece of aluminum as a gutter with a slight v shape to cause the rain to roll off each end. It worked. I also had a small microwave that we put into the oven. It was a great project.
That trailer is awesome! We are fulltime RVers living in a 36ft 5th wheel. We started out our marriage 40 years ago and got right into camping with a borrowed pup tent. Loved it and processed up to where we are now. We think camping with your family makes healthy, happy, well rounded children.
this vid is a lifesaver! i plan on buying an old vintage camper (i have one in mind that looks utterly hideous-- i love her!!) and renovating it and this gives me a good idea on how to go about doing such a thing. my plan is a dark academia, gothic, victorian look that would make someone roll their eyes at how tacky it is :D
I live in a humid area of the country with hot summers and cold winters. If you use some of the vinyl tile glue along with that you will not have the peel up issues. Thats been my experience with it. You don't need a whole lot just a little to add to the stickiness of the tiles.
This is awesome. I'm purchasing a trailer to redo this summer and this was very helpful to see. I've never done anything like this before, but I'm so excited for the new adventure.
Great job, I’m preparing myself to live in a camper full time , so not to be homeless, I bought a camper for $400 and have to fully gut it, I have the tools and most of the materials but know nothing🙃your giving a bit of courage and excitement…I guess we’ll see what the future brings.thank you for a great post 😊
I just bought a trailer and it's the exact same as this one. Well I was gonna buy it but the guy wanted two lattes in exchange lol. Gonna be doing what he does in the video. Wish me luck
Doubt you will ever see this reply, but I have to say: try to leave some of the vintage character of the trailer! The orange and yellow stripes are iconic, and I never use that word. I have not seen one comment yet that is less than “amazing job!” so I guess my friend and I are the weirdos, but to us, it’s now just a sheet metal box. All the charm is covered with a black stripe. I don’t get it.
I really enjoyed watching your remake. I love doing that sort of thing and when you’re done there is such a feeling of accomplishment. Congratulations to you and your wife for the commitment. Finish product looks great!
