Padme: the last dog rescued from the puppy mill

- Meet Padme. She was the last to leave the cages of this puppy mill when HSUS partnered with local law enforcement to remove more than 250 dogs from Oklahoma puppy mills and give them the second chance they deserved.
On March 11, the Humane Society of the United States assisted Johnston County Sheriff’s Office in the rescue of approximately 250 dogs from two puppy mills. The team transported the animals to an emergency shelter location to receive in-depth veterinary exams, where Oklahoma Humane Society and RedRover responders are assisting the Humane Society of the United States with care.
“We had an intense day and a late night helping these animals get out of that situation and settled into our emergency shelter,” said Shalimar Oliver, animal crimes manager for the Humane Society of the United States. “It was heartwarming to be greeted with tail wags this morning after a good night of rest. We are looking forward to learning more about these animals as we start in-depth veterinary exams and treatment plans.”
There are over a dozen nursing moms with litters among the population removed from the two properties. Several dogs are clearly pregnant and veterinarians expect more pregnancies will be identified as they continue in-depth exams. Veterinarians have noted that many of the dogs are underweight and have ailments including dental disease as well as skin and eye issues.
A neonatal puppy who was found to be in respiratory distress and was removed immediately from the scene for emergency veterinary care made it through the night and remains hospitalized.
The animals are not available for adoption at this time-we are focused on addressing their immediate needs while the court process determines eventual custody. We will continue to provide updates as we learn more about these dogs and what’s next for them.

In most cases of puppy mills, they do get closed down as there are animal cruelty charges laid. The dogs are confined and not given enough exercise or fed properly. It is good to see organizations like the Humane Society rescuing the dogs to give them better lives.

Lost my "Luna", Lab/ Amstaff mix. She was 9, Dec 6th to pancreatic cancer that had gone limphatic. She was in exploritory surgery when i got the call, that it wasn't a good prognosis. No symptoms that i could even tell something was up, till the hour she couldn't keep anything down. Including fluids. She was her normal self just hours before. Best care i could give her n my other girl Nala, same breed mix, 11 n a half yrs old. Food, supplements, regular vet visits bunches of extra vaccinations. Blood labs etc.. Don't know why i'm telling you all this, except to say i really miss her alot. Was thinking about getting Nala some more company. They were together for over 7 years! If i do, it will be an older dog from a kill shelter. 😊. Reminds me of two quotes "If dogs don't go to heaven, i wanna go were they went" Mark Twain n lastley "I try to be the person my dog thinks i am" unknown
@@jeffreylindsey1757 Thank you for sharing. I am so very sorry for your loss. It is always incredibly difficult and painful to say goodbye to our fur kids. Last spring the last of my rescue crew Bella & Thor passed away (cancer & old age). Both rescues, Bella was a mini poodle terrier and Thor was a mastiff-13lbs and 110 pounds and so wonderful each in their own way.I was devastated. Who am I without them? Well...fast forward and I volunteered to be an emergency Foster Mom to a Beautiful bullweiler who had been tossed out of a car on the highway. Needless to say, I failed at fostering because Baxter is now adopted by me and we are loving life together. It's an honor to be his Mom and he has healed my heart so much! I cannot imagine seeing beautiful souls caged in those conditions, suffering and sick. Criminals live in better conditions with food/water/bed, space to exercise and exposure to the sun and fresh air...

I found out 2 million poor puppies/dogs die per year from these, so just by letting these things exist for a day equals 5.5K poor innocent and treated like shit animals dying :(. We need to stop these, because I cannot imagine living like this. I cried a little last night after I first realized this happens, while my dog is happy and healthy. I'm in CO and volunteer for Lifeline puppies. We are able to find foster homes for mama's and pups until they can be adopted. Hopefully, there is a similar organization there to keep her with her pups until they are older.

Poor dogs and puppies! Thank you for saving all those abuse dogs! I pray every night and the authorities find these puppy meals and shut them down. How can humans be so mean and abusive to dogs! That’s why I support the Humane Society because they help rescue teams with dogs, and I’m sure other animals.

Do all puppy breeders get closed down or does it depend on the situation? I know a place here in a Texas this guy breeds dogs and wish it can be closed down I rescued one male poodle he use to use for breeding that was not good for him anymore and it just brakes my heart knowing they are just stuck in a cage and in a basement!

ALL puppy mills nationwide need to be closed down immediately! We need a BAN on breeding until our country can recover from all the animals being surrendered & abandoned everywhere! If countries like The Netherlands & Mongolia can do it, so can we! We need better laws & MORE ENFORCEMENT!

Great work. But now, what happens to the owners of the puppy mill? Will it start up again? Will they acquire more dogs? This is why rescuing is not enough. It's only half the problem. You need to go after them "legally" in court, with lawyers, to ensure that you don't have to visit that place again. We have to shut puppy mills down - "for good." If we don't, then "we" are part of the problem.

If people would stop buying it would put these people out of business real quick. Just stop buying dogs! If you want a specific breed, use a reputable registered breeder. I would love to foster or adopt one of these pups when ready. Info on that would be helpful.
