A niche perfumer (can't remember the name) told me that with the IFRA oak moss restrictions, you can make a good chypre but you can't make a great chypre. May be true.
Your review on Cristalle edp was so positive. My fingers were crossed for a successful review of Cristalle edt. As always Dacob, thank you for your honesty. The O.P. Cristalle version fine put your spin on it-done. Now, put the ashtray accord back in. Thank goodness I have 6 bottles of Cristalle edt's predecessor.
Good to stock up on the predecessor. I love it too. The new edt has grown on me as well even though it is very light to my nose. Very fleeting in my opinion.
Thank you for the lovely review, complete with perfume history and brand strategy. It really is so painful to experience the loss of perfume history. As mentioned by others, our perfume memory is so precise that we only get the dopamine hit when the scent is almost identical. Now queue the flying monkeys swearing Chanel didn't change anything and trying to gaslight us into not trusting our noses.
Thank you for your honest opinion Dacob!! I needed to hear it. They really do sound like two different fragrances. I can't wait to test it, when I go back to my Chanel boutique.
God I love you Dacob! You are the best perfume reviewer out there. I’m going to give the new EDT a ‘Chance’ (pun intended) and accept it as a ‘new’ perfume…because nothing is forever and nothing stays the same. Even No 5 has changed over time (albeit, very little). I will also, treasure my 2000-something bottle of the edt. Thanks!
I love my Cristalle dry ! I hunt as many bottles as I can .. I have six till now and I will find more ! Thank you Dacob for the review… honestly I’m disappointed by the news ! I hoped that it will remain the same according to the ingredients!
Gutted they've reformulated this classic! ! I''m so relieved I still have 10 bottles of the original! Unfortunately for me people's taste in perfumes have gone bland and 'vanilla' and too sweet. Everything has gone bland its so sad!! I'm like you Dacob, I know my perfumes. My nose is very sensitive to these things. Yes I've had the same thing. If it ain't broke don't fix it or don't mess with perfection! ❤
@@essence-tiallydacob9611Thank you! I love it so much. I had to stock up! Lol I bought most of them on the cruise ships as they always had stock. I am heartbroken that they have reformulated this beauty. I'll try the new version one day.
It is interesting what you said about „the Olivier Polge treatment“, because this is, what happened to the wonderful old Guerlains as well - they all got the „Thierry Wasser treatment“ and this is, what I hate. When a Perfumer wants just HIS fingerprint - not for the good.
I am not sure how much it has to do with the ego of the perfumer. Could also have to do with the sales and marketing departments who might order the perfumer to change the formula in order to make the perfume more appealing to new audiences and younger consumers in order to boost sales. Many of the perfumers working at high end brands have their hands tied and cannot enjoy full artistic freedoms allegedly. Its a tightly woven corporate environment where nobody is really free allegedly.
Fascinating review my love wow. I never really gravitate towards the Cristalle and I’m a die hard Coco OG gal. Also, love the N5 edt for light clean skin scent for everyday wear. However, I’m gonna sample the new version of this edt. I love citrus but that depends how well the citrus is made. This might be something I’ll enjoy. We shall see. I love you my darling you’re the best perfume reviewer ever! ❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘
I so enjoyed your detailed review of the new Cristalle edt Super D. I wore the original today, and was out and about and it lasted a good 5 hours on me, and smelt so beautiful, and I remembered why I love it so much. That and Chanel n°5 edp are still my favs ❤❤ I still haven't had a sniff of the new one, will do though sooner than later I hope. I was saddened when you said it was going into "Chance" territory, as am not a fan at all of that range . 😢 Though cheered up when you said maybe it was going down the Les Exclusifs road. Oh Olivier and his obsession with Citrus....😮 I love Cristalle EDT, there is nothing like it, and maybe now there never will be 😢 I know I will buy the newbie, so watch this space. .. So sad when I think about Coco and her future legacy. I have her picture on my phone, and I cant help but look at it and wonder what she would think about all this, as you said in the review, it doesnt sound like her, and her personality, in this different iteration of Cristalle EDT. Oh well...life and progress... Thanks as always Dacob xx❤❤❤
Don’t worry Patrice 🥰 the new Cristalle edt is still lovely and I do love it but it is now, to me at least, more of a body mist than an edt… but maybe the juice just needs more time to oxidize a bit and maybe hopefully the smell goes a bit deeper… but I just miss my ashtray accord in the new one. Its still there but its much more tame in my opinion… not what it used to be to my nose.
Haha, it smells less chypre but not cheaper. I loved putting it on for the first time today! She’s a beauty, although not as deep as my small vintage sample. I agree it’s a more citrus, powdery floral. I love it either way. 💕
awww dacob. so sorry. had a feeling they’d try to tame the ashtray note, and sad they did!! guess i’ll keep hunting for the older bottles!! glad I have one; I’m gonna make it last❤less character is sooooo disappointing. thank you for the review!!!!
Glad to hear the new edp smells the same. I have not tested the edp yet but a fee people are saying it smells different so now I am a bit confused about the new edp. Lets see what happens when I finally get to test it as well. 💖
I’m so Shattered Dacob. I went to sample the new Cristalle EDT and found it has this particular after chemical smell that’s so evident to my nose with many Chanel perfumes and many other companies … since ifra perfume regulations. Wtf!
Damn that is disappointing because I had hope I can get another bottle as backup (shout out to one of my fav videos from you on backup perfumes that you posted!!!) since the ingredient list was the same. I love the older version because i smell the scent of “grit” that Chanel I believe exuded in her body of work. I will have to check it out at the counter since I dont want to do a blind buy and be so disappointed. I will say I did wear my cristalle at the office and you are sooooooo right, definitely not an office friendly perfume😂 Thank you for this update- saved me lots of money for this version of cristalle
Dacob… thanks for the review…it was stellar, per your usual perfume discussions! I watched this review before my bottle of the new Cristalle EDT (lot 8801, which you pointed out is from 2022 I think) arrived (which was today). I decided not to do a side-by-side comparison with my older bottle (which interestingly, is also lot 8801, so I guess that means it’s from 2012?). I want to experience my new bottle as it’s own entity, especially if it turns out to smell/perform differently from the former. So, I’m wearing it tonight, and my first impressions are very favorable… I mean, it’s Cristalle EDT!
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 Every 8 years, not 10…thanks for the correction. I just did the math and my older EDT bottle might be two iterations ago). I pulled out my older bottle tonight, which I was hoarding, and turns out, even kept in the dark, it has yellowed and smells “off”. So, I’m thrilled that Chanel has returned the EDT to rotation so that I can use it freely and repurchase it. I think maybe there’s also a difference in how we experience this fragrance. I get that gorgeous ashtray in the new EDT, although it is attenuated vs the older version. I’m OK with that, and understand how you want the stronger ashtray vibe. I hope you will come to love the new version. 💚
@@lisafox1001 omg, same for me as well- I recently got an “old” cristalle edt (also juice is yellow) and compared to my “newer” version- I dont smell the ashtray as much in the “older” one but the ashtray is definitely there in the drydown
The batchcode tea though...😳😳😳 I cant wait to hear your thoughts after a while because your first impression made me kinda sad. I usually dont mind a decent reformulation but i love the ashtray smell in Cristalle. Cristalle is suposed to be a Chypre...So sad😢 Now i'm scared to use up my bottles. I'm going to try it but if its leaning too much towards a 'freshie' now i dont think i'd care for it anymore... Thank you Dacob for this lovely video💖💖💖💖
Amazing review as always thank you very much! Do you think the new version of edt is closer to the edp version now? Maybe more lively and happy like the edp version?
Thank you for your video to raise the different of the original Cristalle EDT and the new Cristalle EDT. I love Cristalle so much! This was my first fragrance. I wanted to buy again the original one in December 2023 but they were not in stock. The SA didn't mention about there's any change of it. I was going to Paris in March 2024, was happy to see Cristalle EDT and bought 3 bottles. However, I found it's more light and not long-lasting than the original one. I was wondering did my nose goes wrong? Or I bought the wrong one? When I when back to my place, I when to Chanel Beauty and tried Cristalle EDP to ensure is that the original Cristalle EDT formula was going to EDP...But luckily not. After watching your video, you also said their smell are different. Yes, the "ash tray". So I went to put some new Cristalle EDT on my hands and put some original Cristalle Eau Verte EDT on. Then I found the smell is quite nearly the original one. It could keep long-lasting than the single layer new Cristalle. This is my experience and thank you so much to stimulate my mind!
You really are the guardian of the Chanel tradition Dacob! This is so disappointing. Only the house of Chanel would have the guts and artistry to continue to produce a fragrance with so much sadness and heartbreak loaded into it as Cristalle does/did. It's a work of high art and cuts like a knife. So for them to walk back on that now to simply appeal to current tastes feels so pointless. I guess we should be thankful they don't do a Dior and completely change the perfume under the same name.
I just got back from my local retailer and I nearly cried. I've always worn the EdP of Cristalle - yes, the new bottle is nice (and at the same time generic, because it costs less to use the same design for everything) and will probably attract new customers - but you've said it all in your video, I feel the same. I never thought that Chanel could act this ruthless. The magic and sophistication of Cristalle have gone. I also hate what they've done to Coco, the dry down is far too sweet, lacking the mysterious, almost medicinal character. But it is precisely this character that has made these fragrances so legendary, successful and beloved.
Thank you Michael. 🙏🏻💖 I still need to test out the new Cristalle edp. Lets see how it performs for my nose. But I am worried now that I have read your comment about the new edp not being the same as the predecessor.
Similar to your description of the new edt, also the edp is leaning more citrusy and lacking the dryer "ashtray notes". Right after I arrived home, I sprayed my older edp (silver lined cap) on my other wrist. Yes: big difference. A day later, the new version was gone, the older formula was still there and recognizable as Cristalle. My hunt has started already. Also to worry: the extrait of No. 19 is sold out on the EU Chanel website...
Interesting! I just got the brandnew version Cristalle edp and sprayed that one on my right arm, and the 2001 edp on my left arm, both at the same time, about 45 minutes ago. Can’t smell any difference at any point from first spraying them until right now 🤷♀️ Maybe I’m just lucky in having a less sensitive nose? 😉
Dacob, I received "the lecture" at a local mall when Givenchy brought back my old signature fragrance..... Organza Indecence EDP. Yes, this particular sales person tried to make me doubt myself.
They try it so many times. Its so annoying, and most of the time they don’t even care for that particular perfume and just want to sell it but do not have a personal connection to the perfume and have not worn it enough or at all to even know how just even a subtle change in the formula can be very perceptible by a person who has worn said perfume for many years.
Too bad. I went through so many bottles of Cristalle - and I wish I’d saved the bottles! I love a real chyphre but it’s difficult to find these days. My favorites a looong time ago were from Guerlain. Maybe these houses will someday get the message that there are still those of us who like an edgy, unique fragrance.
The age of chypres is over. Like in Lord of the rings… when the age of the Elves came to an end. New generations do not massively love this genre. seems there are not enough customers to warrant big enough profits for these brands to even consider pursuing more oakmoss based fragrances with chypre genres. Will times change again? I fear they will not change. Chyrpe was a genre closely intertwined with the culture of cigarettes, smoking in public places like bars, restaurants, clubs and airplanes even. The perfumes back in the day had to compete with so many other intense and strong smells while today all is neutral. Today we could never get a release like the 70’s YSL OPIUM. The disco club scene just isn’t there anymore. Perfumes like the og Halston or even Cabochard… none of them have a place in today’s world. They are all segregated to the memory of a few of us but they are definitely in an age that is no more. What does the future of fragrances bring? More flankers for sure… less new mass releases from major brands, more bland light formulas, less edginess and more price increases. Allegedly. 💖
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 Wow- great commentary. I hadn’t put all of that together but it completely makes sense! I also love the films from the 30s, 40s, and 50s. This is way before my time - I’m not that old:-)) but I just love the elegance and the stories and the drama… So I guess it also makes sense that I love that style of perfume. Thanks for the information!
I got mine on Saturday and I love it when it dries down. No lasting power though.. After three hours there is no trace of it .. 😢 1:29 Thankfully , I have a smaller vintage bottle that I can use.
Sounds like they made a modern version of Cristalle. Similar to what they did with No.5. “Cristalle L’Eau“ like “No.5 L’Eau“. Amazing review with all the extraordinary Dacob Details that we love and will never find anywhere else. Looking forward to the updates. As always thank you for sharing your brilliance with us 🙌🏻❤️
Thank you Leo 🙏🏻💖 yes, kind of as if they made a Cristalle L’Eau but unlike with No5 L’Eau, where they also kept the original edt still in production, here they seem to have just chopped it away…
The bottles compared kinda reminds me of the comparison to the differences of the old Bois des Iles and Cuir de Russie bottles, you made a video of ages ago ☺ The new version feels less exciting for me, that the old version do..and as you say, the new one feels flat, it's fine, but I don't know if I need the new version..the same feeling I have with the new edp version. Gorgeous bottles tho. New Cristalle is the ghost of the OG Cristalle. I feel that people who don't know the OG version of Cristalle will probably like and love the new version but to us that has been loving the OG Cristalle might have some hesitations to buy the new and hold on to the OG as long as possible, if that makes sense? I hate hate HATE when sales associates tried to lecture me on perfumes I have been wearing forever, telling me that it is still the same, even tho I can smell the difference, please stop! WE know our perfumes! Thank you Dacob for always entertaining and informational videos x
Thank you littlecooling 🙏🏻🥰💖 there was a short period of time when the four og les exclusifs were rebottled into what is now the old No19 edt bottle but with No19 edt being officially rebottled into the current Cristalle edt bottle, the age of the integrated sprayer in lid is officially over.
From what I have heard from my intel thus far, that would seem to be the case… apparently the edp has been reformulated as well but I have not smelled the new bottled version of the edp yet.
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 Thank you, and thank you for this review. Wholeheartedly agree with and appreciate your comment on the current experience with SA’s in store. The last time I went in-store and the SA was being pretty confidently condescending, I “gently” reminded them that everything they sell is available on-line, and that the only reason I choose to shop in-store is to “help them out” with a bit of commission. Changed their tune a bit. My approachable and helpful SA recently moved to the Handbags store, so it may well be the end of an era of proper sales relationships. And you’re absolutely right: save for my last drops and what can be found second-hand over the years, it is certainly a shame that my children will likely never have the opportunity to smell our experience with Cristalle. At least we were fortunate to be “forced” with our formulation - such a shame for theirs 😢
I have said for years that all Chanel fragrances I’ve experienced smell delicious while smoking fresh (only) tobacco. Granted, my experiences had been limited until recently to 5, 19, Cristalle, Coco, and 22-but all beautiful when everything around smells a bit like an ashtray. (Wish I was joking.)
Its been reformulated for many years… little tweaks every couple of batches. Ever since they could not source their original Galbanum from the middle East, things started to change…
Hi Dacob, how is the ashtray accord doing in your most recent bottle of Cristalle edt? I was thinking since the ingredient lists are the same on the old and the new one , maybe now after a few months ageing it regained all its notes? I still can't see it available in the UK :-(
Still mellow and light but I love cristalle edt regardless of the watering down process which in my opinion took place. The edt is not available in the UK while the edp is not available in the US.
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 thank you for coming back to me. How unfair - but it must have been the decision based on sales figures. How old would you say your old bottle of Cristalle edt is? The one you compared this new one in the video?
Hi Dacob, I was hoping that a reformulated cristalle would be a stronger version, at least, the same dna, to enter thé exclusive range, which would have justified the price increase...😮As far as I anderstand, this new version could be a Paris something or somewhere ? 🤔 The chance range is ok, but, they should definetly take more risks. It should not take to spend someone's all savings to smell something, or this is not luxury !❤❤❤❤
I feel like it is a body mist of Cristalle now… I still love it but the price is no longer good for what we get… but I will keep buying it because better any Cristalle at this point than no Cristalle at all.
I was in the Atelier Beaute yesterday and made it my business to try it. It is a beautiful smell! However that toilette is too light. It faded within 2 hours and I could not smell a trace of it. I wish it was in was de parfum...
I agree. It now feels to me like this current formula is a body mist more than an actual perfume. There is an edp but it smells different to the edt and has no oakmoss at all. I much more prefer the edt and I just spray away like there is no tomorrow. Haha. I already used up one fifth of the bottle in just one week 😭😭😭💖
Hey Dacob you mentioned that it looks like from the serial number they started production about a year ago. Wouldnt that make sense because don't they have to let perfume macerate for some time ?? I mean they wouldnt just sell it right away if it might not smell right potentially. Just a thought....
That is not the case with batch codes. Batch codes are numbers connected to the moment the perfume is filled into the bottle and prepared for distribution to stores. Chanel has perfumes in their shops right now with initial 9 and 0 batch-codes as well.
@essence-tiallydacob9611 I didn't know that. Thank you!!! Though I'm excited to smell this one, I'm forever a Cristalle EDP girl.😁 Plus I still have a bottle of EDT from a couple of years ago. ...
I grabbed the „old“ one … always. I‘ll miss the grumpyness. 😭 Just got another old bottle, thanks god. So, they were lying to me when I asked them because of the reformulation. They sad: No reformulation. :(
Its still very short lived on my skin but it smells lovely for as long as it is on my skin. Feels to me like a body mist more than an edt at this point.
What worries me is if the galbanum has been toned down as it is known in the industry as a more challenging top note these days. If I were reformulating for greater appeal, it would be one of the first things I would tweak. Cristalle has (or maybe now had) the best galbanum top note along with Aliage on the market and I'm worried that may be lost. I never quite got an ashtray impression but certainly a mossy character and it would be sad if that has been lost as you say as that would render it much less interesting, we already have enough citrus fresh perfumes.
@essence-tiallydacob9611 yes but there is absolutely galbanum in Cristalle, it is not as obvious in the top note as N°19 because it is a very original top note that incorporates it. I have seen GC/MS analyses of Cristalle - it's there.
10:30 This would be my same hope and prayer if they were to ever bring back VW Boudoir. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏽 As perfume lovers this is always our biggest concern. Scent memory is sooo powerful, and when we love a scent we will always be able to discern the subtle differences! So sad when they change to the point of being unrecognizable forcing us to hunt vintage bottles to have the OG perfume we remember from memory. I appreciate your candor and honesty throughout your reviews. They are always a joy to watch. ❤ Would you ever consider reviewing Chanel Allure EDP (1999 - Amber Vanilla)? It’s one of my favorites from Chanel. Also… I’ve noticed that some perfumes need time to macerate in the bottle a while before testing. There are varying opinions that even argue about letting them sit directly after delivery. I’ve also had experiences where vintage bottle have lost their top notes leaving only a smidge of middle and all base notes. Not that it was spoiled or anything, but that it just naturally aged and the oils concentrated and reduced and you get to the dry-down that much faster because of it. Then when comparing to a newer bottle, top, middle, base notes are all intact and that’s what makes it seemed like it’s different, but in reality it’s just newer juice. It’s such a sensitive topic and sometimes I think I need to document with a journal my testing experiences to refer back to because I never know what I’m gonna get from bottle to bottle. Lol
All Correct but we need to remember that with perfumes we love which we have used for decades, we also have the clear memory of how they smelled when we purchased them brand new many times over. I have gone through more bottles of Cristalle edt than I care to remember. Many of them were new batches when I opened them while others were vintage or a few years old. Many different bottles worn and tested. So I can evaluate this new bottle version clearly thanks to my past experiences with this perfume. Interesting to note that the batch code of the new bottle surprised me. Its age surprised me. All details on the batch code are in my video though. 💖
Sharing your disappointment, it would have been too good to be true if it had smelled the same as the og,,.Happy to have owned the og, and experienced this beautiful perfume through different seasons and moods.
I love Cristalle , the parfum and the toilette . I miss the old formulas. I'm lucky to have found some of the older formulations. Eventually there will come a time when only the new formulas will be all that exist , unless they get the message. I keep thinking of that old Scout song" Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other's gold". Why can't they practice that when they have a sure thing? Why mess with perfection? Why not just introduce some new formulas based on the old and still keep the original? Also ,is there a good unscented body cream that's made well and last a long time that we can just add a few squirts to it and have a new ,nice scented body cream? How many squirts would be a good amount? Im tired of good scented perfumed body creams that are here one day and gone the next😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
The chanel les Exclusifs body cream is amazingly scented and made to be used together with their perfumes in order to boost their longevity and give them a musky undertone. The cream alone is awesome too but its also great when layered with some perfumes. I would however not pray perfume into the cream jar. I would first apply cream to body, let it absorb a bit and then spray perfume on top.
Plus they don’t need to list all ingredients by law… so they can change a lot without us knowing it… so its up to our noses to sniff out the differences. I still love the new version of Cristalle edt but to my nose personally and in my opinion this new version is more like a body mist than like the older version of the edt…
Omg, that is so sad to hear. Can we say apart from the whole EDP Les Exclusifs line, this is the first « legendary » fragrance from the house of Chanel to be butchered in an Olivier way ? Now I’m super scared for Chanel 19 (EDT, EDP and Poudré ), Cristalle EDP and Eau Verte EDP since all these got a new bottle and (more than probably)been reformulated… Such a sad time we’re living…
I totally agree! It is sacrilege!! I'm going off Chanel as they have butchered my favourite perfume. I am not happy about this! It is so sad about what's happening in the perfume world. Everything is getting bland! I much prefer 'edgy' Cristalle.
So basically they did another version of Eau Verte. Btw the ingredients list is not indicative per se. They reformulate the perfume, which appears second on the ingrefient list. The rest are just adjuvants to make the formula stable.
like the vape version of an ashtray accord....but I wouldn't mind as I reached for the older Cristalle the other day but because of what I was wearing and the mood I was in, I was not feeling it and maybe this new lighter version would have suited me better-it's not a no for me.....
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 ooohh, so a good bedtime spray...that's disappointing for the price so maybe I will wait and check back later with you on your thoughts after you have used it more. Always love your reviews-thank you so much!!!
Cristalle was my signature ...I say was..because this new version for me could be a Chance Flanker...it doesn´t have the Cristalle character and for me it doesn´t have the "grandeur" from chanel DNA...everything is becoming chancey way...
I like watching your reviews, never smelled the original Cristalle. Sorry the biographical concept is lost. Maybe it would have been better to make a new flanker instead of erasing history. Last time you recommended me to start with Cristalle because I told you I lost my Chanel perfume taste. Haven’t muy in years. What would you recommend me now?
Lost your Chanel perfume taste? You mean you have become anosmic to any and all of their perfume smells or you just do not like their perfumes anymore?
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 I don’t feel attracted to them anymore(Chanel). I just like the smell of Chanel No. 5 on my mom, that’s her signature scent. I haven’t buy Chanel in years I went on other perfume direction to say something. I enjoy perfume and I would like to get a Chanel perfume again but I’m feeling a little lost.
In my opinion it has become more of a body mist now than an actual perfume… but it is what it is. At least its still in production for now, which is better than it not being in production at all. 💖💖💖
This has to edge towards Eau Fraîche because it is their best seller and has surpassed Coco Mademoiselle. Chanel knows business. I feel like No. 19 is next😞
Just received my bottle today. I have to say that I'm highly disappointed! This does not in anyway smell like a Chanel fragrance. Would not recommend it. Doesn't even last 30 minutes on my skin. Sad
That is very interesting news Rich! Where did you get the intel from? I need to know more. And also… Dominic Ropion taking over in his place at Chanel allegedly? I mean… Chanel and Dior and LV all run after each other like needy siblings… so maybe Chanel saw Demachy swapped with Kurkdjian and thought they needed to swap their perfumeur too? Or maybe Olivier just wants to be more free and do perfumes the way he wants to do perfumes and doesn’t want to have his hands tied anymore by what allegedly appears to be quite strict Chanel rules and conservative creative decision making. Maybe? Allegedly…. Lol
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 my friend in Paris told me. It's just a rumour and he personally doesn't think it'll happen but it's interesting to think about. I agree with everything you say. Maybe he's sick of the conservative fragrances and glacial pace of releases
Hi Sylvia 🥰 I am wearing the Chanel 31 Rue Cambon Lipstick shade 1 Rouge beige, like squirrt Mac green and Chanel Baume Essentielle Lilas on the cupid bow and tip of lower lip. 💖
IFRA is definitely not an organization I like but I feel like this formula tweak with the new Cristalle edt was on Chanel alone. Seems like a tweak in order to try and boost sales… allegedly… good luck to Chanel… cuz now they might alienate their old customers and the new Cristalle edt might still not appeal to the younger folk either. Its a gamble they seem to be willing to play. Allegedly.
Ehmmm... I thought you're going to review Cristalle edp Well, i was taken by surprise with edt, as edt is NOT available in the UK (yet?). A curious thing happened yesterday afternoon. I came to test the new edp and expected to see the new bottle design as a tester in the shop. Can you imagine how confused I was when the SA told me, that the old rectangular bottle of edp is what they actually sent them to use as testers??!! I thought, ok, let's just try what they have. And I sprayed the tester of old design edp on my skin, thought, i'd just refresh my memories of it, as I had a bottle in 2020 and moved it on in 2021. To cut the long story short the tester in an old design (batch 5508) (fair to say the tester was freshly opened, no more than 3 mls used) and the new design bottle (I ended up buying last night) smell... identical. And at the same time NOT how I remembered my bottle from 2020!! It's very confusing, but it get even more confusing, because the difference is: the current is not as sweet/warm as the old one and the citrus opening is there now, and I can't remember it being there before. And yes, just how you mentioned it, that citrus is a bit unnatural. Well, go figure...
I was surprised as well to see that the edt is not available in the UK. Might have been discontinued in the UK for good. But I hope its just delayed instead of discontinued. I am still waiting to test the new edp of Cristalle. I need more time to dedicate just to the new edt and figure out all the nuances first before I move on to the next formula. But yes, the edt also feels like its the same perfume but at the same time different to the predecessor.
A niche perfumer (can't remember the name) told me that with the IFRA oak moss restrictions, you can make a good chypre but you can't make a great chypre. May be true.
Thats a good point.
Yet another beautiful conversation, thank you for the pleasure.
Thank you Alma 🥰💖🙏🏻

The “ash tray” note is what I like so much about Cristalle EDT & no. 19 EDT. It would sadden me for it to be more citrusy and less oak mossy.

Should have been named Cristalle L’Eau in regards of the changes to the formula.
I agree
Very interesting observation Dacob. Great video!
Thank you Stanley 💖
Thank you for your honest opinion Dacob!! I needed to hear it. They really do sound like two different fragrances. I can't wait to test it, when I go back to my Chanel boutique.
Thank you srooney 🙏🏻💖 we still recognize Cristalle edt in this new iteration but it foes feel more rounded off and less edgy now.
Thanks a lot for your brilliant review of Cristalle EDT 2023!
Perfection !!! You’re The best!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Haha Dacob detective! How can someone not love this guy🤗 Always providing best info. Thank you for everything you're doing.
Thanks Anna 🥹🙏🏻💖🌅
❤wonderfully helpful review.
Thank you 🙏🏻💖
Entertaining as always, Dacob. I’m going to give it a try. Thanks
Thank you Kim and I hope you enjoy Cristalle edt 🥰💖
Thank you so much for your video! I really appreciate your comment. Very helpful and interesting!
Thank you, Dacob! Love how you analyzed the Original Vs. New. Wonder how, where I can hunt the original.
Thank you Rosanna 🙏🏻💖 I still love the new version but for other reasons than why I love the OG.
Six bottles is a very good solid collection already haha. Well done Despina 😉💖
Where do you get the OG bottles
Why they changed the formula😢
Gutted they've reformulated this classic! ! I''m so relieved I still have 10 bottles of the original! Unfortunately for me people's taste in perfumes have gone bland and 'vanilla' and too sweet. Everything has gone bland its so sad!! I'm like you Dacob, I know my perfumes. My nose is very sensitive to these things. Yes I've had the same thing. If it ain't broke don't fix it or don't mess with perfection! ❤
Ten bottles! Respect! Thats a lifetime supply of Cristalle edt 🌅🌅🌅💖💖💖
@@essence-tiallydacob9611Thank you! I love it so much. I had to stock up! Lol I bought most of them on the cruise ships as they always had stock. I am heartbroken that they have reformulated this beauty. I'll try the new version one day.
So when did you buy those originals? Are they still available to by?
@@angelsky6869 I bought most of them on cruise ships. Rest I had online, last one was from Ebay. It looked genuine enough.
Maybe you should sample the Cristalle Eau Verte if you are more into citruses 😉💖💫
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 That’s exactly what I had in mind my love. I hear it’s so good and very fresh. Right up in my ally. 💕💕
Oh Olivier and his obsession with Citrus....😮
I love Cristalle EDT, there is nothing like it, and maybe now there never will be 😢 I know I will buy the newbie, so watch this space.
Definitely more floral and less chypre
awww dacob. so sorry. had a feeling they’d try to tame the ashtray note, and sad they did!! guess i’ll keep hunting for the older bottles!! glad I have one; I’m gonna make it last❤less character is sooooo disappointing. thank you for the review!!!!
Hi Dacob the new bottle EDP still smells the same. I gave worn this since it came out. Thanks for your brilliant review as ever! Xx
Wtf!
Thats the warm note or the warm facet I get from the perfume too. That warmth feel artificial to me, like a chemical touch…
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 I don’t like the synthetic after smell. So sad
It is sacrilege! A complete tragedy I am heartbroken about this.
I will say I did wear my cristalle at the office and you are sooooooo right, definitely not an office friendly perfume😂
Thank you for this update- saved me lots of money for this version of cristalle
Thank you mericmt. 🙏🏻🌅 og cristalle definitely not an office friendly perfume for today’s standards haha. The new version is rounded off… tamer…
The batch codes repeat every eight years or so. Not every ten years. I am glad you are liking the new bottled version.
It still has a smidge of ashtray but its more of a memory than an actual smell
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 I'm so sad...
Wonderful review-loved your lightbulb moment but I’m disappointed. Where do we go for our cold ashtray accord?
Thanks Jessi 🙏🏻💖 its hunting and stocking up time on the old bottles if we want that ashtray accord…
Amazing review as always thank you very much! Do you think the new version of edt is closer to the edp version now? Maybe more lively and happy like the edp version?
Thank you dear. The new edt is not closer to the edp. It is still the edt but now to my nose smells more like a body mist than an edt. 💖
thank you for the answer! 😌
It always was fresh air 😊
Thank you Claudia 🙏🏻🥰💖
Все течет, все меняется, и это тоже❤
Thankfully , I have a smaller vintage bottle that I can use.
I keep testing it and if ai overspray it it does stay longer on my skin or clothes but I do need to overspray. About ten to fifteen sprays.
I LOVE this newer 100ml bottle! Gorgeous review and thank you!!!
Thank you Jane 🥰🥰🙏🏻💖💖💖🌅🌅🌅
The bottles compared kinda reminds me of the comparison to the differences of the old Bois des Iles and Cuir de Russie bottles, you made a video of ages ago ☺
The new version feels less exciting for me, that the old version do..and as you say, the new one feels flat, it's fine, but I don't know if I need the new version..the same feeling I have with the new edp version.
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 That really truly makes me sad. The era of the glamours bottle is officially over 😐
Dacob have you tried the new edp ? And will you make a video about it ?
I have tried it 🥰 will make a video but not sure yet how soon.
Dacob, do you know if they reformulated the EDP of Cristalle as well ?
From what I have heard from my intel thus far, that would seem to be the case… apparently the edp has been reformulated as well but I have not smelled the new bottled version of the edp yet.
Dacob, have you noticed any “tweaks” with N•19 Poudre over the years? I have an older sample, and have been contemplating purchasing a full bottle.
Its become softer and less sharp than it originally used to be.
Yes, they were conceived in a time where external smells surrounding us were more intense than today.
What ingredients or ingredient order makes a perfume good quality?😮
Dacob, do you feel Chanel 19 might be next up for a reformulation?🤔
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 True 😕❤️
Though I'm excited to smell this one, I'm forever a Cristalle EDP girl.😁 Plus I still have a bottle of EDT from a couple of years ago. ...
Exactly, what is an " ashtray accord"?.
Did the old one have a smoky incense smell vs citrus?
No incense in the og version. The ashtray accord comes from a special blend of hyacinth, oakmoss and vetiver,
I grabbed the „old“ one … always. I‘ll miss the grumpyness. 😭
Just got another old bottle, thanks god.
So, they were lying to me when I asked them because of the reformulation. They sad: No reformulation. :(
Any update, I wonder... did it become closer to the old iteration after all these weeks?
Its still very short lived on my skin but it smells lovely for as long as it is on my skin. Feels to me like a body mist more than an edt at this point.
@essence-tiallydacob9611 thank you, but that is a little underwhelming:( considering the price and the light presence).
Luckily I still have the flat bottle from year 2010. I will use slowly
The flat bottle is the eau de parfum concentration though. Not the eau de toilette 😉💖
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 yes, that's the only version I have. Never tried the EDT. Wish you a good year of 2024 !
Not Chanel copy and pasting the ingredient list whilst changing the formula 😂
That list is not a full ingredient list of course. So a lot can be changed without them having to disclose it. 😉
The bottle is growing on me though. Its so sleek and cool
This isnt on the uk website!!!??🇬🇧🇬🇧 only edp in new bottle shape and verte edp.
The UK does not get all the EU releases anymore since you know what happened… ehm ehm…
No19 is the Galbanum perfume from Chanel. Not Cristalle. Cristalle is known for the Hyacinth.
As perfume lovers this is always our biggest concern.
Would you ever consider reviewing Chanel Allure EDP (1999 - Amber Vanilla)?
Those were the days
Yep :) @@essence-tiallydacob9611
I was modernized, it has nothing to do with IFRA. The oak moss restrictions occurred years ago.
And in fact, it was reformulated years ago. This new bottled version is not the first reformulation of Cristalle by a long shot. Allegedly. 😉
Well i am glad i went with the no 5 edt now
One can never go wrong with No5 edt 🥰🥰🥰
The order of ingredients is the same but the quantity or dosage is different. It s a pity but it s like that
Plus they don’t need to list all ingredients by law… so they can change a lot without us knowing it… so its up to our noses to sniff out the differences.
Eau Verte received a new concentration, not just a new formulation.
It's a clean ashtray smell?
like the vape version of an ashtray accord....but I wouldn't mind as I reached for the older Cristalle the other day but because of what I was wearing and the mood I was in, I was not feeling it and maybe this new lighter version would have suited me better-it's not a no for me.....
Its lie a body mist version of Cristalle edt…
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 ooohh, so a good bedtime spray...that's disappointing for the price so maybe I will wait and check back later with you on your thoughts after you have used it more. Always love your reviews-thank you so much!!!

Cristalle was my signature ...I say was..because this new version for me could be a Chance Flanker...it doesn´t have the Cristalle character and for me it doesn´t have the "grandeur" from chanel DNA...everything is becoming chancey way...
Its become like a body mist in my opinion.
Chanel is cutting too many corners
It would seem as though they are allegedly also cutting down the assort, ent quantity offers in order to become more desirable… allegedly…
So sad that even the best of perfumes have to be destroyed by reformulations and decreased quality.
I don’t really love fresh ish scents.
I have my preferences… some are not my cup of tea either while others are delightful. 🥰💖
So sad. To people please seams exactly what Cristalle was NOT about.
19 is next😞
I thought Chance eau tendre was their best selling Chance flanker…
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 Yes correct. TBH I forgot to specify but to my nose they all smell the same.
It has Less chypre... Bad news
Its become more warm and streamlined. Less edgy.
Just received my bottle today. I have to say that I'm highly disappointed! This does not in anyway smell like a Chanel fragrance. Would not recommend it. Doesn't even last 30 minutes on my skin. Sad
It feels to me like its become more of a skin mist now instead of an edt…
Yes, you're right. I did like it better after wearing it in a huge spray quantity today. Too bad it's not stronger.
Rumour going around that Olivier polge is leaving Chanel
@RichMitch
Perhaps O.P.'s departure might be a positive.🤷♀️
Rumor has it that Dominic Ropion and Chanel are having talks.
Noooo! He’s been so great at Chanel IMO. This would only be acceptable if it frees him up to do a fragrance for Frederic Malle. 😊
Hey beautiful whats on your lips?
Hi Sylvia 🥰 I am wearing the Chanel 31 Rue Cambon Lipstick shade 1 Rouge beige, like squirrt Mac green and Chanel Baume Essentielle Lilas on the cupid bow and tip of lower lip. 💖
I sprayed that thing 5-6 hits and it lasted 5 minutes on my skin .. trash 🗑️
I agree, no lasting power at all. What a shame.
It lasts on me when I give it ten to fifteen sprays. Lol
Truly disgusting that they have to do this to our favorite fragrances. IFRA needs to stay out of our business.
I totally agree! They are ruining the classics!
Omg the emojis look sooooo cute in the comments 🥹🥹🥹😭😭😭💖💖💖💖
