Loved hearing your recap of 1st grade! What a gift that you guys had such a wonderful school year together. Next school year will be 1st grade for us and I'm looking forward to it.
I do the same when my kids seem to hit a little wall - stop and review. Once that I can think of I just took a whole week off, but even I was feeling burnt out by that point. Great advice.
I’m so happy you mentioned that just because you’re switching something doesn’t mean we should, I love that because it’s so true, there are so many wonderful choices for curriculum and they’re all great it’s just different things work for different people and different families and different children, so I love that you made sure to emphasize that 🥰
Yes! I've had people message in the past very concerned because I had switched and they were now worried about continuing with the same curriculum. Hence, I like to make a note of it now.
I started with a Charlotte Mason approach to language arts and it just didn’t work. My kids needed a solid phonetic base and a spiral/mastery approach as they got older. For us the switch from Sonlight grades k-2 was to CLE Learning to Read and their Reading program that starts after the beginning level. Their language arts has been a great switch for us too. It has short new lessons with the rest of the days work being review. I have learned I am much more traditional when it comes to learning to read and language arts.
Christian Light Education has a great LA program. It is solid , yet gentle. Also, it helps your child become independent. Instruction is written directly on the book. The instruction is straight to the point, no fluff. I do use my TG for reviews, but on days when I have a lot going on, my boys can continue to work since the new concepts are in their book as well as mine.
We hit a wall with tgtb as well. It was sad but necessary to change. Same reason as you among many other reasons I had. My kiddo actually asked to change when I aksed her how she was feeling about it all. Too much fluff and she was being distracted by everything on the pages. She wanted to be more independent. We switched to Easy Peasy's offline LA la and math and she has been loving it. She's on level 2, 8 yrs, and finishes both LA and math in 25 mins or less.
I remember when I started homeschooling my older kids by the end of the year we’d all forgotten what we had used as I had to catch them up and we used a lot and changed a lot!!! We have switched my kindergartener to MWC and when we got our 2nd grader back we put her in MWC!!! Hopefully ur son has fun with his grandma!!! I find the new lower levels of TGTB had improved how they do spelling!!! I isr it with my kindergartener and 2nd grader!!! We are using the ordinary parents guide to teaching reading!!! Nothing wrong with leaving a curriculum for a while or going back to the start!!! I’ve done both!!! My kids love TGTB nature readers and I can read books!!!
Hi lovely, we are homeschooling in Australia and i was wondering if math with confidence kindergarten would work well? The money and measurements would be different but would that be an easy switch? Thanks :)
Love seeing how much you guys enjoy Math With Confidence, I feel like it’s underrated in the homeschool RUclips space!
Yes! It's not as "pretty" as other curriuclums but it is so much fun and works well!

Honestly, I feel like each year just keeps getting better. It's such a JOY to have this opportunity. :)

Yes, CLE is one I've heard wonderful things about!
Can't wait to hear your 2024 picks! I'm halfway through 1st grade with my son and I definitely picked a LA curriculum that isn't working for us.
Ugh, I'm sorry! That's always frustrating.

I've heard good things about Easy Peasy!

Yes, it works great! She specifically addresses what to do if you live outside of the US. :)
