Looks like an interesting way to travel. I'll never get to Thessaloniki, but I have ridden on a train in Greece. To Kalavryta, back in 2018. THAT was an experience. I hope you're doing well. Enjoy Dublin.
Thanks Bob! Apparently they’re going to make this train even faster when the infrastructure can support a faster train. Will get even easier to travel up to Thessaloníki than it is now!
For sure! It's just too bad mainland Greece doesn't have more railways. There used to be one (not high-speed) from Thessaloniki to Alexandroupoli that goes through some amazing landscapes. Went on it years before starting my channel. Unfortunately there's no train service at all on that route now (not past Drama).
Yeah but there is no ETCS so limit is 160 km/h although lines allow for 200 km/h. Also the Kallidromos tunnel allows for speeds of 250 km/h but the ETR 470 cannot go speeds like that.
Hey, great video! Did u buy the tickets online or at the train station? Wanna take the train myself soon and I couldn't find any information about that, thanks in advance! ^^
I once flew from Athens to Thessaloniki with a stop in Heraklion (Aegean, of course). Looking at your log time, I would've spent the same travel time as taking the train! Seems the OSE isn't very much promoted, I feel if more tourists actually start using it we'll see more infrastructure enhancements. Everybody knows about the Metro, but hardly anyone talks about inter-city train travel within Greece. Next time I fly into Athens, I'll take the OSE from the airport to Stathmos Athinon/Larisis.
Is this connection still in operation? Connection search both by Hellenic Trains and Deutsche Bahn only finds connections with 4h 42min travel time and more stops than in Larissa.
Yeah cause after the Tempi crash the connections have been rescheduled and take more time and the etr train operates I think the IC 54 but stops like normal intercity. The 3:55 connection doesn’t exist because more stops and more slowly cause of the accident
I had absolutely no idea this existed. Shaving 2 hours off the commute sounds really good. But man I wish our station was better. Athens is so much nicer, even Larissa
Thanks for the video, but damn, trains are just an embarrassment in Greece, it's pissing me off. This is supposed to be a new train? It looks as dirty, slow and uncomfortable as trains were always here.
Train travel is very safe in Greece if you stay away from the trains. If you want to be a station master you can do a 20 minute on line course, or make a donation to a political party. If you're a woman you can perform sexual favours for a politician and you too can get a job in the civil service.
When you see the grass growing between the tracks in the middle of Thessaloniki station, you understand everything else!
Eco rails
This is the station before the major revamp

Wonderful video! Your video makes it seem like we are taking the journey too :)
Thank you very much! I certainly aim to make all my travel videos feel that way to those watching. Happy travels!!
what a beautiful way to see the country!!

Awesome video! I had heard about the new trains. 3:01 The seats look better than the older trains
Thanks Kimon! Yes the new train definitely has nicer seats too.
@@GlobalNiko Yeah! The old trains were not as good as this. For Greece it is a total new generation for their railway.
I've travelled on this train - there and back.
VERY GOOD VIDEO. CLARIFYING!!!
Looks clean👌so far no problem, arrived safe, more important.....be careful, and alert
The train is advertised to do 3:55, but it's scheduled to do a bit more than 4 hours
Great video! Is this the train you take from Athens to go to Mt Olympus?
Thank you! It passes by Mt. Olympus but this specific train only stops in Larisa, which is further south.
great video
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
One correction the etr 470 is limited to 205 knh in Greece

Online. If you go to tickets.trainose.gr you should be able to find them.
@@GlobalNiko Do I have to print out the tickets or can I just show them on a smartphone screen to the conductor?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hey global niko quick question when are you leaving for jfk because i leave tomorrow wondering if you were on the same flight dl213
I don’t know but definitely not any time soon.
When did u buy the tickets they asked you to give them your ID card?
I bought the tickets 2 weeks before the trip. ID card is shown when you're at the port before going out to the dock to board the ferry.

What is the speed of this train mate
It's designed to go up to 250km/hr, but the infrastructure can't yet support that speed, so it goes up to about 170km/hr for now.
An interesting trip!

They allowed people to board a hot train.
How long does this train take to get to Athens?

High speed crash..
You are lucky that you didn't die!!!! With the train cuff my friend...LUCKY!! HELLENIC FUCKING TRAIN company
Δεν θα έμπαινα ποτέ σε αυτά τα τρένα τα θεωρώ κονσερβοκούτια
Το βλέπω και μας λυπάμαι γιατί θα μπορούσαμε να είμαστε πολύ πιο μπροστά......
I don’t like toilet reviews on train videos.
Feel free to enjoy the other parts of the video then.
Why not ask somebody instead of guessing? You're not on the moon.
