I loved the firts book and got more and more confused by the others, but i want to reread, I liked Ophelia so much, and i also loved all the powers 🩵🩵🩵
Your dress is so beautiful and fits you very well. I am in Germany and I just treated myself to a special edition of winter themed poems by Rilke. It is such a beautiful little wintery edition and is called "Winterspaziergang mit Rilke" (a winter walk with Rilke). The book is clothbound in an icey blue color and has white snowflakes on it and each poem is accompanied with a beautiful picture or drawing of a winter landscape. I love it so much!
It's the perfect time to read Emily Wilde it's basically a whimsical winter fairytale with scary undertones. I can't wait for part 2 to come out in january. I loved how Emily is competent and chaotic at the same time and the love story is really sweet and unique.
Thank you so so so /so/ much for this video. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for without knowing how to ask. The other day, I even made a reddit post asking people for suggestions for books that are cozy, comforting, and just feel like the perfect read for the season because I have been dealing with a loooot of stress/deadlines/etc. and could use something magical to help me get through it all and you gave me SO MANY OPTIONS. Thank you Emma and happy holidays! May all your next reads be five stars!
I read "A Castle in the Clouds" last year off your recommendation - was ever so worth it!!! It has won a permanent spot on my shelf and I'll be re-reading later this winter...such a wonderful warm, cosy winter read...
watching emma talking about castle in the clouds again made me realize i've been here for over a year. seriously, i love what you do with this channel ❤ i'm so happy
I love your winter booklists! Thank you! I really enjoyed The Mirror Visitor Series and A Winters Promise is my favorite. 🥰❄️ I LOVED Castle in the Clouds after you recommended it. Thank you.
Emma, I’ve said it before, but you NEED to read The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann. It’s literally the most Emma-esque book I’ve ever read. It’s got it all: a hotel/sanatorium for physically and mentally struggling guests, tall Swiss mountains, war trauma, so much snooow, and deep philosophical debates. It’s long - but you’ll love it, I know you will.
Omg I'm so happy to see you finally pick "A winter's promise" it's one of my favorite saga! I really hope you'll like it, the place in wich the first two books take place really gives big Ghibli vibes (and yes, the snow is really important too because it's on a freezing cold arks with snow everywhere ;) ). Also I know that some people are a bit confused about this saga but from what I saw, it's mainly due to the ending of the last book because there is a philosophical subtext that might have been confusing for some people. Thx for this video, I'm so excited to see your next ones! (and sorry for my english, it's not my mother tongue 😅)
I'm a winter enthusiast as well. I love the snow and the cold so much❤I'm reading "The Name of the Rose" by Umberto Ecco in december. The book's atmosphere matches somehow with winter. I haven't read much of it but it is already breathtaking. The writing is exquisite. Can recommend it warmly😊
You may have read it before but I really loved the book "Snow Child" by Eowyn Ivey. There isn't a lot of plot but its so descriptive of winter and snow and this sweet old couple. I believe it is based on a Russian fairytale. It was my comfort book last year. ❤
Aww Eugene... In high school we had to learn by heart Tatiana's (girls) and Eugene's (boys) letters. 12 years later and I still remember it word for word. Pushkin is wonderful. Enjoy! 🤗
Emma, you’re going to LOVE Elatsoe when you end up reading it! It has to be one of my favourite books of all time. It’s so well-written with the most lovable and charming characters. I was also surprised at how much the plot picks up too - I couldn’t put it down, and it’s the perfect cozy winter read!
some winter books to consider! I put these on my own December tbr because they definitely fit the atmosphere! Thin Air by Michelle Paver & Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik hope you have lots of fun reading your tbr!
If you haven’t read it already, I’d recommend The Left Hand of Darkness as a winter read! I think you’d like it since it’s a sci-fi set on a wintery planet that explores some themes around gender and sexuality (and it has a long journey across an ice sheet)
I love your dress! You look like a pretty winter witch 😊 im more of an autumn girl, but your dress wants me to reconsider 😅 Haven't read any of those books yet, but I do love the covers! Intrigued by winters promise and frostheart specially 😊
A Winter's Promise is one of my top favorite fantasy series of all times. If you expect a smutty romance, theres really not. It's more of a slow burn love and it breaks your heart. Ophelia and Thorn are in my thoughts everyday. ❤ The world building and plot line is well done and never a dull moment. There are some aspects that are confusing but nothing that can outweigh the amazingness of the series overall.
this video was so beautiful, all the picks are so interesting and whimsical and your love of winter is inspiring ❤ i just want to curl up in a blanket and read forever
Ohmygod you neeeeed to read the snow child by Eowyn Ivey. Its set in alaska, written by an alaskan author and the winter vibes and scenery and atmospherez, story and writing could not be more wintery. Its winter bookified.
I adored Twelfth Night! It was the first play I read for a Shakespeare class, which turned into my favorite class I have taken so far, so I have a soft spot for it. Just finished a reread of Castle in the Clouds and I think I loved it even more the second time around!!
I've decided to read Hamlet this winter too, and since I have Little Women on my shelf I'll give that a go closer to christmas!! I hope you love Eugene Onegin, I read it in high school and I can say it's still one of the best things I've ever read
I just made my December TBR yesterday! I'm finishing Trust right now, and would like to read The Nightingale, To the lighthouse, Where the crawdads sing, and The dictionary people. I also plan to read some short stories by Borges 💙
Love this list and the snow! I’m going to try some books recommended by you (Ice Palace - tomorrow! - and Icefields), Eugene Onegin, Lights (Sheets # 3), and Morvern Callar.
The video was a treat for the eyes😍 The whites 🤍 the blacks 🖤 and the natural light... 🕯️ Combined with the beautiful covers... My eyes are satiated. Thank you❤
Emma, seeing how many winter books you pulled off your shelf that weren't from the dedicated winter shelf, I think you need to create another winter shelf and eventually a whole winter bookcase. Seeing or hearing about snow footage from people in the northern hemisphere is always such a tease at this time of year as I sweat and swelter through another 36C hot summer day in Australia.
Heather Fawcett has become one of my favorite authors. I HIGHLY recommend "Even the Darkest Stars" and "All the Wandering Light" by her. They were my top two books of 2021. It's a duology fantasy set in a frozen icy mountain area.
I started "a winter's promise" last month because I saw it in one of your videos. Right now I'm on the third book of the series. I think it's very worth it to give the entire series a go.
Thank you Emma - your video cheered up my day. My current/soon list includes Ethan Frome, Red Doc by Anne Carson, a collection of Ezra Pound’s poetry, some Robert Frost, and The Sorrow of Angels by Jon Kalman Stefansson. That’s the second book in his Heaven and Hell Trilogy. I’m just a little way into it, but beautiful so far. SERIOUSLY SNOWY DEEP WINTER! And I’m looking forward to seeing what others think of its sentence structure.
Oh yesssss please read a winter's promise, it's SO good ! (Tho if you plan on reading all 4 books I recommend reading them close together, they are pretty dense and some people got confused because it's hard remembering everything that happens)
I've had Emily Wilde on hold at the library since I watched your last video talking about it so I'm excited to finally start it! I'm also planning to read Cranford, Notes on an Execution, Jo Baker's Longbourn, The Man Who Died Twice and some Christmas-y mystery or romance I haven't decided on yet. I'm also now adding A Winter's Promise to my library holds!
My December TBR is Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak, Small Bells by Lauren Owens, and The Lost Daughter by Gill Paul. We started getting snow here in northern New England too. ❄❄❄
TBR I have borrowed some books from the library. Christmassy for the most part. They are 1.The Arctic Railway Assassin by M G Leonard & Sam Sedgman; 2. Winter at Cliff's End Cottage by Sheila Norton; 3. Christmas at Thompson Hall & other Christmas stories by Anthony Trollope; 4.Gnome Alone at Christmas by Nick Pine ; 5 Aunt Dimity & the Heart of Gold by Nancy Atherton; 6. The Sound of Sleighbells by Janet Dailey These are my winter Christmas reads, I of course have a host of other library books to read, not to add all my own novels on Ebook, Audio, and shelves. Actually, far too many. I'm sure I won't get through them all.
A winters promise by christelle dabos is amazing ! Tho i struggle a bit through this one with the pace, it is the first of a serie and it gets immensely better. And it takes place in a cold/north arc
I just finished reading a Castle in the Clouds per your recommendation and I loved it, where I live doesn't even snow and it's not even winter here haha but it transported me and it was so nice to read
Arctic Dreams by Barry Lopez is one that's on my immediate to-read list! a couple of my fav writers have recommended it--it sounds like it's kind of a meditation on the Arctic that came out of the author's experiences spending 5 years working as a biologist in northern Alaska and Canada. so it sounds v wintry for sure!
A Winter's Promise is definitely a perfect book to read during the winter. The setting for a big part of the story has a winter climate and I personally found the language very winter-y as well. Does anyone else feel this way? I did read it in french, so perhaps it's less noticable in the english translation? Anyways, great plot, super unique characters and overall an amazing book(series)! :)
Just got back from a walk in the snow this afternoon, and it’s so lovely~ ❤❤😊 I really enjoyed both A Winter’s Promise and A Castle in the Clouds. Both good times~ So far, the only books on my TBR are Voices in the Snow by Darcy Coates and Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney.
i don’t have a planned tbr for december but i’m currently reading north and south by elizabeth gaskell, and then i’ll be re-reading never let me go by kazuo ishiguro with my sister 📚 i’m also going to be buddy reading a christmas carol by charles dickens with a friend 🎄👻
I finally want to read Hogfather by Terry Pratchett this December. I'll also, like every year, listen to the audiobook of Frostfeuer (Frostfire) by Kai Meyer, it's middle-grade fantasy. Sadly I don't think it's been translated into English, I think you'd really enjoy it - it takes place during winter in a hotel in 1890s St. Petersburg. ❄️
As someone who loved Castle in the Clouds based off your recommendation, I'd heartily recommend the Winterhouse trilogy (middle grade, wintery, hotel, magic) ❤
❤📚❤️ Such wintery, gorgeous books! Your dress and pearls are beautiful, and you look like a winter princess. I plan on reading The Toymakers by Robert Dinsdale. It was highly recommended to me as a definite winter read.
I am SO excited for you to read Emily Wilde… It’s such a charming book! Unfortunately I was impatient and read it over the summer, but it’ll be absolutely perfect for winter.
Love the dress! Very Classy and fitting for the Canadian season of whiteness. I recommend "Snow Falling on Cedars" - beautifully written. One book on my TBR pike is Orhan Pamuk's one word titled book, "Snow"
I’ve seen The Nutcracker ballet four or five times and am hypeee for your first ! I just picked a Nutcracker retelling called Kingdom Of Sweets for my December BOTMC pick. I too love some winter 📖🪱 ❄️ 💚
I am going to continue reading my unfinished November stack. I have not figured out the festival read yet but I think The Nutcracker and the Mouse King would be the one I will pick up.
December is also the month to HUSTLE to finish your GoodReads goal 😅
start logging those childrens books 😮💨
@@nbmki8542literally me with children’s books or graphic novels lmao
great time to read short story collections and poetry books (bonus points if they are winter themed)! 🥰
true I am 9 books behind lol
😂 Oh so true.
A Winter's Promise is amazing, I love the whole series! Really recommend:)
I loved the firts book and got more and more confused by the others, but i want to reread, I liked Ophelia so much, and i also loved all the powers 🩵🩵🩵
@@Mariela4444 Completely agree. The first and second books were great but I had so much trouble understanding the rest of the series.

thank you! ah I've never heard of that collection, that sounds like everything I could ever want, definitely going to go look it up - enjoy! xx
The Name of the Rose is set in December and it's so atmospheric! if I could go back in time I'd choose to read it next month 🤩
ooh I do have that one on my shelf!!
@@emmiereads And it has a mystery to solve!
It's the perfect time to read Emily Wilde it's basically a whimsical winter fairytale with scary undertones. I can't wait for part 2 to come out in january. I loved how Emily is competent and chaotic at the same time and the love story is really sweet and unique.
Your reaction to the snow is the exact same I had when I woke up to our first proper snow this morning! Such a magical time ❄
first snow of the year is always so special - hope it keeps coming down for you!!
