    A nice and very useful comparison (especially the scatter diagram). The Mercury7's shimmer can be set to be VERY subtle using the secondary function at the Mix control. I've tried all three of those pedals, and by far the best shimmer is the GFI Specular Reverb V3, which has a very subtle blooming shimmer reverb over their base reverb. I like the Mercury7 very much, when used with synths.

    All are superb reverbs, but have to say that the best shimmer sound here is Neunaber by a long way. The other two sound like reverb with something added on top, the Seraphim is just a singular beautiful sound. As someone else mentioned, GFI Specular is another contender.

    Just wanna say nice demo but definitely would have gotten better shimmer with Merc 7 if you just turned the pitch vector mix down a little (alt + mix). It yields a much better shimmer that way. Even as a merc 7 owner, that nunaber sounds heavenly

    They all sound great. I have a slight preference for the Neunaber but it doesn’t stop me from wanting all of them!!

    Neunaber for the Win here. Sounds Great. I use a Big Sky, and it blows-my-mind . . . everytime. I also like the little MXR ( very underrated ). They all sound really fantastic though. Nice comparison.

      yes, the MXR one. I'd say it's the second best, next to the neunaber ones.

    Just listening to this comparison, all three of these units can float you to the heavens. I own and have worked extensively with numerous spring reverbs, a Binson tape delay, a 1st generation Boss Digital Delay, and have been eagerly investigating video demos of the recent reverb & delay ambient effects pedal offerings. Though all three of these units have produced lovely sounds, the one which I think would be most useful to me would be the Meris/Mercury 7. It seems to best articulate the individual notes, just to my ears with this video. It's response to my playing touch would be equally important to me, but I suspect the Mercury 7 would have a nice touch response to one's playing as well. A lot of effects can be dazzling to first hear, or to first play with, but can lose their appeal after playing through them for a while. But some less so than others. It's those that I try to seek out.

    Mercury7 shimmer is totally different from what I've heard so far. It has a unique glassy high-end tone, works very nice after "normal" Strymon NightSky reverb or something like that. Especially on synths.

    okay i see. the mercury doesnt have as much head room as the other pedals. neunaber is fantastic at that. but between the big sky and blue sky, the big sky has more *air* to it.

      For U2 delay you use what Edge used, a Korg. They made a pedal for a while recently (2014) SDD3000 or whatever and it nailed his sound.

    • @javiceres
      @javiceres 4 года назад +2

      @@teriakamoto He's used a lot of units, these days he uses Axe Fx a lot for FX. Initially the shimmer fx were created by Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois with EMS (AMS? can't recall ...)and Lexicon units inserted in the fx busses of the mixing console (which played a large role too)

    • @the5chord
      @the5chord 4 года назад +1

      teriakamoto the sdd3000 is his delay sound. Not the shimmer sound. I don’t know how he did it but to me the Eventide Shimmer patch was close. The Neunaber sound really nice here. My favorite of the three although maybe not Edge style shimmer.

    Great, great job! Just the demo I needed. I have the Mercury 7; do you think the Neunaber is different enough from the Mercury to purchase that as well? I find the Mercury sounds good, but easily overwhelms the guitar, and I dislike the sound of its shimmer and the complexity of all the alt-functions.

    I think the nenuaber has the nicest sounding algo, HOWEVER I feel like the original dry tone is better preserved in the blue sky, and this is huge for me. Because of that I think the nenauber has the nicest shimmer but not necessarily the best tone.
