Inicio: JOAN CHAMORRO NEW QUARTET + Friendship.
Alba Armengou, Èlia Bastida y Carla Motis.
Joan Marti, saxo alto, flauta y voz
Joana Casanova, saxo alto y voz
Alba Esteban, saxo baritono, clarinete y voz
Segunda parte: BORONDON BIG BAND feat Joan Chamorro.

Just finished watching the concert a second time. What a group of superb musicians, and let's not forget the arrangers of this music. And the technical people who recorded it.
If I had one wish, it would be that they could hear the applause from the over 38,000 viewers.

No virus can silence this heavenly music. These very professional musicians are more than capable of any task and are gracious to share their impeccable talents with us. Instrumentally they are more than outstanding, and the perfect blend of Alba and Elia's voices only comes around once in a long while.Joanna Casanova adds her special stylings to the book. They are all as beautiful as they are talented. It is a joy to see them having fun like when they are singing, "Ain't She Sweet".and "You Got What it Takes" .And indeed they are sweet and they've got what it takes! A great measure of the success of the Chamorro musical organizations is having the ever present rhythm master, Carla Motis' guitar to keep the train on the track. You can't overstate the importance of the rock hard foundation Alba Esteban adds with her baritone sax. She is incredible! The strange part of this new and novel experience is getting used to hearing no applause . Well, I applaud you all from across the pond. It reverberates from the clouds. Hope you feel it ! May God Bless You All with good health, happiness, peace and prosperity!

Beijos do Brasil !

It's such an odd combination of instruments, l can't imagine anyone would plan it. Like, okay, let's have a quartet with a bass, guitar, violin/tenor sax and trumpet and let at least two of the players be really good singers too. Then let's have a library of jazz and Brazillian music. I just cannot imagine it would happen but somehow it must have done so because here they are: The New Quartet. And what a wonderful quartet it is. Four people with truly amazing talent that do not just make it work but turn it into a super musical experience for the listener. This is great music with a texture that is absolutely unique; l love it. What more is there to say?

@William Errens: Nice observation and so true ... all part of the JC 'method' no doubt ... throw them in at the deep end with minimal safety margins when they're starting to get comfortable ... nowhere to hide on a huge, empty stage with no audience and the cameras rolling live ... ! William, I' ve seen Scott Hamilton on tenor, Elia on sax and Alba on alto sax. So 3 reeds up front plus Carla and Joan C keeping the beat. I think that number is on their Joan Chamorro Presents the New Quartet disc. I guess my point is Alba also plays alto. Yes, he picked three great young players.

What an unexpected Sunday morning (for me ...) treat for SAJB fans! A bit odd without an audience of course, but that's COVID, which is still rampaging across the Iberian peninsula ... glad to see Èlia Bastida among those taking masking seriously on stage, as social distancing was obviously a bit difficult. This collaboration between Chamorro and the Borondon Big Band is a new venture and it looks like a great opportunity for our SAJB 'babies' to experience working outside their Barcelona 'bubble'. The Islas Canarias have some excellent jazz musicians too, it seems ... I was particularly impressed by their drummer and hoping she would be given a proper solo to show us what she can do ... maybe next time? A full list of their band members would be useful too, as pointed out elsewhere, and credits for the video production team ... there was a lot of mic swapping which involved artists having to walk off stage to hand over their mics, which should really have been the job of the stage crew, but the audio was great throughout except for the fours at 01:29:39, where we all but lost one of the saxes. The interview between sets revealed that Joan had also given a 'master class' during the visit, so it looks as if there may be more collabs to come. R (Australia)

This must have been a difficult concert for the young band with no atmosphere in a big venue, no live audience because of the Covid, but they still turned in a very enjoyable performance
