I’ve just subscribed, you and your attitude to this industry are exactly what’s needed, for too many people come into this game thinking it’s a 9-5 £1000 a week job. I own a haulage company and my main priority is that my lads are happy and stress free, they aren’t taking home massive wages but for what I expect out of them it’s a very fair wage, they aren’t pushed, they are treated as family, if they need anything, all they have to do is ask. I’ve literally just bought 3 new trucks with every possible extra on them so it makes their work more enjoyable, all parking is paid for whether loaded or empty and I try my best to keep them at home on weekends and only ask them if I can’t cover the work myself. I genuinely don’t think people realise just how small the profit margins are in haulage and it’s a very fine line between getting good competent drivers by having the right kit and wages and having absolute morons that just want money and couldn’t give two fucks about the job. 100% I’d employ you with your outlook on this industry though 👍🏼👌🏼 keep it up Regards Tom.

Class 2 dray wagon driver here. Salary has gone from 26k to a touch over 30k in a year. Because exactly as you say, people don't want to do it. My backs in bits so I'm doing my class 1 in August. That's the trade off, heavy handball for decent money vs lower money for easy work. I'm now happy to do more hours for similar money (or maybe a bit more) and light work. Not a driver yet, sitting my training on August but when I pass and get a job commuting will be a big problem for me because every position I see is at least 50 minutes drive from where I live and the very few that are a bit closer are looking for experienced drivers
Hey bud good luck with your training in August. Finding a decent job when you first start out can be challenging, however experience is gained with time and some companies actually do take on in experienced drivers. It's always worth calling all the local ones and explaining your situation and see if they have anything to offer. I've had jobs where they said experience is essential but if knowone experienced goes for the job then they will have to take someone on for training, I wouldn't worry about that just yet anyway get your test done and then go hunting 👌
